This ending makes me cry so hard. I love this game. The remaster get so much hate but I'm happy a whole new set of people can discover it. The story is amazing. The ost is great and it really knows how to pull on your heartstrings.
@@animefreak10023 it’s been 20 years since I played this game and seeing this ending still makes me sob like a baby.
Why does the remaster get a lot of hate? I have the original myself, but I thought people were happy it was remastered?
yes I want to know this to. Why does the remaster get so much hate.
The only bad thing of the game is that it's backstory is *BARELY* touched, it's just dumped on you and leaves you to "deal with it" leading to so much confusion, it's understandeble that they tried to correct with CT on the DS but almost nobody played that version so a lot of stuff gets oveshadowed. It's a real shame because when you put all together it's a beautiful and tragic history.
They had a problem of organization, apparently they wanted to make a backstory even have Janus and show his connection with Schala, but when he was going to do it there was already 40 fucking characters done so they gave up on doing it, which was just bad organization, that backstory should have been a priority over characters that are not Serge,Kid,Lynx and Harle
It's not officially canon, but the Chrono Trigger hack known as Flames of Eternity bridges the gap between Trigger and Cross and gives much needed exposition.
The back story rely on chrono trigger. Thought whether both game are actually connected it was unknown.
@@keselekbakiak there is a connection but the explanation while is very detailed is also very convoluted because they decided to do it by the end of the game, and you have to go look for it. You have to talk to every ghost in cronopolis for that lore, they explain everything about what happened after the main ending of Chrono Trigger, and if you find Belthasar before you finish the game he gives even more details about the plot and how he end up in Chrono Cross. There's even a little hint in the Dead Sea part of the game that is easily missable where it gives an explanation of Lavos, but you need the right character at that point and find an almost hidden room.
So yeah, while the game has its own self contained plot, it might not seem like it but it's also very well connected to its predecessor.
Thanks. I thought im stupid or something and ive played CT not too long ago.
The info dump by the end is too much to handle, while leaving you running around with empty story.
Running around fighting the dragons.
Good thing im playing in an emulator so 50 hours is cut off in half
Schala's diary note, ending credits and music box tune at the end screen gets me everytime😭😭😭
its my wake up alarm sound ❤
Is Schala Kid?
@@adlibconstitution1609 Yes and no she's like a clone
@@dougc190 Hola me ayudas a responder esto? Kid es la niña que Lucca encuentra, no? tengo entendido que un final alterno de CT, abre la puerta de CC, pero por que tanta importancia a Kid, de donde viene ella? no he jugado CT.
I just finished the game, and now am crying while listening this beautiful song composed by Yasunori Mitsuda.
I hope to see you again, Schala "Kid" Zeal...
Not with the new CEO of Square Enix who pretty much canned any plans for non-AAA projects. That's why you're likely never going to see a Chrono Trigger remaster or sequel in the series.
@@RCDeschene a sequel to CT or CC can be a AAA game, it is a very loved series
I was today years old when I realized the live action credits are showing Kid searching for you, the player, as Serge in the real world.
This has been my all-time favorite game since my childhood, but I finally just saw the true ending last night on my remaster play-through. I am in awe of how truly fucking profound this game is, especially for its time. It was so tragically misunderstood, but it is deserving of being called one of, if not THE most ambitious game ever made.
I agree 100% im glad i was able live in this era that i got to play this masterpiece as well and get this ending too!
It is a masterpiece also my favorite video game of all time. I think only the diehard chrono trigger fans don’t like it. I’m
It's an idea that was done before at the ending of Illusion of Gaia/Ilusion of Time for SNES. That said, they both do it really well.
Finished this game today.
Now I understand why this game is a masterpiece
To the uploader, thank you for including Leena. She had my favorite dialogue. No one else compares imo. :)
this game will always be a part of my soul...
Same! 🥺🥺❤❤
Real. This game and Suikoden 2. 😂
When I've finished this game an eternity ago, I almost shed some tears. This is one of the best endings of all games. Kid remain in all of our hearts. I hope she could find Serge again, somehow.
My gosh it's been how many years but I can still remember the element order by heart. During one of my many playthroughs where Time Devourer interrupted my setup but thankfully TD used the next element in the order lol. So many memories with this game.
