Thanks for watching guys! If you want to see more of the "Search For Copper", make sure to leave a like on the video so I know! Oh and in case you're wondering...Copper = CU. Do with that information what you wish :D
I've been saving them for years. I have over 10,000 wheats and am searching for coppers now. I put mine in Gallon jugs and jars. Rolls in Louisiana where I am at are averaging about 11-12 percent copper. I have run into several new looking old ones recently. The strike on all the 1960's coins always seem to be stronger, except for the 1969. I like the way they look, too. Thanks for posting.
TNhillguy you must have every wheat penny ever minted by now! That's crazy. I generally get between 15 and 20 percent copper up in Michigan. We also get the Canadian pennies which are predominantly copper so that helps. Good luck and happy hunting!
Thanks, yes, it takes a lit of room and weight, but think about it, that's only $100.00 in wheats. I still find some here and there, but by and large just get the coppers. BTW.. the reason that there are so many more post WWII coins is that they were used in the war efforts. Many, many tens, twenties and thirties were used and melted into shells for WWII.
It's crazy funny to go back in time. I'm a fan and I'm talking to you from the future, there's still some pennies left behind and I'm still collecting copper and still watching your videos. Say hello to D. That's your future gal... 🤙🏼
It's good to see others finally saving copper pennies again. It seeem's about 4 or 5 years ago everyone was doing it and then once the price of copper declined everyone bailed out, don't people relize that as time does by whether other hoarders or the government itself taking in the coppers for their value they will become harder and harder to come by. Also, the price of copper is on it's way back up. Very nice job on the viden and I agree with you 100%!
Yes, loved the little Math lesson! Like you said if you did 3_4 boxes a day and look at the long term, wait until copper hits a high then sell your basically making free money. With just a few hours of effort getting, opening them, and the best seeing what you have in your rolls. SELL HIGH LOL Great lesson Thanks for sharing!
Romance for Relics and bottles I'm glad you liked it! One of the cool things about stacking copper is the fact that it's not just straight up labor. It's actually fun to do, especially if you're a numismatic minded kind of person because you can be looking for wheat pennies, errors, toned coins, and all of the above while you pull out the copper. So stacking the copper is pretty much just a little extra work added to the hobby you already enjoy!
Quin, I love the way your mind works. Let everyone think we are crazy, so we can cash in on the copper in 20 years. Can't wait for your next video, because you are one of my new favorite youtubers.
Coolcoinz2014 haha thank you so much! I thought the picture I used of the guy hoarding coins might accurately describe what other people think of copper hoarders today 😂
Went and got 2 boxes of pennies today. The ladies were helpful. I said i was hoping to catch a box of uncirculated 2018s. They went back and searched their stack and got me an unopened box of 2017s. Uncirculated! The whole box. I don't get the fun of searching for copper but I'm stashing that box for sale or search later.
I always set mine aside from getting change during my job. I've only picked up a couple of boxes of pennies in the past. I'll make sure to keep picking them up along with my dimes now. It will be awesome if we're able to turn these in a few years.
Sort of, deliver food and collect. I also get to look at the cash drawer at the end of the night. Tonight I pulled a 1951 Roosevelt, kinda made up for the slow night!
The Canadian cents went to 1996 and they were 98% copper from 1942 back they were 95%. I keep my coppers as well, i sort mine by 60s 70s and 80s, and an easy free way to store and stack them is the small flat rate boxes you can get for free from the USPO and then if you do want to sell them they are packed and ready to go lol. Cya man
superneo123 that's a good approach! I haven't really considered actually selling them any time soon. I was just kind of looking to stack them for the long run and see what the market does. Here's a question for you: do you throw your Canadian cents in with the American coppers or keep them separate? I was thinking that Canadian cents might become collectible since they were abolished a short time ago, but I could be wrong.
If you feel like it's useless now, just take a break for a while and see what the market does. When it gives you an incentive to start hoarding again, go for it! Just don't wait too long otherwise there might not be any pennies left!
hey quins coins I love your channel whenever I'm sad and angry I just watch you and I feel happy and kinda jealous but another thing is do you just go to the bank and ask for them or do they order them we'll anyways i like your videos . keep up the effort
I don't mean that there is a general strategy to turn your copper coins into cash. What I mean is that there will come a day when the price of copper is high enough that you could sell your copper coins to another individual that is looking to invest in copper. Of course, it's not always going to be that easy. There will be negotiating, but there is still room for a significant profit if you find the right buyer.
Do you look for any error coins or coins that have numismatic value? I am new to your channel so I am not sure what you hunt for. Thanks for sharing the video! Also, where do you sell copper pennies?
