I love the school items. The school yearbooks will be so much fun to look through. My husband graduated from high school in Alaska. He was an army brat. He went to 13 different schools before graduation. He is older than I am and one day he mentioned that he didn’t get his yearbook when he graduated. So that year for his birthday he got his yearbook. It took me a lot of phone calls because we live in Texas. The school he graduated from is no longer there. But I called around and found one left from that year 1972. Now this was in the year 1999 when I was doing this. He was extremely shocked and grateful that I got his yearbook for him. I was so excited to have been able to get it for him.

What a nice thing to do for your husband. My husband was stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks at that time and our son in law is currently stationed in Juneau with our daughter and granddaughter. Coast Guard. Beautiful place, Alaska.

One day I came upon a group of excited people going through boxes, finding all kinds of great things. Then, out came a young lady screaming STOP....I am moving and you are taking my things. I will never forget that scene.

Renee, I volunteer at our towns museum. We have a school room. We take in all kinds of school things old and new. I don't understand people throwing away history. Donate it. Glad you saved it. ❤🇺🇸👏

You HAD a GREAT DAY finding items from your town and high school! I LOVE how excited you get when you find things that make you SO HAPPY! If the glue in the brown bottle was TACKY GLUE, it's great for repairing books that the cover or the binding has torn lose. It sticks great and dries clear. I'm not sure if the bag that you got had the papers/booklets from older appliances, but if they did they most times sell great on eBay! THANKS AGAIN for SHARING!!

My philosophy of what I find is what I am supposed to have is the same as yours. I get so excited when I find something I need just when I need it. God provides.
Mason jar factoid: when bought NEW, jars come with lids and screwbands. Jars and screwbands are kept until they show signs of cracks, chips, rust or dents that may effect the seal. The lids are the separate flat disks with the rubberized seal and are a one time use. When I was actively canning, I always bought jars at yard sales etc. The screwbands and lids are cheap and abundant. It is never wise to reuse any other type of jar (mayo, jelly) for canning as they lack the physical integrity of a canning jar. Leave those for your buttons and marbles. 😉
On those fruit baskets there is Dr Pol vet and he uses them for splints for dogs and cats, he breaks them down and uses the slats in them. He also said they were very hard to find anymore. He can fix any animal when other vets can't. Very knowledgeable. Great finds especially the Christmas Stencils. And yearbooks and framed old school photos. Glad they got saved from the dump.

That is a beautiful saying! I would love to hear it with the lovely Scottish accent. I love the Scottish accent. I was in Scotland with my mom in September 2010. The trip was my birthday gift from my mom and dad. Sadly that fabulous week in Edinburgh was the last vacation I had with my mom, she passed a few years ago. I would love to visit Scotland again. You are lucky to live in such a beautiful country.

Hi Renee, if you put the military yearbooks on the market they will probably sell. Having served myself (training in Bainbridge, MD) 1960 and 61, and married for 57 years to a Navy retiree those yearbooks are pretty special. Exciting finds for you today!
I sell on Ebay and I've sold odds and ends of militaria to a lot of veterans who were happy to get it. I've never seen one of those yearbooks; most families don't let them loose!

IF you can find them, they can sell for up to $3/jar but I’m in a very rural area where people will pay well to get ready for the next season, considering the huge shortage in stores AND online.

Thank you Renee for Sharing yet another Curbside shopping adventure. I agree with you about the things that were not yet on the curb. I am bold though, if I found something that I liked I would go and knock on door and stand 6 feet back and ask them if the items were set for trash pickup. Seriously I love how you are so knowledgeable about things like this a d very considerate!

I'm glad you found so much to make you happy . My high school became a middle school for four years and then changed back to a high school . In order to accommodate the students that lived in the area age wise . I recently went back to purchase a year book . The lady at the bookstore laughed at me . She said we don't have anything from when this was a high school the first time . She said all the trophies in the display case and all the records were destroyed . No one was allowed to keep anything . A state official over seen the burning of the paper and the trophies were crushed . Student records were put in a database . To many people wanted to sell the items and expected them for free . So couldn't make everyone happy, so the decision was made to make no one happy . Bought my year book on line .
The large fruit bushel baskets would sell especially for this fall season.
Renee, when I was little we did not have spray snow for the stencils. We used a metal can of “glass wax” that was liquid and we would dab it on the window stencil and it would dry white, it was used to clean window. We did not have spray window cleaner. That was from the 1950s. Such great memories.

Hey there, stone house, NICE!!!! With the COVID, going on, there is a need for some folks who can, that need mason jars; lids can be bought maybe, so many shortages out there now. I get why you left them, better safe then sorry.

Renee. Im glad you show so much interest in finding history thrown out. Local and far away. Do you keep them and save them as a collage or sell them at a certain point in time? So much interesting things you can do finding what's being left to waste. Great finds for sure!!👍🙂
Renee, the rolls of heat bond allow you to transfer a design to an article of clothing. If you liked part of the Native American design on the bandana you can cut it out and bond it to the collar,cuffs,and pocket of a shirt. Both the shirt and bandana need to be washed and air dried. Fabric softener prevents the heat bond from sticking. So you would iron on the heat bond to the wrong side of the bandana. Then cut out your design,take the paper backing off the heat bond, and iron the designs on your shirt. Use no steam. Use steady pressure with the iron not back and forth. I have many things embellished this way. Some I made 20 years ago and the designs are still stuck. Heat bond iui s used for hemming,RIP repair,etc. I made curtains for my van and didn't see any of it.
the old wood skis can bring nice money, $75-150 out here in Montana. Great vintage decor for anything from a rustic cabin to a multi million dollar McMansion. They are hard to find in decent condition.

