Some of the more extreme countries and citys from no reservation or parts unknown would be amazing for embrace the globe. If they dont attract visits watch them anyway, your life will be improved by it.

Anthony Bourdain is awesome, sort of a culinary Jack Kerouac, it's very rare a celebrity death genuinely effects me but I was very sad to hear of his passing, it's heart-breaking the way he went RIP. I can't stand Gordon Ramsay he's just not my cup of tea, once you get bored of his swearing you realise he hasn't got much more to offer. Travel Man is a stunning show though, it has a new presenter now who's still good but the Moss ones are pure TV gold, so funny, and he had a a few US A-listers in there too, Travel Man started out as a show called Gadget Man, and simply changed from gadgets to travel as it's topic after 4 series, the first presenter was Stephen Fry then Richard took over from series 2. Keith Floyd was one of my favourite travelling chefs from the UK, he was a riot, he died 14 years ago though and maybe his shows won't haven't aged well, but he was hilarious!
Loved it guys. Big Anthony fan, his food travels are amazing. Much missed. This is partly Glasgow as described through the past. Yes it’s a no frills city in the centre but it has beautiful areas for shopping and parks galiore, lovely old buildings. All placed on the River Clyde. Sure we have poor areas like any other. We shouldn’t have we have huge resources all eaten up by the ukgovt not fairly shared. We love a night out. It’s not as wild as you saw, we can go to gigs, theatres have a good night and never see a fight. I’m old and NEVER witnessed one! We love live music and almost every bar is a small venue for live acts, all genres. I’ve NEVER been hurt by ANYONE on the streets, you are safe! People will help you any time day or night for directions or just a wee chat. It’s just great.
The bird in question was grouse. Not a particularly challenging flavour, but you do have to spit the lead shot out, though. That makes it a bit of a no-no in my opinion.
My Dad is a Head Gamekeeper for several Estates on the West Coast of Scotland and Climbing mountains and coming back down with Deer on yer back is Not Easy.... They are all built different and most dont have Ponies or half tracks. Also... Venison is the Best!! Grouse is okay... Just not enough eating in it for me Lol
i live on the east coast just above edinburgh and close to the home of the small white ball clubbers,,,,, i can say that i have and have had many glasweigian freinds and i would say its a very visitable place with great beauty and interest close by,,, the glasweigians generally are nutters,,, and respected throughout the UK for their toughness their comedy is best shown in the series still game which personally i find to be in the premiership of british comedy series and watched by teenagers to geriatrics which is rare if you do come you will need to say pish a lot and ya wee basss,,,,, you will not be murdered then,,,,
Chips, cheese and curry is amazing and if you want a little bit more spice then drizzle some sweet chilli on top it’s a game changer. I owned a burger van and now run a cafe and it’s one of the best sellers. Also chips,cheese & gravy or chips cheese & beans too.

You should check out Janey Godley who he was chatting to because she did voice overs of Scotlands leader Nicola Sturgeon during the pandemic daily press briefings. They were so hilarious but the best thing was that other world leaders would see these and they thought that this was actually Nicola Sturgeon speaking. A few said they totally admired her but thought it was unusual for a leader to swear so much during press conferences.

This was a great Rabbit hole to go down and you may as well stick to his British isles to complete a non biased review and to help Spencer with some pointers food and location wise. Bourdain was great to watch and always open to the cultures he was visiting. I live in Wales so would be cool if you could watch when he visited 👍

I`m a Scot, my cousin has spent all his life working as a gamekeeper/ghillie/stalker. Blooding someone is something that happens among the posh boys. My late wife was German and I`ve been privileged to been hunting for deer ducks and wild boar there. Thankfully we never got a wild pig when I was there as it was gonna be put through a mincer and eaten while it was still warm on rye bread with mustard and onion. No joke 😅😅
When I was a kid your mother would stand over you and tell you to fight some kid who'd hit you. If they were losing and their mother tried to pass over a stick or half brick, the mothers would start fighting. Now the mother's don't know were the kids are and the little swine are more likely to stab someone or set fire to their house. Edited to add: I'm not for or against Haggis. However, I've had Haggis the traditional way with neeps and tatties. I've had it as bon bons with a whiskey cream sauce. I've had it as pakora. I've had it in sausage form, sliced in rounds like black pudding in a fried breakfast. I've had it battered and fried as part of a chip supper. It's just a spiced minced meat product.