Jackie Spangler I don't generally look for errors just because that's such a huge time commitment. But when it comes to numismatics, I know my dates pretty well so I always keep an eye out for rare coins no matter the era. As for selling copper, I don't sell any now. I'm waiting for the price to rise, and to be fair I don't think there is much of a market for selling it due to the fact that it is currently illegal to melt down copper pennies. Hope this helps!
Quin's Coins thank you for your reply. I was wondering about you selling coins for the copper value because it is illegal to melt down coins. Lol! The only reason I could see someone buying copper pennies is for the numismatic value. I was confused! Thanks for the video and reply. Take care.
Jackie Spangler no problem! My brother Kevin has actually been going through all of his hoarded copper cents looking for errors recently. After just a few minutes, he found a nice 1960-D with a filled 9. Pretty cool! But I'll leave the error hunting to him :D happy hunting!
Brett Bowcutt I did! I have a video coming out later today that will update everyone on the progress of the giveaway so be sure to check it out. I'm still working on getting back to everyone, but I certainly haven't forgotten!
I've been collecting stamps just as long as coins. I've got sheets, pages, my collection goes from the 1860's to the 1950's you can learn history collecting stamps. Way better than you will learn in high school.
__ben__davis___ I haven't worked out a place to sell yet, but I imagine that as copper becomes more desirable, you will see more and more places to sell.
what years were the pennies minted with 95% copper? also do a couple more boxes of pennies, I just think that you are doing something that benefits a lot of people. gives something to do and also helps me know what pennies I might want to keep
1982 is when they switched to a copper plated zinc so pennies prior to that are copper (except 1943, they are steel)- also there are some great books out there such as 'Cherry pickers' guide that have info on rare varieties to search for! GL
1971-1974 Ike dollars are only 40% silver if they have the "S" mint mark. Any P(no mint mark) or D is clad. There also were 40% silver 1976 Bicentennials also "S" mint mark
From 1971-1974 there was a 40% silver Uncirculated Ike dollars that were not proofs. They came by themselves on a blue envelope and were in cello film like a mint set. They are called blue Ikes and had an S mintmark.
Quin, thanks for the math lesson as I wasn't sure how to calculate it. However, in that melting the pennies here in the United States is illegal just to turn a profit on the copper content, who exactly then would I sell my copper to ?
Cynthia Richards it's not illegal to destroy American silver coins. But yes, it is currently illegal to melt copper pennies. However, many believe that we are coming close to the day when the penny is abolished and the laws on melting them are lifted
Quin's Coins Thanks for answering me. I really thought it was illegal to destroy legal tender. Good info on copper pennies. Think i will begin looking for myself. 😊
Yep, I am working on an update video now. The main prizes have been sent out, but I got a lot more letters than expected so it will take me some time to process the rest.
1982 is when they switched to copper plated zinc instead of 95% copper but the best way to tell is to weigh them- a Lincoln cent that is 95% copper will weigh 3.1 grams and a copper plated zinc will weigh 2.5 grams.
but then you have boxes of copper hanging around... and it will be years before you trade them in... this just feels like a very hoardery type thing to do. Vs silver or other coins that have collection value. I see value in completing sets but hoarding giant piles of copper pennies seems crazy
That's the biggest issue with this argument right now...currently, there aren't many places to actually sell copper cents. But, that could change in the next few years!
Do u think 2009 nickels will be an extremely rare date and expensive soon? I can't even find one 2009 in a whole box. Thankfully have 2 from the past though
kingpotatoman 2009 nickels are rare, but they're not extremely rare by any means. I probably find one every two boxes or so, but I'm sure I've missed them in the past (they look just like any other undesirable nickel so they're easy to miss). As for the abolishment of the cent, I do think that it is going to happen soon. That's why I think it's important to get the copper while you can!
Some copper key dates are also worth keeping, but most are just worth spot. And seeing as the Philadelphia mint was the largest at that time, yes, it is fine that it is the most common mint mark
ThePwcj they made both that year, but I think most people will tell you that when they find a 1982, it is about 5 or 6 times more likely that it is copper. The switch to zinc was towards the end of the minting of 1982s
Thanks Quinn. Today: on May 10, 2021 close base metal prices: Copper $4.6960/lb Lincoln Copper Cent 1909-1982 Cent (95% copper) $0.01 = $0.0310543 = 310.54%
Patrick Wolf right now, melting pennies is illegal so I don't imagine any scrap company will deal with them. However, that will not be the case for much longer!
Ask you bank to get you a $50 bag of pennies from their coin counting machine, before they put them in rolls. That way you don't have to mess with opening dozens of rolls of pennies, and I think they will appreciate it as well.

