Bought mine in 16, a left over 2015 model nobody wanted 'cause it was short and had no windows. When I saw it I knew I had to have it. I used it as a work truck until this year when then engine went after 160k of hard work use. Good luck trying to find new drive train parts for any Promaster. I bought a wrecker engine from CA and just installed. I retired this year and van is now totally empty, ready for its next life. Funny, my first van was a Trademan 200 I drove from L.I. to Houston at 18 in 1978. I love my stubby!

You might consider putting the porta potty into an ottoman on casters. The ottoman will hide it and provide a comfortable seat. From there it’s easy to be seated at the galley for preparing a meal, or to add a second person around a shared Lagoon table with the pax seat. Jarrod did something like this on one of his low roof GHOST builds. It makes the low roof living much easier on your neck.

    I absolutely LOVE this concept!!
My thoughts/Ideas for the Maxi me:
-Make it 4 weather suitable (suitable for EVERY customer out there. Full isolation, water tanks inside)
-Make it as stealth as possible
-Side manual awning (or however you spell it)
    -Fridge/freezer?
(I would get rid of the dresser and put a fridge next to the bed side and a toilet that comes out to the passenger seat there. And countertop on the top)
-Windows? Just one might be nice to wake up to, on the side door maybe

Definitely want a narrower bed to use space elsewhere.
Cushions and panels under bed could either slide forward to make a double bed, or move to make couch: e.g. move one panel down for seat, move/tilt hinged panel to form backrest.
Utilities can be in garage under bed/couch or wherever you think best. Presumably there would be room for a small folding gravel bike.

This is getting closer to what I want, however, I'd love to see HR build out a mid-roof Transit 130, which is only 18ft long but with 72" unfinished interior height. For a single traveller is such a wide bed necessary, or is it just an afterthought that it might just be sold to a couple? If it is tailored to a shorter cliente who has no problems sleeping lengthwise IMO giving them a less wide bed and more 'kitchen' would make the van more liveable and practical.

A very roomy layout while keeping it short and easy to park. Love it. Although I think roof should be higher since it does not fit into a garage anyway, why not stand up in it, eh? That garage is so roomy! Lots of space for toys or dog bed and water tanks. You could also have a wardrobe area there for clothes to hang on a pull out system from rear end. A slide out wardrobe, just to be different. That slide out tray with a hanging rack could be for wet suits, swim suits, sweaty clothes to dry out under the bed or with rear doors open for air. On the other side, a slide out tray for a single bike.

I have one of these ( Citroen Relay L2H1 in the UK, same low body shell just 400mm longer) and yes we are 5ft4 but it really is the perfect van. We have siwvel cab seats and lagun table for dining, a 6ft couch along the drivers side that becomes 2 single beds, 4ft rear galley with closet opposite containing his n hers wardrobes and drawers. The closet door closes off the rear 4ft for private changing space and using the cassette toilet. And before building it, we watched Humbleroad and learned to cardboard it out to see if it would work (thanks George)

I like the idea of the maxi-me. For some dumb reason, I like the low roof 118” WB Promaster. I just love the low stance euro versions of this van with the lower rear end stance. (They use smaller wheels and tires plus only single leaf rear spring.) now that we finally got the better looking front end and a new updated dash, we are cool.
Do you have a slick roof configuration? I don’t like all the “stuff” RV guys love to install on the roof. I want a clean slick roof. (I bust out laughing when people talk about their “stealth” RV vans when they are loaded up with solar panels, a/c units, luggage racks, trunks, antennas and what all else they are putting up there on the roof and think they are fooling anybody while they are parking somewhere in ‘Stealth mode’. )

Just so people feel a little beyond basic needs, what about a decent projector and pulldown screen that people can attach a Roku or Amazon Fire Stick? They can use the data from their phones or have one of those satellite internet services to stream moviens.
Due the length you may not have the room but given some people may walk standing in this van, would you consider a hidden or not fixed shower like the Story Teller vans?
Maybe an outside shower? Either on the driver side like most RVs, or between the rear doors, with some kind of curtain.

I've been full timing in a low roof Sprinter for almost a year and to anyone here looking for build ideas, I HIGHLY recommend maximizing your seating. Unless you're really short, hunching will kill your back.
I recently decided to start my build over, so I ripped out the platform bed and started building a futon. I'm also going to have a bench seat along with the factory swivel chairs. Should be plenty of spots to park my butt!
Also, I'm thinking about adding kneeling boards or some kind of fold out kneeling chair at the kitchen counter. Anything to prevent from hunching. Humble Road, maybe you have some ideas for that!

It was your innovative thinking and re-engineering how things are traditionally executed in a camper van that initially drew me to your channel. I challenge you to think deeply about the layout of this van. Unlike minivans, it doesn't require as much sacrifice. Okay, kiddos, what were the keywords in today lesson? Frankly, it's as George always stresses... first OPTIONS (echo... Options, options...), K.I.S.S, QUALITY, LIVABILITY, AFFORDABILITY, EXPANDABILITY, finally were back to what? Repeat after George... OPTIONS (echo... Options, options...). Thanks, George. Keep on Truckin'

Get rid of the dresser and put a shower put a bump in the ceiling, biuld c style waterproof back wall two shower curtains on each side, that when pulled close overlap eachother from the top curved rods, it's a open plan. Cute for a couple with no kids.

How about lifting the roof over the sink or stove area? I’ve seen some vans that have this option. This way there’s some place you can actually stand up when you’re 6 foot two. We’re talking about 2 to 3 feet wide, so people can put their pants on or cook their food. 🖖

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  Рік тому +2

I'm not a fan of cutting away too much of the roof, along with the support struts. Fan and air conditioner holes are one thing... Consider the 136 wheelbase high roof Promaster. It's the next logical step up.

I’ve seen some of them that will close when you’re driving and you can open them when you’re cooking or standing still. Seen this in some of the versions of the Ford vans.

Or a nice opening skylight above sink/cooktop (when you tall people really want/need to stand). I’m only 5’. The height is already great. 😂. But, I love an opening skylight!
