Google sucks... I knew the words sounded wrong in relation to the vocals... Here's the true lyrics so no one is lead astray by my idiocy:)
    [Verse 1]
    I've been run down
    I've been lied to
    I don't know why
I let that mean woman make me a fool
    She took all my money
    Wrecked my new car
Now she's with one of my good time buddies
They're drinking in some crosstown bar
    [Chorus]
    Sometimes I feel
    Sometimes I feel
    Like I've been tied
    To the whipping post
    Tied to the whipping post
    Tied to the whipping post
Good Lord, I feel like I'm dying
    [Guitar Solo: Duane Allman]
    [Verse 2]
    My friends tell me
That I've been such a fool
And I have to stand by and take it, babe
    All for loving you
    I drown myself in sorrow
As I look at what you've done
    But nothing seems to change
The bad times stay the same
    And I can't run
    [Chorus]
    Sometimes I feel
    Sometimes I feel
    Like I've been tied
    To the whipping post
    Tied to the whipping post
    Tied to the whipping post
Good Lord, I feel like I'm dying
    [Guitar Solo: Dickey Betts]
    [Chorus]
    Sometimes I feel
    Sometimes I feel
    Like I've been tied
    To the whipping post
    Tied to the whipping post
    Tied to the whipping post
Good Lord, I feel like I'm dying

You're reading lyrics from Stateboro Blues, no Whipping Post. Welcome to the Allman Brothers, Gregg Allman on vocals and keys, Duane Allman on first lead guitar. The first rock band I fell in love with when I was 15. Duane had a brief but magnificent body of work, and died only a year after this recording in a motorcycle crash, just before his 24th birthday. You will fall in love with this band. Their first 4 albums are their greatest - The Allman Brothers Band - 1969, Idlewild South - 1970, Live at the Fillmore East - 1971, Eat a Peach - 1972, released after Duane's death. He recorded on only part of the album. Google "Greatest Rock Guitarists of all time" and you will consistently see Duane's name in the top 10.

One of the best southern rock groups of the 70's. I saw the AB at Summer Jam, a rock festival held at Watkins Glen in summer of 1973. They performed with the Band and the Grateful Dead in front of 600,000 fans. That was the summer I graduated high school. What a great time that was! Duane Allman was one of the best guitarists ever. He performed as a session musician on many 60's R&B icons. Sadly, he was killed not long after this performance in a motorcycle crash, but the music remains 50 years later. A couple instrumentals to check out from AB would be In Memory of Elizabeth Reed and Jessica. Anything from the Fillmore shows is great as well.

I see you have sorted out the lyrics issue. I was watching your video on my TV, so I couldn't respond right away. Somehow,, the lyrics you had during your video were titled 'Whipping Post, but were actually the lyrics to Statesboro Blues, which is a MUST LISTEN for ABB;s fans. Some blistering slide guitar work there. He impressed Eric Clapton enough that he flew him to England to do guitar fills for Layla, etc, based on what he'd heard Duane do on Wilson Pickett's cover of Hey Jude. Clapton said "That's the best session guitar work I've ever heard and I have to know who it is." He actually invited Duane to join his band, but Duane declined.
They are a fantastic band - along with the Dead, the greatest jam bands of all time. You have really good taste. :)
Berry Oakley is the most underrated great bass player of his, or any other, generation. He played it like a lead instrument instead of part of the rhythm section....which playing with 2 drummers allowed him to do - just like Phil Lesh of the Dead.
Oh. yeah. Duane was also very humble. To an interviewer, he said "I'm the well-known guitarist. The good guitarist is Dicky Betts." Betts is the other guitar player on that video.