The Old College Bar was knocked down a few years ago. It was a pub for hard drinkers. The building is certainly not 16th century. More like 19th century. There are a few pubs in Glasgow which claim to be the oldest. Life expectancy in Glasgow is not 55. Only tourists eat fried Mars Bars 😂 This guy is a foodie and he’s eating Haggis at a chippy? No. It was interesting that when visiting Glasgow, he only looked at one aspect of an old lower working class city. There is a lot more to Glasgow than that. And from one extreme, he went to another in the Highlands where he only looked at rich i foreigners who buy ‘sporting’ estates. Altogether a very cliched and lazy documentary which tells you nothing about our people and how the majority of us live and eat. Don’t think I’ll be watching any more of this guy’s programmes.
Blood on the face is supposedly an ancient ritual for a hunters first successful shot. I don’t think the whole face needs to be covered though. When it comes to haggis, it’s best not to overthink it. Whether it’s deep fried with curry, or served individually with a whisky sauce, or even as part of a full Scottish breakfast, it’s delicious. The greasy deep fried food is awesome, but for visitors, just be careful not to gorge yourself on it. Being a native, we can eat ridiculous amounts of ‘unhealthy’ food because we are used to it, but even we can feel unsettled if we overdo it.

That was brilliant, I might be a wee bit biased though being a born and bred Glaswegian. Glez-ga as we say it is a no nonsense, don't fuck about city for sure and once had the heinous distinction of being the murder Capital of Europe. But if you come in friendship and don't be a dick then you'll be hard pushed to find no friendlier people on God's green earth. The University cafe on Byres road in Partick in the West End is outta this world foodwise, if you visit Spencer this is a must. As for the Haggis that most of you Yanks are afraid of its just like a spiced ground beef and as Mr.Bourdain told you it's delicious, even the deep fried one.👌 The hunting lodge part is for the wealthy, you'll not find many locals frequenting it unless they're employees. The Highlands are breathtakingly beautiful and great for an overnight stay or weekend but they're more catered for the tourists judging by their exorbitant costs for most things that no self respecting Glaswegian would contemplate paying. It usually for the hoi polloi of Edinburgh and Glasgow's more affluent punters or the London businessmen who think it's reasonable compared to prices in the Capital. So don't get suckered in when they here your accent.😂

