- During this pandemic time when many Singaporeans in Japan are unable to travel home, a small cozy café located in Tokyo becomes the “Home Away From Home”, where one can dig into handmade black chai tow kway and sip on Milo Dinosaur while exchanging Singlish conversations with the owners and fellow customers.
“Little Merlion” is run by Singaporean couple - Mark and Melissa. When Covid-19 hit and Mark lost his hospitality job, he saw it as an opportunity instead to build something new together with his wife in the foreign land. Akadot TV, in collaboration with the Singapore Embassy in Tokyo, invited them to share about their journey.

@@luishoon9738 Oh so lucky!!!
Was rare to see Singapore cafes/restaurants in Japan and Korea back then but so nice and touching to see more nowadays. Hope Japanese and Koreans are more exposed to Singapore's amazing food culture. Truly, despite the long distance, food connects everyone 🙂👍
@xiaop chen ah. if via land delivery, takes only about 1 day. it was delivered via a refrigerated truck with the salmon changing to smoke salmon though. All the vegs, sauces, peanuts etc were in tip top condition when they arrived.
Really nice to see people chasing and building their dreams overseas. Would love to visit them when pandemic is over!

So happy to have found this!
We lived in Singapore for 6 years and came back to Japan last year. We’re so homesick for Singapore!
I’ll definitely visit your cafe soon!
I’m always listening to Kiss 92 while washing dishes!
If this "Tokyo Little Merlion" were to be launched in its native Singapore, as well as in western cities such as London, New York, it will be hit. I like the way the food is presented.
This young couple surely working real hard n with their passion ..surely HUAT
A Singaporean friend of mine shared this with me. I'm Japanese, but I have some Singaporean friends and traveled to see them every year before the pandemic. I really miss them and Singapore's local foods! It's a little bit far from my place but I'll definitely visit your cafe after the situation gets a little bit better. All the best to Mark and Melissa in Tokyo!

I love this, I'm planning to open my own Singaporean restaurant in Tokyo as well. The popular one at Ebisu is not up to standard, sadly.
Go for it 👍

The guy is so soft spoken like I'd feel guilty to even speak louder if he's around
I think adding Mee Rebus would’ve been a good choice to attract the locals there. I think they’ll love the complexity of the gravy.
Watched this video after my friend shared it on fb!
Will definitely visit it! Quite near where I’m staying too! Missing good singapore food and that Milo Dino I saw in the video!

Wah seeing Singapore cafes/restaurants open more in Korea & Japan, so nice to see! It allows SG food culture to be more exposed to the Northeast Asians 🙂👍🙂👍
There is not so called Singaporean food! Its Malay Food.
@@Adventour04 Ur not entirely wrong, I've lived in Singapore for 5 years and lived in Malaysia for 3 years so yeah I get your point 🙂 But 95% of Koreans and Japanese don't know the history of local food so we can't teach ALL of them 😅
Aft the pandemic, shd I go Japan again, will definitely visit both of u.. Wishing u all the best..

Reminds me of the time when I was home-food sick in Sapporo and bump into “Kopitiam Singapore Restaurant” there which serves local food.
Will be sure to drop by and support when I am back in Tokyo :) Meanwhile, all the best to your business and stay safe!
such a nice little shop with a beautiful story. comfort food is what we need when you're far away from home.
Keep going , Bro.. Keep bro. ... Always remember...Good things comes to those who wait.. Best things comes to those who do!!
It's a hard time especially for people who run restaurants. We hope the situatuon will get better soon after the majority of poeple get their vaccines in Tokyo.
Let us vist your restaurant in the future✨
Was sent to Japan ( Sendai & Kadoma ) in the 1990s for OJT on their CNC machines as my former company bought some and needed some of us to learn how to operate and maintain them. Tried cooking some of SG dishes because we were kind of homesick and the cooked food in Japan were kind of expansive. The hardest thing to get are the local SG sauces like garlic chili, sweet soya sauce and others.
Seee you all soon. Good luck!
Hello👋, I'm so very proud of you both 👏
i will come over when i go to tokyo!
Well done! Best of luck from Brooklyn.
Amazing
Happy National Day to the both of you!
I wish all the success in your café
