The woman who wrote the definitive book on the Rape of Nanking, Iris Chang, after immersing herself in the horror of it actually ended up killing herself. It's horrible.

Yeah, I heard about that. I never heard of this massacre. I was browsing thru Barnes & Noble bookstore & came upon her book by accident. Interestingly the Japanese denied this ever happened. I'm beginning to notice alot of denial in the telling of history. I thought the holocaust deniers were the only ones . Turkey denies the massacre of the Kurdish. Any African American massacre on American soil was hidden for years. Come to find out there were plenty of them. None taught in school.

Another theory was that Japanese viewed China in world war 2 as a nomadic Manchurian since Qing Dynasty subjugated Han Chinese which Japan views them to inherit Hua and Tang culture that influenced ancient Japanese and Korean cultures. It, somehow, feels wrong to “like” this video. However, I will do so only for the algorithm. And for the light you shown upon it.
The book, The Rape of Nanking, researched, written and published under the shepherding of Iris Chang had such an impact upon me, I gave copies to anyone I could interest in the subject. Sadly, and sadly, not surprisingly, Chang received a huge volume of hate mail, most likely from Japanese ultranationalists; additionally, she found threatening notes on her car and as time went by, she began to believe that her phone was tapped. Her mother said the book "made Iris sad". Suffering from depression, Chang was diagnosed with brief reactive psychosis in August 2004. She began taking medications to stabilize her mood. Tragically, with all the turmoil resulting from what she uncovered, what she saw and heard from survivors was too much and Chang committed suicide on November 9, 2004

I lived in China in 1997. I visited Nanjing and went to the memorial where they have photographs and some film footage that had been captured from the Japanese. It was one the most evil and barbaric things I have ever seen. Unspeakable things were done to people.

Interestingly the soldiers of the Division who carried out the Nanking atrocities came from Hiroshima. In 1942 the best troops of that divisions were sent to invade the Australian colony of Papua New Guinea, where 90% of them died in the first defeat of Japanese troops in WWII.

You've done a previous video on this topic and still you get it wrong! It wasn't only the "women" of Nanking who were "executed", yet any single human being that the Japanese could get their hands on. You seriously need to read the book called - 'The Rape of Nanking' to fully understand how barbaric this occupation of China was by the Japanese. John Raab, a German living in the Internation Zone of Nanking documented many of these incidents. Japanese soldiers would break into the hospital in the International Zone and on just one occasion a soldier was found getting into the hospital bed of three young girls! Please, stop getting your information from the pages of Wikipedia and do the research yourself. You are spreading misinformation by not getting the story of what occurred during those most barbaric times correct. The book was written to attempt to understand just why the Japanese went on this killing spree, amongst other barbaric crimes, as their behaviour was without precedent. Soldiers stated that they never viewed the Chinese as human beings, but as nothing more than pigs. Yes, it was true that two Japanese soldiers held a competition to see who could kill the most Chinese and this was printed on the front pages of Japanese newspapers. A bit hard to deny with this publicity. There were many heroes, everyday civilians who had jobs in the Internation Zone from far away countries. Many fled, yet the brave stayed behind despite risking their lives to try and protect the innocent population of this city. Unfortunately, they were not as successful as they would have liked to be, but without these brave souls it would have been much worse than it was, if that was at all possible.🇦🇺

Relax and calm down. What you don't seem to get is that his speaking on the women addresses not only the murder of the women, but rather a word the channel presenter seems too squeamish or polite to actually say: *RAPE* is what he's talking about here. And while there was no limit to the depravity shown by the Japanese in this incident, they still largely confined their sexual brutality to women and girls. Even infants. That's the point of focusing on the women victims of Nanking. Though admittedly it would be a lot clearer if the presenter would simply call it what it was, rape. Vague words like "attacked" and "violated" etc. are ambiguous enough in meaning that one could possibly watch this entire video and not realize that the women were savagely raped by the Japanese before being murdered.
Maybe I'm being too hard on the channel presenter here. Could the simple use of the word _rape_ in the video -- no matter that it's entirely accurate and appropriate for the subject -- be enough to get a vid demonitized? If so that's about the stupidest and most ridiculous thing I've heard all week. The incident is called "the RAPE of Nanking" for a reason. It was probably the single largest collective sex crime in the history of the human race.
One fascinating fact about this incident is that one of the great heroes of Nanking was a no-kidding goose-stepping, swastika-wearing German Nazi official who saved over a thousand Chinese innocents from an unspeakable end. The Japanese down to the lowliest private knew that Nazi Germany was a great ally of Japan and a fellow combatant against the Americans and other Allied nations. Because of this, the Japanese were extremely deferential to the Nazis in face to face confrontations and nobody was going to butt heads with an officer-class soldier and diplomat of Japan's greatest ally in the war. Numerous times he single handedly --- and unarmed -- faced down any number of Japanese who sought to enter his compound and attack the Chinese sheltering there. He did this at great personal risk, given that all it would have taken would be a single annoyed Japanese soldier to shoot him or bayonet him just to get him to shut up and get out of the way. This Nazi -- I forget his name but the narrator actually names him in this video without offering much of a description of the good he did -- goose-stepped and heil-Hitler'ed his ass off in every standoff with the Japanese and the German prevailed every single time. There were others who were foreign to China, mostly consular officials of one nation or another, who also managed to shelter Chinese but I don't know that any of them was as successful as this Nazi hero. I say you take your heroes wherever you find them, and this is one Nazi who ought to have a giant statue of him erected in the center of modern Nanking. He earned it. He was a hero by anybody's measure.

You're talking about things that were perpetrated 80+ years ago by people who are long dead. Unless you believe the sins of the father should be punished in multiple subsequent generations then your idea makes no sense and shows how naive to actual history you are. The modern nation of Japan is a completely different nation after a long and painful self-examination and rebuilding process. If you're that prone to holding nearly century old grudges you should keep in mind that Mao killed more Chinese than the Japanese did. Should we do business with China then? Should China do business with itself? Think about it.

What happened is in the past is loooong in the past. Those people guilty are dead and gone. Watching these videos keeps the crimes alive and fresh and causes anger towards the Japanese today thus it is never laid to rest and animosity continues.
This is also what is happening in China today. The Chinese people are fed hate towards today's Japanese through a conveyor built of movies. And the hate is still palpable.

The very sad irony here is that the Japanese soldiers killed civilians and targeted women, their brutality may have led to the US responding with nuclear option which did exactly what the Japanese did and that's killing civilians. The only difference is that the US did it on a much larger scale.

They were more barbaric , later also these things happened ..even right now china is the most hated country in the world right... I personally think it has something to do with Chinese people as a whole...