That is true, however it's not true for tourists or outsiders. I was born in Linthouse and left Glasgow as a kid and moved to England. I came back when I was 21 or so and me now having an English accent has gotten me out of a lot of tough situations, where I ended up in a dodgy scheme or whatever late at night or in the early morning. One example I've had Neds ask me who I was when in a scheme at 3am or so after leaving a chicks house and when speaking to me, they have told me to leave the area as it's not safe and them tell me how to get to the PRW for a nightbus and tell me they were glad I wasn't from the area, as they were looking for other people. Glaswegians always want to help or show a good side of the city to tourists, even if the neds can be utterly mental in schemes etc. I have used my accent to my advantage so many times since I have been back, as the people don't know I am Scottish when they meet me in these situations and I have played dumb and rolled with it to my advantage. People thinking everyone is against the English in Glasgow is wrong, more often than not they want to show the city in a good way. Im sure this is why Bourdain would have been treated well
The thing with haggis, is that it’s actually just like meatloaf that is quite heavily seasoned with white/black pepper, ground coriander and mace (maybe a few more spices too) and the meat is bulked out with oats. Unless you are the one cooking it (or sitting close to the one addressing it at a Burns Supper), you are unlikely to see the haggis in its bung (the casing whether natural-sheep’s stomach or synthetic). You’ll just get a plate with a serving of haggis, mashed potatoes and mashed turnip (swede/rutabaga), with some whisky sauce. But if the idea of eating offal really creeps you out, try the vegetarian haggis. It’ll give you an idea of the flavour profile and if you like it, you can go that step further the next time…but there is always haggis bon bons or pakora or samosas etc etc and you will likely encounter a full Scottish that has haggis as one of the components. Essentially, haggis can be treated as ingredient replacement for minced (ground) beef or lamb, in just about any recipe. You will however have access to some of the freshest seafood going whilst in Scotland and if/when you’re there you need to try Cullen Skink which is about as close to a chowder as you’ll find in the UK. You also have to try and visit places outside of the general tourist destinations, like head ‘doon the watter’ to the Firth of Clyde, where the scenery will just take your breath away (I know this as I grew up on the Firth of Clyde and ever couple of months when I go home to visit my Dad, I still find it unbelievable how beautiful it is). Maybe head down to Largs and get some ice-cream at Nardini’s and visit the Viking Centre and if you go from Glasgow to Largs, you will most likely go through a town called Greenock which is where James Watt was born (the man who developed the steam powered engine to a level that enabled the Industrial Revolution). Or if you head down the north shore of the Clyde you can visit Helensburgh where Charles Rennie MacKintosh (Architect and Interior Designer) lived and John Logie Baird (inventor of the TV) was born. Or head further along to Dunoon, where the US had a Naval Base in the middle of the Holy Loch until 1992…and quite recently my brother and I had the most amazing vegan apple pie flavoured ice-cream.

If history is anything to go by then independence in the western world is more often than not a great thing , especially a nation like Scotland that has so many resources and a long history of inventions , breakthroughs and engineering accomplishments . It seems independence in Scotland is looked upon as some sort of massive gamble on a outside chance , an anti English ideal or a sectarian view of a flag when in fact it's a country looking for a chance to control its direction of travel .
May I humbly recommend Gordon Ramsay, Gino and Fred Road Trip. Two chefs and one maitre'd OR a Scotsman, an Italian and a Frenchman let loose on the world's culinary heritage. From haggis to Mexican chillies to reindeer to ice-swimming to Cajun to camel stew. A funny ride with lots of alcohol and a touch American THC infused food :o)

I'm not for or against Haggis. However, I've had Haggis the traditional way with neeps and tatties. I've had it as bon bons with a whiskey cream sauce. I've had it as pakora. I've had it in sausage form, sliced in rounds like black pudding in a fried breakfast. I've had it battered and fried as part of a chip supper. It's just a spiced minced meat product.

When it comes to haggis, it’s best not to overthink it. Whether it’s deep fried with curry, or served individually with a whisky sauce, or even as part of a full Scottish breakfast, it’s delicious.
The greasy deep fried food is awesome, but for visitors, just be careful not to gorge yourself on it. Being a native, we can eat ridiculous amounts of ‘unhealthy’ food because we are used to it, but even we can feel unsettled if we overdo it.

That was brilliant, I might be a wee bit biased though being a born and bred Glaswegian. Glez-ga as we say it is a no nonsense, don't fuck about city for sure and once had the heinous distinction of being the murder Capital of Europe. But if you come in friendship and don't be a dick then you'll be hard pushed to find no friendlier people on God's green earth. The University cafe on Byres road in Partick in the West End is outta this world foodwise, if you visit Spencer this is a must. As for the Haggis that most of you Yanks are afraid of its just like a spiced ground beef and as Mr.Bourdain told you it's delicious, even the deep fried one.👌
The hunting lodge part is for the wealthy, you'll not find many locals frequenting it unless they're employees. The Highlands are breathtakingly beautiful and great for an overnight stay or weekend but they're more catered for the tourists judging by their exorbitant costs for most things that no self respecting Glaswegian would contemplate paying. It usually for the hoi polloi of Edinburgh and Glasgow's more affluent punters or the London businessmen who think it's reasonable compared to prices in the Capital. So don't get suckered in when they here your accent.😂

