    This video took 2 full hours to film with NO SCRIPT. In fact, none of our videos ever use a script - I always speak from the heart. The G1 was amazing in having the key words projected in front of my eyes. I highly recommend them.

    Having watched many informative videos by Robert, I recently visited the Spectacle Factory in Preston, Lancashire ( UK ).
    After I attended my appointment, I was pleasantly surprised with the detailed eye test and a warm atmosphere which I did not experience in other opticians over the last 20 years.
    I found Robert and his team to be proactive by helping me shortlist the best spectacles, given that it was a tough choice from the large variety of quality spectacles that were on display.
    They also used the latest technology to help me compare and choose the best spectacles from my shortlist.
    Robert's vast experience and expertise reflects his innovative approach to give both a personal and sincere experience to every customer.

    Mind blowing 🤯content, execution and presentation. An entire seminar delivered in under an hour. I especially love the factoids on inverted bifocals for pilots, the backstory on how anti-reflective coating was invented by Zeiss, and the plethora of information about processes and materials. I’m also happy to have insight into the industry, knowing that the eyewear I invest in supports skilled artisans and not a cartel with no standards that compromises the entire industry. Outstanding video!

    What a great video! I’ve got a pair of Saville Row frames coming in and have began investigating lenses. For now looking for an everyday lens. Could you per chance discuss the impact of tints on color vision. I’m color deficient and struggle enough with making choices of what to wear, I really wouldn’t want to add to that. My current AR lenses I am told have a slight green tint and I can see that there is a difference when I take them off. I’m just not sure how it’s effecting the color I’m seeing.

    If you don’t use poly for lenses, what is the most dispensed lens material by the Spectacle Factory?
    I’d love to have CR39 for my progressive lenses, but as stated, they are not available in the US. Additionally, Trivex is nearly double the price of poly, even with insurance, and not within the budget for many people.

    Lots of great information here. Just one thing I would have liked to know before getting glass lenses... the highest abbe value is only true if you go for 1.5 index glass. I wanted to get rid of chromatic aberrations, but when I got my 1.6 index lenses I ended up with the same CA that my plastic lenses before had. 1.5 CR39 is better than that, for example.
    I'm thinking of switching to CR39 instead, but that's only available with a 1.5 index to my knowledge, and it'd be quite thick for my frame. Weight would be a benefit, not as noticeable CA and it would be safer to wear too. But how are the other optical properties? Is it as sharp as glass? As clear?

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  Місяць тому

      Not all glass is the same. Zeiss glass in 1.9 is incredibly clear and thin. We've made them for many clients all over the world

    Robert, a wonderful video in many respects: extraordinarily exhaustive; a fine speaking performance; and an excellent example of the possibilities of G1. Congratulations. I would like to make two suggestions. In your coverage of bifocals you missed an opportunity to mention the Shamir Duo, which is supposed to make the boundary between segments invisible. Also, in a different part of the video, you mentioned Fresnel. The correct pronunciation of this Frenchman's name is fr'nell.

    Why would my optician continually recommend polycarbonate for my lenses? When I asked about Trivex, they said it was outdated. I really like my optician and generally they are pretty well informed. Is there a good reason they might recommend polycarbonate, and/or what specific details about polycarbonate are so bad, is it mostly just the abb value? I definitely have not given the impression that I need safety glasses, they just seem to default to Polycarbonate. My prescription is about -3 in each eye, thats the main part of the prescription that impacts the material used right?

    • @2Bluzin
      @2Bluzin Місяць тому +1

      Poly seems to be the default in America from most opticians. It's also the cheapest, and also the worst in my option. For very low prescriptions it's probably ok but anything higher they get really thick and really extreme chromatic aberrations around the edges.

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  Місяць тому +1

      High margin, as I mentioned in this video. Polycarbonate is about 20 years older than Trivex, so calling Trivex outdated seems... strange. Polycarb has other disadvantages such as high scratch vulnerability and chemical reactivity which means they fail more often.

    • @Lightja_
      @Lightja_ Місяць тому

      @@thespectaclefactory Thanks for the answer and thanks for the video! Since I wasn't specific and defaulted to their recommendation, maybe they were trying to save me money. I'll have to see what the cost difference is.
      They pay a Zeiss lab for lenses, so I'm not sure if they profit on the margins. I find that they usually have good reasons for their defaults, but I think most people aren't interested in the details of why, so they aren't used to explaining it. I'll just have to ask for more info!

    "Um .... "Made in China". Time for a refresh. Some of the finest products manufactured today are made in China. Granted, many cheap products are also made in China (you get what you pay for at the bottom end). The dreaded Luxotica et al do a great deal of manufacturing in China, particularly lenses and components shipped to Italy, and hundreds of millions of people benefit from this, maybe billions. Like Japan and Korea before it, China has stepped-up the supply chain, and faster. There is high resistance to Chinese brands in the West, much of it based on politics and racism, so the popular concept of "Made in China", like "Made in Japan" before it is "cheap & shoddy". Reality is different. Anyway, great informative video, you are awesome.
