Fun story: I never actually watched anime when I was learning to draw, so I wasn’t copying actual anime. I was copying other people copying actual anime. No wonder all my art was so bad…
I can say the same. I never watched anime when I was a kid but one time someone said my style looks very anime-ish and I was like how? Then I realized I probably copied from other artists who got their style from anime
I just want to mention the fact that you saying “hope you’re having a good day” at the beginning of your videos always makes me smile. I’m sick right now and hearing that has made me feel so much better
I went into this thinking "lmao what the hell is Mamotte Lollipop" but then you gave the synopsis and it was like an old dusty lamp in my head just suddenly turned on like OH I KNOW THAT!!!! HOLY SHIT!!! Anime and manga from the past that arent as widely known in the modern day tend to fade into obscurity, and when someone brings it up its like flashes of disjointed memories come together and its a real treat I dont think is comparable to anything else
I'm just going to copy and paste this comment I made since I think it's interesting. xD I still love this series a lot, although I haven't revisited it in awhile! So I also found it kinda funny that since I never really saw a fandom for it, I guess it's clear it may fade into obscurity over time. I'll never forget this manga, since it was around when I'd just gotten into manga after _Kamichama Karin_ and (maybe before or after) _Kitchen Princess,_ and my older brother bought the first four volumes of _Mamotte Lollipop_ for me. I never really saw a fandom for this one, but I did come to read the entire series online and its sequel series _Madotte! Mamotte Lollipop,_ and I still remember running into Zero, Nina, and Ichi in the _My Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch_ manga because apparently their creators are friends. xD
Now I really need to see a one-shot from Alex, that page looks too good (possibly a short manga about High Hopes, Low Roles even, if he is not into creating a whole new setting)
I can just see Rea screaming it’s “O. W. O. Letters!!! Not OwO! My username was first before this UwU trend!!!” Love you dude you’re art is seriously inspiring and your videos are my go to when I draw! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
god, this inspires me to redraw the first ever speedpaint I saw and thought was THE ultimate goal.. it was the reason I started digital drawing and I guess it would be a cool challenge to draw it with the art skills I gained!
Your version of Forte is a goddamn delight, I love how much like a constantly flabbergasted nerd he looks!! Also, dude. Every time I watch one of your videos, your voice is deeper and deeper. It makes me really happy how well your transition is going!
Thinking about how Alex's art is inspiring a brand-new batch of artists makes me so happy. Like, dude, you've become the person others look forward to! It's so cute!
I actually watched this show when I was in college and I loved it. I have some pretty serious anxiety, so watching cutesy shows really helps me not think about the world and all its problems. I think you're paid it a really good homage, and I'm happy another adult likes this show too. :)
I didn't think anyone would go back to this series. I really like this series. It's one of the second anime that got me into the anime genre as a whole.
Hey there! I just wanted to say I absolutely Love your voice, its so calm and soothing and helps me focus with drawing myself a lot! Your work is amazing and I hope youre doing very well :3
oh my gosh, this was one of my favorite mangas when I was a kid too! I don't remember the art style being that..... I don't want to say bad, but... Yeah. That. By comparison, I muuuuch prefer your art, and your Zero is SO CUTE! He was my favorite, so that's what I was looking forward to seeing the most when I clicked this tbh xD
i love this speedpaint! it really takes me back to being curled up in the library reading tokyo mew mew and sailor moon during my lunch breaks. the detail of your style while also just keeping to the theme and honoring your roots is inspiring, especially to people like me who look up to you and your work! 10/10 for me! keep up the incredible work and positive attitude!
This is such a fun concept. I definitely need to try this! I love the way that you draw characters and seeing the whole process is really informative. Also, unrelated but you have a really nice voice!

I'd love to see more of you redrawing manga pages. It's really fascinating to watch and see how you interpret it while still keeping to the original page.
Omg this brought back so much nostalgia for this old shoujo manga. WOW, the art style looks a lot different than I remember. You did a really good job!
AHHHHHH I've been going on a nostalgia kick and rewatching mamotte lollipop.....this is so fantastic and I'm happy there are other people who like this anime 🥺
This was so satisfying to watch! Such a blast from the past. I also used to read this and felt such nostalgia watching, its so fun seeing the characters reimagined. ♥️♥️♥️
This is so cool! I think it's also interesting to look at it as an example of how art styles in general in manga have evolved since the time this originally came out.
Your art style makes me want to cry 😭 I’ve looked up to you for so long as I’ve grown through my own art but being in a rough place with my art right now and seeing how clean and aesthetically pleasing yours is just hit me hard you know 😭😭😭 I’m not giving up but plEASE don’t ever stop drawing
your videos always make me want to go back to drawing lol i really love the idea of redrawing a page from a manga series that inspired you early in your art career, and you really knocked this page out of the park!
Man alive, this type of video really brings me back. My first manga was Godchild of all things. For those who don't know, it's a gothic horror shojo. The very first chapter (which was the one I was exposed to) had a decapitated girl ... and I was intrigued. Godchild kick started an interest in, not only gothic horrors, but manga itself, which has certainly pushed me into wanting to draw. Anyways, lovely video as always. And a neat little history into your art journey. I kind of want to redraw a Godchild page now.
Honestly i'm glad that you like Save Me Lollipop and it inspired you as a child cause when I was a kid I watched the anime and I really liked it,I too did not see the whole story because the anime didn't make a 2nd season and I couldn't find any manga online to read, yet it still holds close to my heart cause it's one of the first anime i've seen,I remember re-watching it all the time cause I just really liked the story that much even though it wasn't the greatest story re-watching it again,i'm still pretty young but for some reason it still gives me lots of nostalgia.

I used to scour my local libraries for manga even going so far as to make constant requests once I figured out I could. Because of this, I actually know which manga you're talking about, though they only had the first one. It's always nice to realize that other people knew about the same super obscure manga that you did.
OMG!! You have no idea how happy am I to see you drawing Mamotte! Lollipop!!! It was the first anime that I ever watched and was what introduced me to the fantastic genre. (Although unfortunately, I didn't know at the time how to find manga, but was later introduced to that medium through Hollow Fields.) None of my otaku friends have ever heard of it, so I'm glad that one of my favorite artists grew up with the series as well!!

Oh my gosh this came out incredible!! Would definetly love to see more manga redraws like this ❤ Mamotte Lollipop was one of my top 5 favorite manga when I was 11-12, so seeing this felt so nostalgic. I remember my favorite at the time was always Forte, and I still have old letters I would write addressed to the author expressing how much the manga meant to me, but never sent them. This inspired me to do some fanart again ❤❤
Save Me lollipop was the first ever anime I ever got into it holds a special place in my heart I love it so much I want to cry I didn't even know people knew it existed I'm so happy right now

I grew up with the manga and I remember coming across the anime's art style much later when I got old enough to use the internet, and just thinking it's disappointing how cheap the art style looked asgdgksj. This is what I’m talking about.” I really liked this anime as a kid, I loved it. One of my first anime boy crushes was Zero actually, he’s literally the only character I remember just for that reason.
