    I have the 2023 on order for April and I’m excited about the landing profile of the 4 blade prop. I never got used to the 3 blade fat composite prop of my Athena Turbo G6, and 700 hours later I finally figured how to do it right. Yet looking forward to more predictable landings more similar to my older Miss Grace. Thanks for the video.

    Al, Sarah Thank you! Great job! Tons of info, best explanation I've heard as to why the SR22T benefits from a 4-bladed prop! Particularly liked it that you showed numbers and were flying! Nice job shooting it with only an iPhone too! Thank you again!

      Awesome! Thanks so much for the kind words, glad you really enjoyed it. One of the things that I feel like this will do is make landings way more predictable in the SR22T. Its a great improvement - thats the fact that I feel will really shine with this propeller over the years to come!

    @Al - at the 5:25 mark, Sarah's headset is seen in the background. How did she "engrave" or label her headset with her name? I'm trying to find a aesthetically, classy way to put my name on my Bose headset. Using a run-of-the-mill label maker just doesn't cut it...
    Thanks

      Going into the flight I was thinking it would be all looks. After I had my first flight I felt 3-4 things that were super different in performance that are meaningful to my flying. The approach and landing characteristics being one of my favorite. It’s awesome.

    What is the advantage of 4 blades vs 2 or 3? Could we have 6 blades?

    • @al.waterloo
      @al.waterloo  4 роки тому +1

      Different drag profiles and enabling performance variables! We often think the more props the more speed, but that's not always the case. I don't think we'll see an SR22T with 6 blades. I know there are some heavy transport turbo props out there with 6 blades!

    • @al.waterloo

      The different propellers will give different performances. Some have lower drag profiles and some have higher performance at higher altitudes. This case is where you really feel the difference between the 4 and 3 blade props. It is awesome. You can really nail your landings.

    So does a 4 blade prop vs. the 3 blade prop effect performance at all, such as top speed, acceleration, climb rate or fuel economy? I’m getting ready to order a new Cirrus SR22T very soon and am going to get one fully loaded with every option available on it. The prop was the only option that I was unsure about because I didn’t know the advantages and disadvantages of a 4 blade prop vs. a 3 blade prop.
    I am going to be a new pilot by the way so if my questions seem like I’m a total uneducated noob, that’s because I am!

    • @al.waterloo
      @al.waterloo  2 роки тому +1

      The prop is awesome. I have a few hundred hours in it now. Two biggest things I have felt, is that it has a better fatigue profile on the pilot. It feels smoother and quieter so on longer flights you aren’t as worn out. The landing performance is awesome. You can really float your landing a lot more which makes your landings a lot more predictable.

      @@al.waterloo, thank you for responding and thank you for the info. Is there any difference in the planes performance between the 2 props concerning top speed, acceleration, rate of climb or fuel economy? It sounds like the 4 blade prop is the way to go though with the benefits that you described.

      They both are strong and have totally different feels around them! I love them both. I can see needing a 3 blade prop if you fly into a busy airport. I can also see someone wanting to have a more forgiving instrument approach profile going with the 4 blade prop!

  • @danfeige7971
    @danfeige7971 2 роки тому

    The four blade dimensions looks similar to SR20 three blade dimensions. My experience in SR20 with thin blades is speed(energy management) on approach is more critical to accuracy vs SR22 3 blade that really does have a more effective air brake and power curve to manage energy when landing.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. You mentioned several subjective differences in your video. Just wanted to know if you could elaborate a bit more on performance differences between the two props? i.e. What about climb performance? Airspeed/cruise differences at various altitudes? Fuel burn? Prop maintenance?

    • @al.waterloo
      @al.waterloo  4 роки тому +2

      Great questions. The performance is mostly the same for climb and cruise. Fuel burn is identical as it is the same Continental IO-550K engine. Both props have a very different feel from one another around them. I’ll get a little more experience with the 4 blade and can get some detailed specifics. I am sure there are some, but on a short flight wasn’t able to experience them all. I will have to look into the Maintenance question. I don’t know that specific piece yet as it is so new. That’s a great question.

    wouldn't the manufacturer try all types of blades to determine which gives the best performance?

    • @al.waterloo
      @al.waterloo  4 роки тому

      Definitely! Owners can choose which performance level is right for them. It’s great to have options. Although the propellers preform similar speed wise they have completely different ways they feel. I can totally see where depending on my type of flying where I would prefer one over the other.

  • @speedomars
    @speedomars 4 роки тому +1

    The blades are thin. The fat 3-blade Hartzel composite looks meaner and from experience, provides a needed airbrake on descent and on approach. Not sure why you want more quiet, the Cirrus is the quietest GA plane flying.

    • @al.waterloo
      @al.waterloo  4 роки тому

      You are right! The thin blades will provide a different feel compared to the fat 3 blades. It’s awesome that one can now choose which feel will be the best for their flying. Things can also be a little quieter! The Cirrus is very quiet as it is, but when its a bit quieter it reduces fatigue...I just even bought a new coffee grinder because it was just a bit quieter!

    • @speedomars
      @speedomars 4 роки тому

      @@al.waterloo Agreed the new prop is a nice addition, but it is an option and costs more. So the subjective element of quiet etc has to be judged by the buyer. Anyway, I use Bose ANRs and the plane could not be quieter...in fact, I keep one ear uncovered when starting the plane so I can judge how the engine sounds when it fires up. There is no problem hearing a spoken voice with the headsets off in the Cirrus.

    I appreciate your channel. I am a huge Cirrus fan. I will only learn in a Cirrus plane and I will only fly a Cirrus plane. I am transitioning down to Florida and once settled, I wish to focus and study full time for my pilot certificate and then on to an IFR rating, back to back. I’m a slow learner and it would be best if I were to take six months or longer, to achieve my goal of becoming a part of the aviation community. I hope to incorporate my love for ministry and flying together. I’m also looking for some sponsorship for the cost of flight school, so we’ll see how far that gets me... I’m very interested in driving out to where you are in Tennessee and check out the Cirrus factory/showroom and taking everything in, not to mention recording a nice flight vlog. Keep the vids coming, because I get very encouraged by all those whom I follow on UA-cam. I’m a big fan of the four blades rather than three, just from a performance point of view. Pease...