Laura Macias hey thanks for watching! I usually call into my bank or credit union and have them order the boxes for me. With half dollars, you have to do it this way because banks generally don't just order half dollars for no reason. Happy hunting!
+Laura Macias I wouldn't spend $500 right away! Start small, just buy a box and make sure you have a way to dump the unwanted coins when you're done. Then, you can build your way up to numbers like that as you get more comfortable with dealing with all the coins.
Quin's Coins thanks for the advice but I can't do a little because I'm only gonna get it for my birthday but I can just save the zinc and then one day I will dump them out but your right I'm just gonna spend 200
Thanks for watching guys! If you want to see more of the "Search For Copper", make sure to leave a like on the video so I know! Oh and in case you're wondering...Copper = CU. Do with that information what you wish :D
Quin's Coins great video! I've been hoarding copper pennies for about 2 years now XD
Search for: Cake Union
Quin's Coins yes I love penny roll hunting can you do a 10000 pennies special and see how much you made
Quin's Coins imagine that wheatie was a 1943

I hoard pennies lol nice show Quinn
love the video :)
Mike Van Leeuwen thanks!
I have about $500 in copper pennies and feel like it is useless to hoard them and it takes so long to sort the copper and zinc...any ideas???
If you feel like it's useless now, just take a break for a while and see what the market does. When it gives you an incentive to start hoarding again, go for it! Just don't wait too long otherwise there might not be any pennies left!
ASteich you can buy a machine to sort the copper out for you. One warning, It will sort out older and really worn down wheat cents/copper pennies.
hey quins coins I love your channel whenever I'm sad and angry I just watch you and I feel happy and kinda jealous but another thing is do you just go to the bank and ask for them or do they order them we'll anyways i like your videos . keep up the effort
Awesome! I collect so many copper pennies. I have a Rubbermaid bin halfway full of copper pennies
Sweet vid! I need to start saving my copper pennies!
new to this. what did you mean when you said trade them in for more money. where would a person take their pennies. ect... thanks in advance.

really helpful thank you!
Great videos!
So once you get all these copper pennies , what do you do with them ? Can you sell them just for the copper?
but where would you sell them ?????
thinkin one day soon a copper penny might have the buying power of a quarter savin mine in coffee containers bout 20 pounds when full
That day could be coming soon!
Did you get the postage stamp?
Brett Bowcutt I did! I have a video coming out later today that will update everyone on the progress of the giveaway so be sure to check it out. I'm still working on getting back to everyone, but I certainly haven't forgotten!

What banks do u guys have best luck at
nothin worse than a zinc penny until there made out of PLASTICCCCCCC
what years were the pennies minted with 95% copper? also do a couple more boxes of pennies, I just think that you are doing something that benefits a lot of people. gives something to do and also helps me know what pennies I might want to keep

1959-1981; about half of the pennies made in 1982 were made out of zinc and the other half is made out of copper because 1982 was the transition year.

Can someone please explain minting to me? Like I kind of have no idea what it is and I don’t know how to find out. And what is a proof?
Where do you cash in the copper pennies
Quin, thanks for the math lesson as I wasn't sure how to calculate it. However, in that melting the pennies here in the United States is illegal just to turn a profit on the copper content, who exactly then would I sell my copper to ?
Your best bet is craigslist, but for most copper hoarders it's a waiting game.
Thanks again for passing on the knowledge. Good Luck.
I hv a stupid question.....what point of getting silver and copper coins bc it illegal to destroy legal tender. Please answer.
are you still doing the half dollar giveaway, I sent before Jan. 1st.
Yep, I am working on an update video now. The main prizes have been sent out, but I got a lot more letters than expected so it will take me some time to process the rest.
Nice finds
Where would I sell these copper Penny's for the price amigo.
I have 2 coins which are 1oz, so its worth keeping?
How do you identify which penny is copper and which one is not?
1982 is when they switched to copper plated zinc instead of 95% copper but the best way to tell is to weigh them- a Lincoln cent that is 95% copper will weigh 3.1 grams and a copper plated zinc will weigh 2.5 grams.

