    Flawless technique, great footwork and anticipation, mental toughness, and a cool head. Chris had it all.

    Chris , game was solid all the way around , with a fantastic backhand!

    Evert mentions about the point of contact being key for not letting opponents know whether she was going cross court or down the line. Evert was a master at this and several highly ranked women simply could not read her.

    Chris I love your instructions. You have not done one on your forehand. I love your forehand because it is the shot that has changed the most in your game. I remember when you started hitting an open stance forehand but what made your shot unique is that you switched back in forth with a closed and open stance. I would love an instructional video clip on the differences and the best time to use each. Hope you are doing well and will consider this request from a fan. Thanks!

      There is an older one that she did on another channel. Just search for it. It shows how she hits a topspin forehand vs. a flat forehand.

    Notes: similar to connors bunt/hockey slap backhand she keeps racquet head on left side of the “V” not using very much forearm/wrist to pronate. More so just lifting/shoving with elbow/tricep/shoulder.

    I was in her summer camp growing up and I remember wondering “why does she keep the face of the racket so open during the backhands? It looks like she’s slicing.”

    • @zeddeka
      @zeddeka 4 роки тому +1

      She basically is slicing. Very old fashioned technique learnt in the time of wooden racquets. You'd never teach anyone to hit the ball like that now.

      @@zeddeka I do not agree. Chris plays her normal backhand with very few topspin and defintely no slice. But she could of course also play a slice backhand.

      vanlendl1 absolutely agree! She rarely hit inderspin( one time was on the last pint - set point in second set as she hits a pace shot - backhand slice -Martina miss hit it in86 F Open .) . Her racket face is not open as it is here in this video. She’s had to slow up her stroke to teach it demonstrating to her students .she always hit flat because the ball arrives sooner allowing her to dictate a point . When she played she had a much faster stroke that her racket face was not open before or after contact.. if there is any legend to use as a model of what to do on a court it’s chriS evert. Her footwork, balance , technique were so good she could play at 45 percent husically and win with her mind.

      @@lenwelch2195 Yes, I would give a lot, if I had her two-handed backhand. I am playing a single-handed backhand. Especially, when you get older, a two-handed backhand is much better.

      That was my first reaction just seeing how she held the racquet before striking. Surprised she didn't show any real follow-through either.

    She kept the ball so deep from corner to corner......

    • @ernc1941
      @ernc1941 3 роки тому

      Yes deep, kept opponents back and on the move side to side. She wore down many an opponent this way.

    Chris's exact stroke mechanics are very much from another era, where players didn't hit with anywhere near as much top spin. You'd not teach anyone to hit exactly like that these days.

      This isn't the backhand that she used while playing but an abbreviated version meant to help beginners.

    Chris hit the 1 handwr like no 2handedbackhand player . She uses the left hand only for support , she doesn’t use it to push the ball . My tendency when I’m uptight in a match is to use more of the left hand , attesting t be more careful . ChriS pivots at hips with a long dfollow through which has an affect on pavement. ChriS. Was always very aware - of the naseline , met , and her opponent in relation to herself regardless of she was turned around in a pint chasing a lob for example. For chriS her backhand is easy .To hit the ball like she did , I couldn’t do it. I can’t pivot at hips w/o losing track of the ball .

    I notice she doesnt follow through on her strokes....but I also realized its easier for her to control the ball by puahing it wherever she wants it in the court. It worked for 18 majors!

    • @senorgato70
      @senorgato70 6 років тому +3

      Incorrect. She is clearly following through her stroke. She is not exaggerating the follow through but she is certainly following through after she makes contact with the ball, keeping her intended contact point and racquet-head position. If she had hit a topspin shot, you would see a more exaggerated follow through.

    • @jamespeyton7312
      @jamespeyton7312 5 років тому +2

      If you watch her matches, she had a much longer follow through most of the time, but could punch a pass incredibly well when needed on a grass court. Watch highlights from Wimbledon matches in the mid 80s with her prostaff racquet.

  • @dazzlingdarrenpeterson7511
    @dazzlingdarrenpeterson7511 6 років тому +2

    you can say she's not following through but KISS =KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. Think about it. Recreation players like me had a 1 handed backhand dink shot which was weak. then I saw the yevgeny kavfelnikov or whatever lock wrist two handed backhand instruction in tennis magazine. so I'd study that & stand in front of mirror. & I didn't have much of follow through but you hit it square, lock wrist, & turn shoulders, & suddenly I had a decent backhand, lol. Sergei burgers didn't follow through well & he won French open twice.

    Chrissy you need to work on your follow through.

    • @SammyJoon

      Not true. Follow through is how you teach beginners. Pros rarely finish completely over their shoulder.
