Can you tell diggy to start answering my calls. My uncle is very sick and dignan has the only cure but instead of giving it to my uncle he keeps putting it on his body and letting various wildlife eat off of it
I'd like to take this opportunity to celebrate the music of Crystal Castles, it was like a cultural, life-changing event in Toronto. You'd go to a friend's house and Alice Practice would be blasting, go to a girl's and she'd be listening to Crimewave on repeat, go to their live shows and Alice herself would jump into the crowd and mosh with you. Every rooming house or party had a wannabe dj playing their stuff or trying to be like them and even the people who didnt go to clubs or raves knew their songs. If you were a teenager in Toronto in '08 you know what I'm talking about. I grieve for what Ethan did to her and his other accusers, CC was such an interactive explosion in my youth.
Even in Portugal! They were my absolutely favorite band for like 3 years, and I saw them at least 4 times. One of those gigs is to this day my favorite concert, I was at the front row and Alice was on top of the barrier at my spot for half of the gig. Of all the lists I saw at the end of 2019 of the "the best albums of the 2010s", most failed to acknowledged "Crystal Castles II", which is a shame, that record was absolutely fire when it came out. Ethan is a terrible person, but the legacy of CC and Alice shouldn't be erased because of what he did. Glad to find someone who remembers what they meant. I can only imagine how much more intense and crazy it was in Toronto :)
@@trtrsqr4666 I was also really struck by those decade lists at the end of 2019 not including CC at all. Ethan's actions are inexcusable, but to just pretend like they weren't one of the biggest and most influential acts of the 2010s was really disappointing. It's kind of hard to listen to them now knowing what happened, but I can't just pretend to not like some of my most formative music.
@@shamus8687 thank you, that's kind! It was your great comment which prompted me to write mine, so thank you for that as well! I'll take the opportunity to go back to the memories of my first Crystal Castles concert. It was July 2009, and I had known about them for maybe a couple of months. I was really liking their debut album, but I was actually discovering a ton of great music at the time, like Manic Street Preachers early 90s output, so I wasn't giving Crystal Castles my full attention yet. They were announced to this festival that I used to go to every year, and when the schedule dropped I saw that they would be playing (in the secondary stage) right in the middle of the Metallica set (in the main stage). I liked Metallica a lot at the time, but this would be the third year in a row I would be seeing them, so it was a no-brainer - I was definitely going to check out Crystal Castles. But I was young and energetic and full of strategies to move through a festival crowd, so I decided to watch what I could of Metallica as well. I looked through Metallica setlists of previous shows, did the math on the starting time of both bands, and figured how many songs of Metallica I could watch before moving to the other stage. And so I did. Don't remember the exact details, but I think I watched at least half-hour of Metallica, in a great spot in the middle of the crowd, then 10 minutes or so before CC scheduled starting time I turned around and started moving to the smaller stage, where again I got to a great spot (not front row though). The show started and what followed was about 45/50 minutes of absolute electronic chaos. As I've said, I wasn't an academic researcher into CC yet, so through all of the madness I only managed to recognize a snippet of a song (probably Crimewave), and everything else merged into a sonic, violent, digital soundscape. It was absolutely fantastic, just pure 8-bit ecstasy, Alice screaming her lungs out in-between whiskey gulps. It ended, I was drenched in sweat and barely breathing, but feeling such raw vitality as few times in my life. I contemplated on the awesomeness of it and on how I had just discovered for sure my new favourite band, as I run back to the main stage, and still catched the last half-hour of Metallica. From that point forward, the anticipation for Crystal Castles II, both the album and the gig (the one I talked about in my first comment) was really intense and ever-growing. What a time to be alive, and what amazing things to have experienced. P.S.: that second gig was supposed to have happened before the release of the album, in mid-April 2010, but it was actually pushed back a couple of weeks due to the notorious Eyjafjallajökull eruption in Iceland; so when the gig did happen, I had probably listened to the full album 20 times and knew every nuance in it (in that regard, polar opposite to my first live CC experience), which contributed to how unbelievably great that show was.
SURF GANG really going up and I love it! Been on them since SGV1 in 2021. Between Snow Strippers getting a Fantano review and an Uzi feature and EvilGiane getting prod credits with artists like Kendrick, Baby Keem, Carti, and Rocky it seems like SURF GANG is really blowing up RN.
EvilGiane and Harrison also produced a song for Uzi, although that is still unreleased. Uzi also was at a party organised by Surf Gang and promoted it, so I'd guess we're getting some more collaborations between them in the future

This is absolutely insane to see, how much they’ve grown. I remember when they had fewer than 100 followers on SoundCloud in March of 2022; brings me so much joy to see them succeed!
Crim3s, Brutalismus 3000, E_DEATH, and Somewhere Special are other artists worth shouting out in this lane (in case you were thinking crystal castles/alice glass was the only thing comparable). But Snow Strippers are the absolute best at it imo
I'd love to see your take on Jam Baxter, criminally underexposed uk rapper. Fetch The Poison and Obscure Liquor are two of the best UK hiphip records since Jehst first dropped, but no-one seems to know who he is.

Most of his tracks are in a very repetitive synth-pop genre but he has those songs where it's more electroclash, techno and even 8-bit with high-pitched vocals.