It's truly an underrated masterpiece. I still can't believe it's been 20 years since it came out. Guess it is after all a "timeless" classic.
Lucky! 😂
Indeed a timeless masterpiece.
I already forgotten all the formula in algebra/ about Math but not how to get all characters and all the stuffs here.
Its all recorded deep inside my heart and brain 😁
@@javiervasquez625 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
I recorded the whole ending with casette tape, and then asked my guitar teacher to teach me about this song. It was the nost beautiful song for a game that i ever heard.
This was a pretty sad game on a personal lvl. Why? MC lost everything up to this point. Serge had to kill his own father who was integrated by Fate and became Lynx, and got stuck in a timeline not by his own choice, lost his mother and family, had his body stolen. Was considered "dead" in the timeline he was in, he was hunted down like an animal by the dragoons, lost Harle, lost Kid, then was forced to fight Lavos to put back everything as it was intended and HE didnt even cause ANY of it! Serge truly is a MC of sacrifice and loss. Im suprised SQ didnt make him some kind of Samurai! He certainly lived the life!! Sheesh.
Radical dreamer js the best song ever made for a video game. No contest
Magus (Janus) should have returned to help his sister. Would have made the ending that much better.
This party lineup of Serge, Riddel, and Leena? W lineup.
still remember getting this ending. no tutorial, no youtube. at my buddy riels dads place. i was so stoked!
The game might have many issues, but the true ending with the Song of Life and Schala/Kid finally breaking free of Lavos always brings tears to my eyes.
It’s kind of funny that now that I think about it, all of the main characters had dual personalities
I just think that having someone tell you, that you’re dreaming and passed out for a few minutes after you’ve been in an adventure for months is wild!
I'll write all those words next to my great tomb in the forest and my body wont undo with time. Maybe, in 500 years someone will read and find this piece with my body and feel it as I felt it
All of this happened because a spiky boy and his best friend tried to create a portal that can make lives easier.
Em termos de RPG, nenhum outro me marcou mais do que Chrono Cross!!!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I've had this game I think since 2003. Twice I made it to Terra Tower and each time I would quit playing the game for some reason or another. It looks like the RD edition plays nicely now. I finally finished the game last week. This ending doesn't disappoint.
Thank you Chrono Cross for reminding me why I fall in love with JRPGs again
Guys, I wanna know who's the actress shown at the end of the game portraying kid. But I can't find any intel about her. Do u know who she is?
Welll it breaks my heart to see that magus wasn't able to help his sister😢
So beautiful and nostalgic
If you cut the meandering that is 70% of the game, the beginning and ending are really good.
Is the final boss a newer version of lavos from chrono trigger
It’s the combination of Lavos and the princess called The Time Devourer
Just say it's the newer version of dream devourer, so if you're playing Chrono Trigger Ds Version, you can fight a Secret boss ( Dream Devourer ) which is the combination of Lavos and Schala
so the true ending is Kid becomes Serge's second wife after Leena ? just curious whos next to her in the picture.
Leena never becomes Serge's wife as the fortuneteller on Termina tells her that she "is not going to be so lucky finding love" at her age. The photo at the end of the game is that of an adult Serge and Kid/Schala on their wedding day as proof that Kid was succesful in her search for Serge and that they lived happily ever after as Lucca always wished for.
@@javiervasquez625 but why the ending is saying " i will find u, even if i have to search the world over...." doesn't that mean she is still not able to meet with serge ? i always think that the photo is about kid marrying other people.
@@andriassugianto1689 I'll let the words of the game's lead writer Masato Katō do the explanation as to what those lines at the end are meant to represent:
"I thought that was the perfect material to use to give meaning to a parallel world. In each independent parallel world there would be respective developing stories. If we did it that way, people at home could use the experience of Serge in the game’s worlds *to think about the reality of their own world.* Maybe somewhere in our world there’s a Kid, and surely someday *we will find and meet.* For a long time I’ve wanted realizations developed from games to not just stop with the game, and now I feel I’ve done it right. There’s a message that comes after the ending movie finished, and I hope that all players will understand these words that have come from my heart. That’s what I’d love to have happen."
