  • ‘THIS IS AN EMERGENCY’ - MANCHESTER’S HOSPITALITY SCENE CALLS FOR GOVERNMENT TO REDUCE VAT TO 10%
Our hospitality scene is in crisis.
Restaurants across the country are closing at an alarming rate, and many chefs, owners and operators across Manchester are ‘on a cliff edge’.
They are calling for a reduction in VAT to 10% from the current crippling rate of 20%, more than double the average seen across Europe.
It would ease the pressure they’re facing from rocketing energy bills and the cost of raw materials.
Your favourite restaurant could close tomorrow.
To stop that happening, watch our film and sign the petition…

The gorvenment argues that they would lose out on too much tax revenue if they were to cut it to 10%. I think they fail to realise that if they keep it at 20% they will be losing out on a lot more if we all go bankrupt and there are no hospitality businesses left to pay VAT.

I can remember when VAT was 7 1/2 % and not everything was subjected to it. All it is,is a hidden stealth tax, businesses should get help.
