The British are masters of suspense. They do not need 8 killings per minute like US films to entertain. One of my all time favorite movies. Spectacular!
There was also the 6 part BBC series Quatermass and the Pit. It aired over December - January 1958 - 59. Each part was 30 minutes. The BBC series was slower moving, but explained a bit more. The movie has a tighter, faster pace, and is better at maintaining interest and suspense. The other difference is that in the BBC series, the “pit” was open air - essential a big hole on the ground. In the movie, the pit is underground, giving the movie a claustrophobic and creepier feel. Plus the movie has Barbara Shelley - a real added bonus. Thank you for posting this clip.
The scene with the police constable and Quatermass in the derelict house. Still gives me the shivers. Brilliant story and cast. This is my favourite Hammer horror.
My parents took us to the drive in to see this when it came out, I was fascinated! Kind of had a thing for grasshoppers after that. My sister was a little disturbed by it though. I want to see again, since the last time I saw it was 50+ years ago.
A classic example of what can be done on a low budget when the writing is good. The writing and acting in this movie - known as Five Million Years to Earth in the USA - is top notch. There are some creepy moments that are terrific.
I got the Blu-ray of this the other day, and watched it on my home theater. Even after 50 years, it's still one of the most gripping sci-fi films ever. One of the extras on the Blu-ray is an interview with Julian Glover (Colonel Breen). He gives a delightfully incisive description of working on the film, and the excellence of the story.
Which begs the question, why does anyone have to pay to see a 67 year old film? There are thousdands of great films that one can stream for free. This should be among them.
Removing it was stupid, so much wheat and chaff and what do they do? Throw out the wheat, this and the censorship is getting old. Maybe its time to move on.

Outstanding movie. No computerized special effects just a good story!😁
I saw this film as a young kid, it blew my socks off. I slept with the lights on for 2 weeks!

One of the greatest premises for a science fiction movie or any movie ever

Turned me Mother on to this film...She loved it...She would call me late at night...Quarterman is on at 11:00 pm...
This story in this movie is way before its time and one of my very favorites.
5 Million Years to Earth
Beautiful barbra shelly
As a kid watching this movie it really scared me,I had nightmares for weeks.
Saw this on a B&W TV in '69 or '70. Hadn't realized how good the production values were seeing it on the small screen.
I remember watching this a kid - it scared the life out of me!
Me too. My parents couldn't answer my scared questions.
Same here
Interesting that the subway station is Hobb's End. In folklore, Old Hob (Hobb) was the devil.
Beautifully done masterpiece. One of my favorites all time.
Once upon a time - until added to a playlist- the entire film was here on UA-cam. It is very strange that this very telling film has been taken down.
It’s because it’s still popular , even with younger generations , My son is 26 and he loves this film
I still love this film!

I remember this movie too and would love to see in soon but I don't have a home theater, lol
Where the heck did you buy the Blu-ray version of this film?

By the way the music is great - augmenting every creepy and scary moment.

Esta película la vi cuando era niño todavía y me asustó mucho, pero es una de las mejores que he visto del género. Saludos desde chile.

It's a beautiful print but it's more an intro than a film.