The following is a quote from a comment written by a gamefaqs user named "w_mark_felt_sr" who explains the very meaning behind the words shown after the game's ending:
"Schala Kid and Serge meet each other in a lot of parallel worlds (presumably ALL), and that includes the real world. The real-world equivalent of Schala Kid is somewhere out there looking for the real-world equivalent of Serge, and *YOU* are the *real-world* equivalent of Serge. It's more obvious if you are a Japanese player playing the Japanese version of the game, since the city she's walking in in the footage is Tokyo".
Basically put, those last few words are meant not towards Serge the character but *us* the Players as we embark ourselves in our own adventure through life in search of out Kid/Schala.
PS: The man shown in the photo is indeed Serge as prooven by concept art from the official game's artbook "Missing Piece". While the book is written in japanese you can find english translations decribing each character by their original japanese names and artist commentary on the side.
@@javiervasquez625 that explain a lot. thx man. i dont think i would get the answer of this question after completed the game 20+ years before.
@@javiervasquez625 That's Another World Leena since she's the one who join your team. Home World Leena end up together with Serge
SOOO what happen with Magus??
He erased his memories, then tried to regain them(as shown in a secret ending in the Nintendo DS rerelease of Chrono Trigger) and depending on the player's opinion he either became "Guile" the mysterious masked magician found in Termina or he's still trying to remember his past somewhere out there in the Chrono Trigger world.
Curious fact: During the scene where Kid is reading the letter written to her by Lucca a shadow appears to the right of where she's standing that some fans believe is Magus using black magic to become invisible and watch over his big sister "from the shadows". It appears even when Guile is present.

Turning point in my gaming knowing there’s a true ending to every game
15:01 dang! They used the old ps1 ending and not bother to remastered it. Good thing saving 20bucks and play this master piece in emulator for hd graphic.
Ouch bet that let you go of the angst of not getting a better version. Joking aside i personally still like this "remaster" despite it's flaws due to how it allows new players to experience this timeless classic now so that it's legacy will never be lost to memory of old fans. Hate it as much as you like to me this is an amazing rerelease that invigorates my love for the Chrono series more than i ever could have imagined. :)

Just finished the game thanks to this video. Had bought the original one on psx but it remained sealed on the shelf till now. Now with the remake on the switch i finally made my way through the game. Shame it took so long. Great game! JRPGs where better that days!
The fact is I can see WHY Chrono Cross is so divisive among the fandom. They made so many changes on such a level compared to the original that... well frankly, they easily lost half their audience. There's almost no connection to the original besides a rather hollow-feeling "resolution" to a single beloved character everyone wishes had some form of resurrection. Yes, it's given here, but that's just the tip of the iceberg why this isn't held to Chrono Trigger's standard.
In fact, I'm going to pose this question as a separate reply for feedback. Do you consider Crimson Ecco's closer to a true sequel and concluder to Chrono Trigger than Chrono Cross? I consider it so, even if there are Cross-connections at it's end conclusion. But the fact remains, it wraps things up and pleases fans better than square's game did.
@@jordanscherr6699the thing is, Trigger didn't need a "sequel" or a game with loose connections to it, that's where Cross messed up. Being set in the same world is fine, but things ended nicely as they did in the og Trigger. 😅
@@saramations I can actually agree with that assessment. If this game hadn't tried to be connected to Chrono trigger in any way, it would probably have been a standout on legend of dragoons level, only even better.
@@saramations Your comment is ridiculous and laughable because you think there's no consequences for messing with time and think there's only happy happy. Chrono Cross tells you the darker side of what Crono and the crew had done.
I was wondering who Weiss was. lol
Serious question, why is there no sequel to this game on modern consoles today? It feels like game has so much lore and untied knots its begging for a part three.
Agree.
Take my like this make me feel to much memorys great game full nostalgic
SAME! 🥺🥺👍🏻👍🏻
so good and also so sad ending
There's still the big question since Chrono Trigger : What has happened to the broken boi Magus?
According to the DS version, he relinquished his sense of self and his memories upon hearing Schala tell him to stop trying to save her.
