Glad i found your channel. I am on a similar journey , did my mba a few years ago, currently working in analytics in a cpg company and want to pivot to data science at a tech company too. Georgia tech is a high quality program and you can learn a lot from it

I think you applying to data science position in supply chain companies/orgs is the best idea, your current experience should give you an advantage! :) good luck! 🍀

Hi Soph! 👋 I was in a very similar situation both 6 years ago (got into Berkeley's MIDS, but found it to be too expensive so I did an in-person data science bootcamp) as well as 2 years ago (with no proper undergrad STEM degree, I knew that I needed to go back for a CS grad program). I'm currently completing my 4th CS course at Georgia Tech's OMSCS program with a focus in ML. You mentioned that you might go back to community college for your prereqs. If you were to apply to GT, which prereqs do you need...for OMSA or OMSCS?
Prior to applying to GT, I found it to be way more time efficient / cost effective to complete these prereqs using online education platforms (e.g. Coursera & edX) than community college. I only had a Stats / Probability course + AB Calc from high school under my belt so I ended up taking Linear Algebra (edX), Intro to Java (edX), Data Structures & Algorithms (edX) & Discrete Math (Coursera) in less than 10 months for under $2K. This was more than enough to apply / be prepared for GT OMSCS (Discrete Math is not a required prereq, but I read that it's very helpful for the final grad course everyone takes: Intro to Graduate Algorithms). Side note: I also applied to the University of Washington's CS PMP and they accepted these prereqs as well. I was admitted at UW, but I deferred it as the program is x4-x5 the cost of GT's, but I might want to take an in-person class that GT doesn't currently offer.
I'm 100% thankful I did these prereqs prior to starting at GT as I've succeeded in all my courses, I'm currently taking AI for Robotics (basic calculus & linear algebra) and I plan to take Deep Learning next 📚.
Good luck & if you have questions about prereqs / grad school, let me know 🙂

Thanks for such a thoughtful comment - I truly appreciate it! I’m shooting for OMSCS and I noticed the peeps on reddit are strongly recommending community college over coursera/ edx. I’m unsure if there truly is a difference but I’m going for CC since I may be able to get a recommendation letter from a professor. Best of luck in your program and thanks again!!!

I just attended (this week) Georgia Tech OMSA program overview and admission webinar! I believe they have one next month that you should definitely check it out! SUPER HELPFUL and the admissions team is great!

IMHO the only advantage of a college degree in this kind of field is the connections and alumni network so the degree must be from a top tier. Is there at least one product data science example on your github from data to conclusion? Best of luck!!
