Thank you, Big Al. As I said in a previous video, the original idea is courtesy of Jolene @Bookworm Adventure Girl. Later today, I will be posting a video sort of rounding out my Goodreads Trilogy. The idea for that one also came from Jolene.
Seriously, I rarely DNF a book, but most of the ones I know of from your list are because I did not finish, or because I own, but have yet to read them. "Cabin at the End of the World" and "Zombie" I started both but just couldn't deal with the brutal violence and unpleasantness of the story lines. I actually read about halfway into each, but it was not for me, regardless of how well written they were. I have read and enjoyed over 60 Stephen King Books, but Colorado Kid didn't work for me..I just had this feeling it was going nowhere, so when it became due at the library, I did not renew it. I may give it another try one of these days. "Blockade Billy" is on my shelf untouched after getting it at a thrift store...but it is still in original shrink wrap and has a mock up of baseball card in it for Billy..so I didn't open right away & it sits there waiting still. Red Badge of Courage I got recently because I have always heard it is a "must read"...but now I wonder!
I agree. I'm not one for heavy violence. I often find it disturbing. Zombie had me torn. I was put off by the violence, but at the same time, I was mesmerized by Oates' writing. When I gave it 4 stars, it was for the writing, not the story. And Cabin was just a total put off for me. The only reason I read it was because it was the only book I had with me when I was snowed in at work. That taught me a lesson about always bringing my tablet with me, no matter what. Colorado Kid really did go nowhere. It was a study in futility, but I felt King handled it well. The ending was well done. Red Badge of Courage just didn't do it for me. Like you, I had heard many accolades about it, but it left me cold. It could have been mood, and one day, I may try it again. I feel like I should like it. So, you're a Stephen King fan. What are your favorites? My King favorites are The Shinning, Duma Key, Dolores Claiborne, Misery, Revival, and Billy Summers.
Really like this video idea 👍
