Christmas day ride through the wonderful Trough of Bowland. A rite of passage for any Lancastrian cyclist. The climb starts at Sykes Farm about 1.5miles from Dunsop Bridge.
Ha ha, I gave up alcohol in the summer. Being stone cold sober meant I was as fresh as a daisy Xmas morning so made the most of the traffic free roads.
***** I was disappointed I had to stop twice to get up this - not pushing just stop for 30 secs on those steep bits - any tips for next time. I had just come over Waddington but thats nowt for you I imagine. I'm going to try for the TDF stage 1 from last year and worried about Buttertubs half way through is it any was as bad as the Trough - I don't want to stop going up that - though I'll have to stop somewhere as its going to be 8 hours + in the saddle for me. How old are you anyway - just watched you flying past everyone on Hardknott. Thanks
***** Thanks I'm not sure I have a gear thats comfortable to spin - even if it is a compact, maybe need more miles in the legs - what about Buttertubs? a bit easier I'm good on long steady climbs like Waddington and this was OK except for those nasty bits in the last 0.5k.....
I did it on a bike, on a moped and driven over the trough in a car, but that did look painful on a cold wet day in december!...
Was that speeded up or is that the lunatic pace you climb at!?!
Now looking forward to your vid of Harlech.
great vid, love this climb, prefer Sykes side climb to t'other.
Climbing on Christmas day? That's some dedication!!

Take it staedy at the bottom, the climb gets harder as you go higher up. Asyou pass the farm, get into a gear that's comfortable to spin.
