    Diagnosis: Extreme stress and borderline exhaustion resulting from an overloaded work schedule

      There is actually a certain logic to it: Kira's a workaholic. She does demonstrate throughout the show that she is a driven person who will keep doing more, even if it's unnecessary. Just telling her to relax is pointless, because she'll just find something else to do. It has to be structured.
      It's also partly why she's religious and finds value in spirituality, as the practices of her religion (meditation, pilgrimages to monasteries and the like) provide similarly structured alternatives to work for her.

    Can I just point out how utterly PHENOMENAL the acting in this scene is? Kira's eyes blaze through frustration, then when Julian calls her out, they're enraged. Then when he asks his question, she is confused. Then after he overrules her, she's contemptuous, until he explains just what he's done. Then her eyes go to vaguely panicked, and then deceitful in an attempt to trick Julian into thinking she's okay. All that is said with her eyes alone. THAT is acting, people. It's not just the voice and the words, it's the stance, the eyes, the expression on your face that sells the act.

But Julian knows shes a fighter she will fight so he does not give her the chance.And Kira knows hes to smart to trick thats why she sighs before following.

      @bran7536 Рік тому +6

      @@shawnchong5196 That's not an acting issue, that's a writing episode. It takes quite a lot of acting chops to get that emotional. The problem is Star Trek Discovery is always in galaxy-ending situations with dear friends dying all over the place. The writers never give Burnham enough day-in-the-life scenes to establish a baseline, so Burnham seems like she's always emotional even when her reactions are relatively proportionate to her environment.
      Deep Space Nine was great at establishing that the characters had mundane lives. With a 2 minute scene they could paint a world of background characters and hobbies they didn't have the budget to show. The longer seasons definitely helped, but Strange New Worlds is making good use of the time it has.

    This shows some of the first signs of Bashir growing into his role and responsibilities as CMO. Rather than just arguing or sulking about the runabout he handles the situation well which results in the colonists obtaining their vital medical supplies and the station's effective First Officer regaining her equilibrium. Kira was always a very fiesty character and this sometimes caused her to act recklessly and make bad judgement calls. Bashir was always a good counterbalance to her character.

      ***** The problem was that many Bajorans came to view themselves as victims. Despite their mistreatment at the hands of the Cardassians, they were nonetheless dependent on them for food and shelter, even if it wasn't much. Once they left, most Bajorans didn't really know what to do without being told. They rely on the Federation to provide for them in the same way they had relied on the Cardassians. It's true that the Cardassians left Bajor barren and stripped of resources, and that puts then in a difficult situation, but it doesn't excuse the attitudes of many Bajorans.

      It's ironic that in the pilot of DS9, Kira said to Sisko that she thought that the Federation had no business there, but as it was just point out, they DID need them. Kira was so critical about the Federation and saying to Sisko that the Federation didn't like to get their hands dirty, and Sisko grabbed a piece of debris and threw it in the bin and then showed his hands to Kira to show dirty they got. Then, Kira complained to an Admiral behind Sisko's back saying she didn't approve of the way Sisko was handling matters, but the Admiral just told him about how unhappy she was that Kira interrupted a staff meeting and that Sisko had a problem (meaning Kira). I loved the way Sisko confronted Kira on that. "Go over my head again, and I'll have yours on a platter." Whoo, man! You do not want to piss off Sisko.

Effectively the CMO is the ultimate commander in a military organisation - though they keep out of command situations unless absolutely necessary to intervene.

    • @Locutus

      Not really, ultimate commander. They can't veto any deployments. They can't initiate troop deployments. They have no say what-so-ever over how the military is run. They maybe able to dictate what supplies maybe needed in soldier's backpacks, they maybe able to dictate who can return to duty after being injured, they maybe able to relieve a soldier on medical grounds, but that's it. Very limited scope.
      It's the President, Prime Minister, or Monarch that are the ultimate commanders of military.

Spock had to remove him and send him to Sickbay for a medical evaluation (where he never arrived because no one sent to Sickbay or the brig ever gets there -- Starfleet employs the honor system in its handling of the unstable and the criminal elements.)

Not even that person’s CO can override this judgement it’s the only person who can legally tell a higher up that they can’t work. However this is only if their unfit for a no. Of reasons. This is to ensure that the personnel are not under undue stress, both mental and physical.
