- Lots going on we fit up the warn winch to ARB bar we test out a lot the 35s under the new 4cylinder 2.8 turbo diesel 79series GXL dual can on Kumho AT52 all terrains getting ready for that long weekend trip up to the wattagans to test out heaps sleeping in the swags the all terrain tyres in the muddy conditions
Love the 50 / 50 installation 😅 and all the bush mechanic modifications to suit. It's nice to watch someone completely not afraid to bash this vehicle like it's intended to be and not the usual UA-cam videos with not a spec of dust on their tourers.

Appreciate your effort and enthusiasm with sharing your experience and knowledge. Please keep it up. The loss of braking with the heavy (46kg) 35" tyres is interesting, and is something to consider for anyone wanting tall fat tyres. My limit is the stock 33" skinnys - the tyres are still only 29kgs even though on steel rims, so brakes have been OK. I guess your next step might be to consider an upgraded brake booster. In the old days it was common to replace single diaphragm booster on the 6cyl 79series with the twin diaphragm booster from an 80series. But these days there are plenty of aftermarket boosters.

Another good one. Interesting to see the brakes going forward. I just added bar and winch to mine last weekend. The factory 2024 bumper and support weigh about 28kg so I actually added 60 kg to mine but stock suspension. I also had same run of cables from winch control box but used a bit of pinch weld to protect them which is a bit sturdier than split tube. Good work, cheers

Toyota did away with the old school proportional valve for the rear brakes when they got abs. That was years ago. There mustve been a mistake on the parts page because theres no way thats correct. They somehow have it so the proportioning is worked out in some other way.
Ok thanks for that, yes there must have been a mistake, and mobs like ARB TJM Terrain tamer all list a proportioning valve and sway bar extension part no. Must just be old news..
@TeamBulletOffroad those proportioning valves never really worked properly anyway. I use the little extension to raise the arm as much as I can so the rear brakes actually get some fluid. You see so many of the older 70s where it's only the front brakes doing any braking. Another trick was to just disconnect that arm and tie it up under the tray so the valve was fully open all the time.

Now I noticed your handbrake cables touching the Rancho shockers. I am running the same as you, parabolic springs and Rancho shockers only on my 2003 Workmate single Cab. I have been concerned as you should be and haven't thought of a solution. Is it a worry as the cable will rub the exterior of the shocker ? Kym cheers.
Ive had the same example on 2 79s prior and on the grey one even at over 100k on the clock it barely took paint off the shock,. so its never really made my "to-do" list.. I guess the ideal situation would be an upside down damper... Thanks heaps for the good point though..
Have you consider one of those Marks 4wd hydro boosters for the 79?

How do U recon them lo leaf springs will go serious offroading? They hang very low
Good question.. Wheel placement is important to keep that load leaf from hitting but we went pretty hard in the old grey one when we ran these..
