I was shocked when I saw Horikawa Seseragi Park since that is my neighborhood! I use those ginkgo trees as a barometer for how autumn is progressing. Kyoto National Garden is also one of my favorite spots for autumn leaves in Kyoto because of the giant ginkgo trees and the fact that it is so large it never feels crowded. The wall in Kyoto Goen is very familiar. I think we passed it when we went to the Imperial Palace last year. Kyoto is still my favorite but i dont want to add to overtourism, not yet 😅

I'm not sure what I enjoy more - the locations or the lack of tourist at those locations. It's nice to see Kyoto has some quieter spots! But I must confess, I do not enjoy walking on the pebble pathways of the palace garden! The crunching noise bothers me (not to mention the stones in my shoe)

時間さえあれば御苑だけで1日過ごせますね。
もちろん御所や閑院宮邸や拾翠亭なんかを見学してもいいんですが、今は角札しかない近衛邸跡や明治天皇が生まれた中山邸跡なんかを散策して歴史の厚みに浸ったり環境省が管理する見事な樹木を観察したりベンチに座って読書したり音楽を聴いたり。
冬にはちょっと辛いかな。
近くにある相国寺は広大で見応えあるし、承天閣美術館は禅や茶道の名品があるからおすすめ。
虎屋のカフェも休むのにいい。
お香の老舗の松栄堂も御苑の近くです。
本当に御苑でゆっくり一日過ごすもいいなと思います（仰る通り真冬は厳しいかもしれませんが）。