So Guile in the game is SUPPOSED to be Magus, having forgotten himself, but they kinda dropped that plotline in dev. There is the special ending in Chrono trigger DS that hits heavily at this, but like, too little, too late. CC is a TON of missed potential.
What the guy above me wrote is correct. This remaster could of been Square Enix's chance to add in the Magus being Guile plotline but instead just squandered it and did a lazy job at a port. So lazy they didn't care to give us HD CGI backgrounds as those would take time but I suppose increasing the polygon texture is faster while giving us poor FPS instead of the smooth FPS from the PSX version. Updating the illustration character was good.
I remember someone going "you know, Kid is Schala" and I was like "No way that's true, Schala has blue hair"
I felt pretty cheated when I found out.
I got this ending by accident on my first playthrough on the original PS1 version 😁. But sadly noone would believe me since there's no proof, but I can swear on anyone. Call it luck or whatever. This game is awesome.
It's a series of colors/series of notes, both things I've known people to have stick in their head. Plus the game kinda hangs a lamp on it in some ways if you're anal retentive and like going exploring a lot.

man rpgs are just not what they used to be. These were just true works of art. I really want to go back and experience some of the golden age PS1 again
How do you get the boss to not interrupt once every 3 casts?
If I remember right, the key is in placing all of your different color attacks in the lower tier slots. Then max out your tech level on all characters. Wait for the boss to cast something then blitz it.
It’s been a long time so I forget. But I think it might also help to wait for the boss to cast the first color of the sequence then let the rest fly right after.
right in the feels man now i want to cry
Cool! Now beat Radical Dreamers and you'll unlick the special ending text that was added by Masato Kato for the remaster.
I never Understood the story when I beat the game the first few times but Looking back now as I've beaten it Again as a middle aged adult I understand The. Reason why One I never got to play chrono cross until a decade ago and beat it multiple Times for the endings. And two All the stuff I've been through in my life. I had not yet experienced as a 13 year old kid. So when I Had beaten it again this time. a lot of the stuff the characters went through or plot lines made a lot more sense to me because of my own personal experiences which made me relate. To it even more. And understand it more now But that was the beauty about this game and I'm happy that it was my first. Official RPG game. that I played. And beat by myself self without no help. It was one hell of a summer and thats why its always in my top 3
One of the most broken combo set up is have serge use mastermune, have someone cast eagle eye on serge, have strengthen cast and then vigora afterwords. Serge wrecks everything except maybe 2 bosses
This game did not explain so many things and left players interpret things themselves. Who is Schala-Kd? Is she different from Kid?
@@iris089 she is a Character from Chrono trigger. The prequel to this game. Like this game it had multiple Endings. If you play through both of them you'd get the whole Total story.

@@TristantFrigate7098 they definitely should have put more effort into it before releasing it
Truthfully, that end was utterly magnificent. Chrono tigger and cross was NEVER about any of the main characters, not chrono, not marle, not surge, not Luca, not frog, not Robo, not Ayla, not even magus or Kidd…. It was always about girl who wished for the end of existence itself from the depths of her own misery because of the pain she had to endure from her psychotic mother and having to operate the mammon machine, tying herself to the ancient entity lavos and merging with the great beast, transforming into an eternal evil that consumes time, space, consciousness, and existence. Schala was bound to lavos becoming the time devourer, a super to even ultra dimensional being capable of undoing anything and everything. A being that is bound to infinity in a place that lies outside of space time, leeching it away. Seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, years, decades, centuries, millenniums, ages, eons, it was all pointless and that pointlessness was replaced by ceaseless agony, with the faint and distant glimmer of hope that one day, freedom might be hers….. and that one day, that one moment was all it took to finally free her from the endless suffering. This story was about schala.
So sad that there's no new content added
There's a line added by Masato Kato after you beat Chrono Cross and Radical Dreamers a text message will pop up that gives an addition ending.
Quality of this remaster looks just so bad 11:54
This game was originally released as a Playstation 1 game so there's only so much graphical improvement you can make to such an old system. That said it's not as if the Switch was made to specifically render graphically improved PS One games so i fully understand and accept that a Chrono Cross remaster specifically made for the Switch would show slight graphical "deteriorations" in some areas.
