One of the reasons that Mick is charming is he keeps trying to show off, but he isn't a macho idiot - he just wants everyone to think of him as a larger than life character, the kind of person everyone is always telling stories about. He doesn't buy into his own legend, he just has fun with it.
He's actually quite humble. He's charming because he has deadly skills, but only uses them when he needs to. He's dangerous but he's also a gentleman. Charisma is double sided like that.
11:47 It's not a baby crocodile, It's a goanna, a monitor lizard. Notice the lack of scutes (bony bumps) that you see on crocodile and alligators. Even baby crocs have those. What was on the fire was a smaller cousin of the Komodo Dragon.

This classic romantic comedy was a huge hit in 1986 and is still as funny as ever. I saw this in the theater when it came out, and the whole theater burst into cheers and applause at the ending, probably the greatest final scene ever in a romantic comedy. Paul Hogan became known in the U.S. for a very popular series of commercials he did for the Australia Tourism Board. He presented the same sort of character, a super-friendly regular guy who invited you to visit him in Australia. He capitalized on that popularity to make this movie.
Dasha, I would be interested in hearing your own story one day, about the challenges you experienced of settling in Canada after living in Russia. All the best from New Zealand.

This movie drinks _very_ heavily from the well of fish-out-of-water humor.
The lead actess and Paul Hogan got married in real life. He was 20 years older than her. Must be a real charming bloke! They stayed married for a quarter of a century as well.
That's good, because it's not a cop-out. I genuinely don't know their story, their situation, not how and why things went down the way it did. Until I do, I don't feel comfortable jumping into any particular position on it.

Another great film that showcases the “fish out of water” theme (and one I KNOW you would enjoy) is called “The World’s Fastest Indian”. The movie is “based on a true story” about an elderly man from New Zealand who builds a racing motorcycle out of an old Indian motorcycle. He makes the trip to the U.S. to race it and meets quite a few people who’s lives are touched by the “kindhearted” visitor from Down Undah. Great movie that stars Anthony Hopkins. I’m SURE you’d love it.
As a Australian from that era this film put us on the map and gave Australia a huge tourism boost, great reaction Dasha and trust me you will enjoy the second film even more. Cheers
Australia is the only country I'm aware of whose tourism bureau said, a few months after this movie was released, "Hey, it's great that you all want to visit, but there are too many of you and we wish some of you would stay home."
Mick Dundee was such a charming and friendly individual that New Yorkers don't even mind when he has to walk on their heads trying to get back over to Sue - they just let him! 😊
For epic Australian cowboy movies, 1983's "Man From Snowy River" & "Return To Snowy River" are classics, with Kirk Douglas as two very different old brothers in a heckuvan Aussie "Western"! 😉
Before you go running off to the Australian outback you might want to know that it can get to over 120 degrees F (51 degrees C) in the shade...and there is no shade. As my southern relatives might say, "Hotter than a four-balled tom cat"
7:20 "There should be a law against shooting kangaroo." There was no law when this movie was made, but about a decade or so later, Australia made them a protected species, so it's been illegal since then.
