I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Futuristic Nigeria is such a good idea. You rarely see "future" depictions, either logical or complete fiction, take place outside of more prominent countries. Or hell, outside the US, haha.
Edit: Wakanda is one depiction. Prominence isn't the same thing as being common. Lol
You think.... you think Nigeria isn't developed? Lagos, Nigeria of all places?
It might have been cooler if they animated this with the Meander process where they combine traditional hand drawn animation with computer animation.
@@TigerOfTheMistI don’t think that’s what they meant. What most people mean by “futuristic” is advanced way beyond anything we have right now. Like those science fiction movies.
@@AlexMcGillvrey Absolutely. Would've been neat.
We need more futuristic/sci-fi shows that show a glimpse of what Africa would look like today if it wasn't invaded and colonized. Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire needs a second season!!! Such a beautifully animated series!
But anyway, Africa was definitely developed and was blooming long before colonization and slavery. There were royals and advanced civilizations in Africa long before the European settlers set foot in Africa. In fact, there are still royals in Africa today. The tired and old, "disease ridden, full of poverty and famine" depiction of Africa in mainstream media is so inaccurate. There are so many beautiful, rich parts of Africa that are never talked about in mainstream media. Gee, I wonder why. 🙃 Could it be to hide the fact that Africa literally fuels the world with its precious natural resources and culture?
As a Nigerian, this is by far the most impressive looking Nigerian animated story I've seen so far. Good or bad, I don't care. I'm really excited. The characters talk and act exactly the way we do. Especially the villian who sounds like he wants to use someone for ritual.
They don't talk like us boss. They speak the way Nollywood has deceived the world into thinking that's how we speak
They borrowed cues from Evangelion with the villain
Seems like a bot comment. "they just like me"
The team has done lots of research to make it accurate 😉

When Nigeria continues to be torn apart by rubbish leaders who want nothing more than to line their pockets and frustrate the people, it's encouraging to see talented Nigerians coning together to create something beautiful! I heard about this series through a BBC article, but I hope it's being given adequate attention in Nigeria too. I'd be willing to start another free trial of Disney+ to watch this! Heck, I'd even pay for 1 month of the subscription to support my Nigerian brothers who put this together 👏🏾 The only reason I would stay for longer is because I don't want to willingly give Disney any of my money 🤣
Fascism seems to be the tea brewing in every nation's cup lately 😬. We all need optimistic depictions of the future which don't paper over the fact that some problems, like inequality and corruption, don't just go away.

When a media company makes a movie like this, it’s means the median income in that country has risen to the point where a movie like this is viewed as profitable. Disney knows what they are doing in this case, very well. Awesome job Nigeria!❤️🇯🇲👍

This is actually a big step for Disney. Instead of race swapping a pre-existing character for social credit, they're making an entirely new character/series to represent a group of people. I support this.
Sorry to disappoint you, but they just ripped off Bolt badly, replaced it with a stupider version of Pascal from Tangled and sprinkled it with a bit Wakanda. If they Disney didn't own those franchises already they would sue the creators.
@@ton1your comment just ruin my positivity and expectations, but it's kind of truth, so, you have a point 💯
This is 100% the kind of thing I'm looking for. It's such a breath of fresh air when we get whole new stories with a multi-ethnic cast. It feels so natural and there's no baggage. It's just all-around more fun.

Well done Disney. This has me excited. It’s so nice to finally see a modern African storyline at the centre of a Disney animation. Gotta admit, its cool that disney is focusing on places and stories outside of traditional European and north American ones. Between classic Disney fairytales, modernized Marvel superheroes, and an avalanche of animated series set in their own universe, we’ve only seen a handful of movies set in beautiful locales like Nigeria.
Personally, im hoping they continue this trend. Where do you want them to go next? Peru? India? Back to Nigeria?
Edit: wow i did not expect this comment to blow up the way it has. Thanks guys! If this keeps up, maybe I’ll get my first 1k comment!
If they keep working with Kugali, it will likely be other places in Africa.
Personally Ireland would be fun
I just think it is sad we all depend on American Mega Corporations to represent us when we can do all this ourselves.
I think doing a Caribbean would be cool, but they probably never would…and if they do it’ll probably be Jamaica
I agree with you, I am Colombian, (a guy with white skin tone type cafe con leche) and the truth is good that Disney explores new places outside of what we are used to like Europe or North America itself.
Three years ago Disney made an excellent representation of the culture of my country Colombia, and it was a good study on the customs, the atmosphere and the Colombian culture. Even the movie was well received in the country where it is set.
I thank Disney for this, because Colombia was only represented by drug traffickers, drugs and biographical series of the life of narcos (I see you netflix) that only bring bad image to the country. Thanks to Disney for breaking this and giving something that is very pleasant to watch.
Love how Disney animated the mirabelle hair, giving it a whole new level, since there are people with that type c that is curly hair. And how there are different skin tones in people, since in my country there is an incredible miscegenation without the need for racism.
In conclusion, Disney did a good job in creating "Encanto", and it was the most successful thing they have done for the moment and I hope that other animation producers do the same with my country. We must gradually remove that bad image sown by the Narcoseries and make visible the good that can be a representation. Iwaju is a example of this.
It kind of reminds me of the tv show in the movie Bolt. Futuristic scientist dad gifts daughter an enhanced pet/caretaker. I’m not mad at it.
Taking place in Wakanda
Yeah me too! Nice to see that concept have a chance to play out for real this time instead of being just a plot in a TV show within a movie.
