My friend and I were on a quest to learn German when we came across the Schnappi song, which aside from being alarmingly cute wouldn't get out of my head for the next few days. I learned it so that when it played in my head it would actually have words. Then I wrote about the language, because that's what I do.

Yay! Schnappi! Yeah. It stays in your head for sure. I'm American but I caught it on TV in Sorrento, Italy, about 10 years ago. I thought I'd imagined it and when I returned to the states a couple years later, I was on a mission to find it. ThankGod for youtube. I heard it was top 10 in Australia. Schnappi!!!

My dad once did a job in Hamburg and I was, like, four years old or something and he got me this German album full of German children songs or something and this was the only song I liked from that. I've recently remembered a lot of stuff from when I was around 4/5 years old and the name "Snappy the Crocodile" popped into my head and I had no idea what it was until I found this. A huge wave of nostalgia hit me in the face and i'm so glad I found this.

Hi Larry, great job on this song! I’d like to learn to play it for my kids. do you have tab or could you do a guitar lesson for schnappi on UA-cam?

Thank you! I don't have a tab, but the chords are just G, D, and C - try playing those along with it and you'll get a feel for which is where. The plucking pattern is just bass-chord-slap-chord, though you could just strum or omit the string slaps. Then on some transitions I walk up the scale from the G to the C (so just the notes G A B C). Sounds like I substituted a D7 or a Cadd9 once or twice but you don't have to. Hope that helps, me me know if you have any questions!