That is true, however it's not true for tourists or outsiders. I was born in Linthouse and left Glasgow as a kid and moved to England. I came back when I was 21 or so and me now having an English accent has gotten me out of a lot of tough situations, where I ended up in a dodgy scheme or whatever late at night or in the early morning. One example I've had Neds ask me who I was when in a scheme at 3am or so after leaving a chicks house and when speaking to me, they have told me to leave the area as it's not safe and them tell me how to get to the PRW for a nightbus and tell me they were glad I wasn't from the area, as they were looking for other people.
Glaswegians always want to help or show a good side of the city to tourists, even if the neds can be utterly mental in schemes etc. I have used my accent to my advantage so many times since I have been back, as the people don't know I am Scottish when they meet me in these situations and I have played dumb and rolled with it to my advantage. People thinking everyone is against the English in Glasgow is wrong, more often than not they want to show the city in a good way. Im sure this is why Bourdain would have been treated well

The thing with haggis, is that it’s actually just like meatloaf that is quite heavily seasoned with white/black pepper, ground coriander and mace (maybe a few more spices too) and the meat is bulked out with oats. Unless you are the one cooking it (or sitting close to the one addressing it at a Burns Supper), you are unlikely to see the haggis in its bung (the casing whether natural-sheep’s stomach or synthetic). You’ll just get a plate with a serving of haggis, mashed potatoes and mashed turnip (swede/rutabaga), with some whisky sauce. But if the idea of eating offal really creeps you out, try the vegetarian haggis. It’ll give you an idea of the flavour profile and if you like it, you can go that step further the next time…but there is always haggis bon bons or pakora or samosas etc etc and you will likely encounter a full Scottish that has haggis as one of the components. Essentially, haggis can be treated as ingredient replacement for minced (ground) beef or lamb, in just about any recipe.
You will however have access to some of the freshest seafood going whilst in Scotland and if/when you’re there you need to try Cullen Skink which is about as close to a chowder as you’ll find in the UK.
You also have to try and visit places outside of the general tourist destinations, like head ‘doon the watter’ to the Firth of Clyde, where the scenery will just take your breath away (I know this as I grew up on the Firth of Clyde and ever couple of months when I go home to visit my Dad, I still find it unbelievable how beautiful it is). Maybe head down to Largs and get some ice-cream at Nardini’s and visit the Viking Centre and if you go from Glasgow to Largs, you will most likely go through a town called Greenock which is where James Watt was born (the man who developed the steam powered engine to a level that enabled the Industrial Revolution). Or if you head down the north shore of the Clyde you can visit Helensburgh where Charles Rennie MacKintosh (Architect and Interior Designer) lived and John Logie Baird (inventor of the TV) was born. Or head further along to Dunoon, where the US had a Naval Base in the middle of the Holy Loch until 1992…and quite recently my brother and I had the most amazing vegan apple pie flavoured ice-cream.

it was back in the 70s and 80s life expectancy was shockingly low in the poorest areas of Glasgow, I remember the stats were published back then when there was a drive to improve the health of the most impoverished areas of Western Europe, sadly Glasgow topped most of the tables with heart attacks, strokes, lung disease, alcoholism. This resonated a lot at the time and perhaps stuck in the memory without researching how this has improved over the past 30 years.

If history is anything to go by then independence in the western world is more often than not a great thing , especially a nation like Scotland that has so many resources and a long history of inventions , breakthroughs and engineering accomplishments . It seems independence in Scotland is looked upon as some sort of massive gamble on a outside chance , an anti English ideal or a sectarian view of a flag when in fact it's a country looking for a chance to control its direction of travel .