And, Daniel, the band Derek & The Dominoes had as one of its founding members, the guy you covered a couple days ago, Eric Clapton. This was from a show called "Welcome to the Filmore East" which was broadcast on WNET, and local PBS station and WNBC radio on Sep, 23 1970. Five days after Jimi Hendrix died. The concert included the Allman Brothers, Elvin Bishop, The Byrds, Albert King, Sha-na-na. Yes Sha-na-na. And Van Morrison. The reason the audio and video camerawork is so sketchy is because someone forget to plug in Gregg's microphone. You can hear the moment the tech realized the problem and plugged it in on another song the played right before this "Dreams". Anyway because of the mess up they didn't air the Allman Brothers part of the concert and this is just leftover footage with no production. It's kind of a miracle it even exists and wasn't thrown away. You can compare this footage to that of the other bands that performed that night and kinda see what it was "supposed" to look/sound like. It's notable because it's really the only good live footage that exists with Duane Allman.

I don’t think I know anyone who hasn’t heard this song. I heard it blasting out of an apartment as I walked to the store just the other day. This video is from a different night than the one on the album which is a whole album side. Sometimes they’d play this for over half an hour. Another great cut from the live at Filmore album is “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”. Another American Band from this period to check out is The Band ( yes that’s their name.) their album “ “Music from Big Pink” influences everyone from Yes and the Beatles to the Dead and the Allman bro’s. The unintelligible words were part of the charm and it just made you imagine what you think they said, often with hilarious results. The song Louie Louie from 1962 was banned and suppressed but was a major hit anyway. The FBI was afraid that the unintelligible lyrics were either dirty or some secret soviet code. It wasn’t, it’s just an old love song. Louie Louie is important because it spawned a thousand garage bands around the world and is a foundational rock song. ua-cam.com/video/CCY0bAPLZ1w/v-deo.html

Duane would play on almost every song on the groups only album before the leader of the group disbanded the Dominoes. Eric Clapton went back to being Eric and Duane just went away after a truck ran his motorcycle over at an intersection. Some part of Duane will always live as long as someone feels the life in his music.

Like the Grateful Dead, the Allman Bros, Band, has two drummers. Duane Allman (guitar) died shortly after this performance ( I think within a year or so) when he was hit by a Peach truck while riding his Harley Davidson back in his hometown. The next album was named "Eat a Peach," in Duane's honor. Great Blues guitarist.

It just does my heart good to see younger people getting hip to this stuff. It's not "our" music and now out of style. It's GREAT music that never gets old. I envy guys like you getting to hear it for the first time, and yeah...my reaction was the same in '71: Wow. Allman Bros. at the Fillmore. It was their pinnacle.

This song had what you might call an extended coda. It's a good thing that aside from applauding, you didn't give them a standing ovation every time you thought the end had come. Your legs would have gotten tired.

Two lead guitarists, two drummers. The Allman Brothers were truly amazing. RIP Gregg Allman (keyboards, vocals) , RIP Duane Allman (lead guitar), RIP Berry Oakley (bass), RIP Butch Trucks (drums). Only two original members remain: Dickey Betts (guitar) and Jaimoe Johanson (drums). These guys were steeped in the blues.

Rolling Stone compiled a list of the 100 greatest guitarists of the 20th century and 4 of the 100 were from the Allman Brothers Band -- originally Duane Allman and Dickie Betts, and later in their career, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. This video is a showpiece for both Duane and Dickie as well as Gregg Allman's amazing voice.

Also the time of epic guitar solos and guitar legends....Sure hope the guitar becomes popular again as a solo instrument in popular music. As a young dude....do you think it ever will? Do most kids these days have the attention span for extended solos by new guitar gods?

Statesboro Blues and One Way Out are legendary. Duane Allman set the bar high with his slide guitar playing. No one had ever heard slide guitar played that way. The start of Fillmore East is Statesboro Blues and the slide guitar playing took people’s breath away it was so unique at the time!

The guy singing and playing the organ is Gregg Allman. The main guitarist is his brother Duane Allman. Duane Allman and bassist Berry Oakley were both killed in separate motorcycle crashes in 1971 and 1972, respectively. The crashes were just a few blocks apart.

