I'm still going to use the Breakout Extension. I appreciate you putting this together Sethi; it's not your fault Google dropped the ball on this.
@@kimcremer9910 it's the purple b, Breakout Rooms by Robert Hudek. You can be in all rooms at once. You can speak into all rooms at once or rotate one at a time. I would rather just make multiple meetings and do it that way than use the current embedded one.
Thanks for the tutorial. Tried it this week and it was fantastic! The 6th graders were so engaged and keep asking to do more breakouts. One thing to note, student who lose connection can not rejoin the main meet unless the teacher (anyone?) is there. Luckily we were sharing docs so they managed to communicate with me.
It depends on a couple of factors. #1, Google slowly pushes these updates out to their subscribers. It may take time before all members of your school's domain has access to it. #2, this feature is only available to Enterprise subscribers. Your school has to pay for the Enterprise set of Google Products, not just Google Suite for Education (which is more basic).
@@StebanHern Well, google needs consumers to have a reason to pay for Enterprise, they are a For-profit organization so they will do this type of stuff for money.

Audio is exclusive to each breakout room. I don't think there is a feature for you to give an announcement to all the rooms - you would have to pop in to each one. Shared screens and texting are also exclusive to each breakout room. You can have a student in each room present their screen, but no presenting to breakouts from the main meet. I have kids open whatever link they need to work on - google classroom assignment, website, timer screen, whatever, before I open the breakouts. If they are working on a common document, one student can share their screen and type for the group.
Hi, Breakout rooms are now part of Workspace for education Plus and Teaching and learning upgrade. You'll have to contact your admin to purchase access. It was free when first released as the pandemic was happening but now bundled.
This new feature is terrific! However, elementary students need to be monitored while in the breakout rooms. It would be great if the teacher can at least see all the students in the other rooms, and have different windows opened during the meeting. It would be even better if the teacher could hear the students in all the rooms. Sometimes, a teacher needs to listen to only one student during small groups or reading assessments. The breakout rooms are definitely helpful for those instances, but she has to still be available for the other little ones if needed.
This is the activities menu. You can find the whiteboard in here, and if enabled recording. For Workspace plus accounts you will also find breakout rooms, polls and q&a in this menu.
Hi - I followed your great tutorial on CASTING to a Google Meet for better video quality, but when I am in a Breakout Room, it casts to the main classroom. Is there a workaround for this?
I am able to set up the breakout rooms. My students can hear me in the main room and they can hear me when I join each of their breakout rooms separately, but I can not hear them, and the "broadcast to all breakout rooms and slider doesn't seem to make a difference. If I want to speak to all of them, I need to use my main room. I have toggled through everything I can think of. I finally turned on captions in each room. Yesterday, I was able to hear my groups, but not today. Could this be my dinosaur classroom computer? I also do keep losing connection. Ideas to try?
Have reached out to your admin. Make sure yoy are currently using the enterprise plan in workspace to have access to this. In the future this will become the teaching and learning upgrade for Google workapace for education. See my latest video.
I have not used Breakout Rooms before. Your tutorial was great. A question I have is, when the teacher clicks on "End Breakout Rooms", does he/she have the option to give the students a certain amount of "warning time" to let them know how much time they have left to finish their breakout room conversation before they will be sent back to the full classroom? Or does clicking "End Breakout Rooms" send them straight back to the full classroom? Thanks
At ths moment that is not possible. I join the same meeting multiple times using my account in separate windows, and join each room to monitor. Its not ideal but a workaround at the moment.
Can you share your screen for every breakout room? Example.... Students are to be discussing data. Can you share the data to each breakout room screen?
I have a cotaught classroom that I created. I added the other teacher as a "teacher" so that she can assist teachers while I am instructing. Is there a way for her to create breakout rooms on her own. I thought that she could do that since she was added as a teacher. When we originally created the room she could.
