Sorry to argue, but I think the reflexion is not relevant: in french baroque declamation, there is no pronounced ending "s" in the middle pf a sentence or between 2 words... Only at the end of an hemistiche, a verse, or a sentence. Here if you want, you can pronouce an "s" at the end of "deserts", but with 3 consons, it would be heavy... Sorry for my mistakes in english!!