This is up around the pinnacle of rock music recorded live. With two world class guitarists, two great drummers and Berry Oakley on running the whole show on bass, the time signatures and waves of music just flow around us. And the gravelly, bluesy voice of the blond, blue-eyed Gregg Allman and his Hammond are the icing on the cake. Doesn't get any better than this, folks...

Two drummers, Duane (on Eric Clapton's album Layla), etc. Gregg is the singer on the B3 Hammond organ. Great singer. All superb musicians. Rock n roll Hall of Fame. Duane was a noted studio musician at Muscle Shoals, on Areatha's record, Otis Redding, etc. This was at the Fillmore East, a legendary venue. I wish you could see the guitarists hands, Duane played slide a lot, famous for it. They invented "southern rock", infusing jazz, country, R & B, Blues together. I knew a member of the crew, so I got to see some pretty good stuff ! Thanks for this, you did well !!!

This whole Fillmore East live album is def one of those required listens. But I'd also get into their first 3 or 4 albums - seminal music to be sure. Anyway, Whippin Post is such a great song. I certainly remember hearing this for the first time, loved the organic, 'real' tone but also by their incredible skill as musicians.
BTW - see the Tedeschi Trucks Band for today's sort of incarnation of the ABB (features the incredible guitarist Derek Trucks, nephew of the drummer in this vid Butch Trucks!). Yeah, yet another rabbit hole...but its a good one! Enjoy Daniel.

Daniel, you read lyrics to Statesboro Blues, a different song from this concert. Gregg Allman is on keyboards and is singing. Duane Allman and Dicky Betts are on guitars. Not too much you can say about this song. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed would also be good to do. This particular version of Allman Bros. would not be around too long as Duane and Berry Oakley would both die in motorcycle accidents a year apart and a few blocks apart in Macon, Georgia. Whipping Post was written by Gregg while Statesboro Blues is a blues standard by Biind Willie McTell from 1928. With all due respect maybe a little research would be in order.

If you enjoyed that then listen to the entire Fillmore East Live 72 double album.... Its like fine wine , it gets better with age... The first three songs to start the album are perfection, shorter in duration which sets you up for the longer pieces that follow. Now that you've got the Allmans under your belt you officially become a member of the 70s. Now get a job, have three kids, 2 ex-wives and no hair on your head... But the music is still great.

There is a lot of story to this band, much of it tragic. The purple shirt is Duane Allman, the older brother. The singer is Greg Allman, younger brother, writer of most of the music and lyrics, but Duane also wrote music, and Dickie Betts also writes songs. Duane was very much in demand to play with other artists. Duane formed the band, Greg was still in high school and had decided to go to college to be a dentist. Duane told him you have to be the our singer!. Greg insisted on finishing high school, then joined the band just to see how it would go. He never did go to college.

have you ever been with a girl who treated you badly? That’s the feeling that every man living has had. Like i’ve been tied to the whipping post. They’re all dead except Jaimoe and Dicky Betts. You’re listening to the original band members. Duane and Berry both died in motorcycle crashes one year apart. Butch and Greg were the last two members to pass. They were all phenomenal musicians and did their best work live.

hahhahaha..glad you found out you had the wrong words. the Brothers were INSANELY good...especially in a live setting. can you imagine being a teen, or in your early 20s back then, going to the fillmore (east OR west) and catching shows like this ??? usually with other acts on the bill as well. and only cost a few bucks. i wasn't old enough but a good friend of mine was...said sometimes you'd go to leave the venue and when the doors opened, the morning sun would almost knock you over....they would play ALL night. most amazing thing....sadly....Duane (the blonde guitarist) died shortly after this. he was 24. a year later the bass player died...about a block away from where duane crashed his bike....berry, also a motorcycle accident. the band carried on for years and were still grewat but....this is the ultimate lineup. i hope you will do more Brothers!