Problem is there was so many 1970s pennies in one of my boxes that if I kept them I’d loses the money I’d get back
Where could you take the copper pennies?
That's the biggest issue with this argument right now...currently, there aren't many places to actually sell copper cents. But, that could change in the next few years!
Do u think 2009 nickels will be an extremely rare date and expensive soon? I can't even find one 2009 in a whole box. Thankfully have 2 from the past though
Also do you think the penny is going to end in the us soon? Look at Canada, Australia, etc
kingpotatoman 2009 nickels are rare, but they're not extremely rare by any means. I probably find one every two boxes or so, but I'm sure I've missed them in the past (they look just like any other undesirable nickel so they're easy to miss). Quin's Coins I like copper
I'm waiting until may, after I move and I will be starting to put them aside. :)
Smart choice! They tend to take up quite a bit of space and can get difficult to transport lol
When does date and condition of coin become more important than CU content? Is it ok that all 20's and 30's are Philly minted?
Most wheat cents are worth keeping, seeing as some of them can even sell upwards of a dollar.
Some copper key dates are also worth keeping, but most are just worth spot. And seeing as the Philadelphia mint was the largest at that time, yes, it is fine that it is the most common mint mark
I have 50,000 copper pennies currently, adding more and more everyday
so is 1982 copper or zinc?
ThePwcj they made both that year, but I think most people will tell you that when they find a 1982, it is about 5 or 6 times more likely that it is copper. The switch to zinc was towards the end of the minting of 1982s
Thank you for the reply. I will hang on to all 82's. Love the videos thank you for your time and work.
Been saving copper pennies since 2009
Thanks Quinn. Today: on May 10, 2021 close base metal prices:
Copper $4.6960/lb Lincoln Copper Cent 1909-1982 Cent (95% copper) $0.01 = $0.0310543 = 310.54%
The only problem is most scrap companies don't do penny's because of the problems with going through them
Patrick Wolf right now, melting pennies is illegal so I don't imagine any scrap company will deal with them. However, that will not be the case for much longer!
Whats the price of zink?
About $0.0125 (1.25 cents).
@@tvoovm7254 hell im sa ing all pennys now! Thanks!
Ask you bank to get you a $50 bag of pennies from their coin counting machine, before they put them in rolls. That way you don't have to mess with opening dozens of rolls of pennies, and I think they will appreciate it as well.
Do coin shops buy copper
I don't know of any that do but it's possible!
Is a 1929 penny rare?
kind a
How much is a 1929 penny worth? Becuase I have one.
Hampton Jones it depends on the condition and we're it was minted. I looked in eBay and they are going from .99 to several hundreds of dollars
The price of copper went down. 1 copper cent is now only worth 1.9 cents each.
I do hoard copper cents
To get the copper isn’t it illegal because you kinda have to melt them
BYTFS _ no, you can just trade it in without melting
Why? Melting copper is illegal now, what's the point unless you're looking for errors.
This is investing AWESOME
what would be even better are the variety cents you're turning back in to the bank for me to find! worth much more than that copper you're saving!
eh...to each his own
You're right Gilbert, most people don't want to spend the time it takes to find those varieties though! Of course, I enjoy it!
Ok you got my attention, I have my smorgashborg of pennies leftovers thanks for the
information good stuff . L.A
Whatever you do, DON'T melt them copper cents! Even when it becomes legal, after the death of the cent, they might be far more valuable after the collapse of the dollar. Possibly even face value on a subsequent gold and silver standard.

Sorry for the typo's-
it was 8
so pennies 1982 til now are not as much copper and 1981 to before are mostly copper
Saul Gamez correct
Quin's Coins thank you
is it possible to have a 1982 penny and it mostly consist of copper?
Saul Gamez yes. 1982 is a transitional year. About 80% of 1982 pennies are 95% copper and the other 20% are 95% zinc.
how do you tell the difference?
I do save the 1959 pennies cause one day the memorial cent will be like the wheats
For sure! I saved that particular date for a while as well.
In 1965 that was a quarter and dime rid of silver plants not half dollars they did rid be silver half dollars in 1971
Nickels are 75% Copper and you don't have to search dates
Species 8473 and they cost 5x as much for almost the same amount of copper:
I have $200 FV in copper pennies saved so far
Nicky Zeljo nice! How do you store it?
Right now I have them in large ziploc bags.
Search for : Coins Unearthed
I can't believe you found that at 12:16!
Just keep collecting pennies you can find more coins for the money worth .
You really hit on a gOOd box,BUT you can not sell copper pennies for melt. It's still illegal to destroy U.S. coinage. at least that's what I've been hearing, but I still do what your do too.Do you go through the NON copper for errors or you don't bother?
Kool
definitely an interesting video. I'm going to save my coppers
Just smelt your pennies into a bullion without anyone knowing and sell it.
that's against the law and no scrap yard will touch it!
The time of recording-“Woah I can make money off pennys with their meltdown price!!!”-modern day-Its illegal to melt U.S. currency.
It was illegal then too.
Quin's Coins oh my bad😂 ,anyways can u look at my channel and tell me if my 1974 D penny is an error
hey quins coins I love your channel whenever I'm sad and angry I just watch you and I feel happy and kinda jealous but another thing is do you just go to the bank and ask for them or do they order them we'll anyways i like your videos . keep up the effort
Laura Macias hey thanks for watching! I usually call into my bank or credit union and have them order the boxes for me. With half dollars, you have to do it this way because banks generally don't just order half dollars for no reason. Happy hunting!
Quin's Coins thanks I just want pennies I'm gonna spend all my 500 dollars as a 8 year old and say it was for you
+Laura Macias I wouldn't spend $500 right away!
Quin's Coins because I want to save my money and buy a quarter box when I'm older
