I had a great conversation with my Uber driver Razvan Sdrobis on May 11, 2024, who explained to me why Bucharest was one of the safest cities in Europe. He was one of the most knowledgeable and articulate drivers I had met. So after the completion of my ride, I decided to interview him, so that he may share some of his insights with the world.
I thought I always got particularly smart taxi drivers in Romania, but this is a boss taxi driver.

Yeah, in Romania you have to be overqualified for any job. They require 30yrs of experience out of 35 of life.
He's an uber driver, not a taxi driver. Uber is mostly done as a side gig, or full time, depends, you make decent money through apps such as uber or food delivery like tazz or glovo.
One of my friends was a major in the Gendarmerie (which is like the equivalent of the carabinieri in Italy, National Guard in Russia, Canadian Mounted Police and so on, but thing is, you still need to go through the Police Academy to be an officer in this structure). He would also do Uber from time to time (he had 3 kids to raise and he wanted nice vacations for the whole family twice a year), he enjoyed it and he made good money by going out in the evenings for like 3-5 hours, 3-4 times a week.
One time a Romanian reper say ,,we speak 5 language , we can pilot your flights but we cant carry your garbage,,...was a message to Europe, because when you say Romanian , they copare us with gipses!!!
And yea , on this country will see a lot of ingineur or doctor , or smtg else , doing taxi to make some more money. Its hard to be Romanian but is the most lovely country in the world