Nice old finds. I love old items from the 50s or earlier. I would have left the bottles in the yard too. That didn’t look like trash. And it’s not like you don’t have enough stuff, lol. And did you hear you say “y’all guys” at the end? Lol. I might have just been hearing thing, but I love the idea that y’all spreading across the country :-D

Great finds. I graduated in 1955 from Bay County Hi ., in Panama City, Fl. I guess my memories will be in trash someday. So sad.

Those yearbooks and class photos are priceless pieces of history! I treasure the books I have from my high school, Polytechnic, San Francisco...the school closed in the late 1970's, the 1914 building was demolished for the sake of housing. My collection covers 1922-1960 [the year I graduated]. I also have my mom's yearbooks from Mission High [1936] and Everett Jr. High [1932]...she was cute! Both schools are still alive and well here in S.F. My dad was also in the Everett yearbook, as well as Mission, same years. I also have my baby book. Mom sure kept records and photos of her "Bundle of Joy".
I think baby books might be a thing of the past now, with all of this technology, one probably just goes to Instagram or Facebook. Hope that you are safe out there in California!
@@PaperandMoose Thank you for your concern. Things are improving, I can see the ocean from my rear windows and partial blue skies with real clouds! The first time in nearly a week and a half! They are still fighting those blazes...so sad about our northern neighbor, Oregon. I treasure my baby book record...mom sure kept those records...wah-wah!

I am concerned about the diplomaS. If you sold them, they could be part of false identities, even though the graduates have passed away. I am.certain you will.find a good place for them. I just had to voice my concern.
I love the old Christmas decor you find. It is from my time, quite often, sometimes childhood and sometimes with my family of a husband and 3 boys. Brings back memories and feelings.
Canning jars and lids are like finding gold nuggets. If there had been a free sign on that stuff, those would have been gone. It would be nice if someone from the schools would buy the yearbooks. Have fun researching them. My 4th grade teacher also had my mom, two of my aunts and my older sister. She always called me by one of their names but couldn't remember my name.

The native American material is from the 1990's because I had those exact materials squares to make quilts, pillows or hang them on your wall.
My Home Economics teacher taught my mom also. (and other parents) She would call us her Grand-students.
My son had several of the same teachers I had, he thought that was pretty cool 😎
My cousins went to the same HS their dad & my mom went to. Same nuns & priests! I had an economics professor my mom had. Same college 😃
Great finds today! I have my Dad's Navy yearbook from 1953 in Bainbridge. And lots of papers from my maternal grandmother. I wouldn't dream of putting them in the trash! But then again my family teases me about being to sentimental!
That little bottle with the ridges on both sides was an old apothecary bottle. The ridges indicated that the contents of the bottle were poisonous. People could then tell the difference in their medicine.

You buy the lids to the mason jars separately.
There are tons of people who cant find canning jars right now. Worth knocking on the door to ask. They sell for new prices where I live. About 15 dollars a box

You only use lids for canning jars ONCE, as they are immersed in boiling water and you assume the seal will not hold up properly after a single use. They do make reusable lids and they are all sold online, so are easy to access.

People cut up the bandanna and appliqués them to sweatshirts and embellished them with turquoise plastic beads and silver colored stud! Big in the 1980’s! Interesting that you are so attached to your schools.

It's called Reselling which is a form of recycling. Take it all, sell what you can and take the unsold stuff to auction. I call it Jumble Boxes, it might just pay for two tanks of gas or two pairs of nice shoes!
I love the way you lose yourself when you're looking at ephemera. I get like that when I find a chair by the bins or a piece of linen or china at the flea market or Charity Shop. What a lovely find, a piece of your local history and saved from being lost forever. That's an afternoon with a mug of tea, and a nostalgic trip, for sure!

Those prints that you got in that baggie's were American Indian pillow covers. You make pillows with them.
You can go up to the house and ask if they are getting rid of the stuff in the yard. It is unlikely that they will bite you. What is the worse that can happen? They will say it is not available?

Please consider sending the yearbooks to Classmates.com for scanning if they don't already have those books on their site. Classmates no longer pays for yearbooks, but they do pay shipping both ways. You'd be helping out folks who never thought they'd have a chance to see their old high school yearbook again. I've tried finding my mom's for a long time. I hope one day someone will think to do that for hers.
A couple weeks ago, my husband and I stopped at an estate sale in Munising, Mi., on our way to our son’s university and they had 9 consecutive years of year books as early as 1976 that were all free. I grabbed them all! This place is 7 hours away from where we live, but our son was so excited and grabbed them all upon seeing them! He found space in his dorm room for them.
Your son and his dorm friends will probably get a kick out of looking through the yearbooks!

How can anyone just throw out historic photos? I'll never understand since I love to preserve history. So glad you got there in time to rescue them.
May have been cleaning a house out after someone passed away. Not everyone has family to leave things to, or ones who would be interested.
Thanks for saying this. People are always saying why don't the family keep the photos. They come from these families with tons of relatives. Some of us aren't in that situation. There are times when there is no one left in a family.
If there isn’t anyone for the items to go to, it would be something to give to the local historical society.
Maybe a divorce and what was left behind got trashed.
Not everyone wants a pic of people they don't know.
Just read in the paper there is a shortage of canning supplies . Wondering why you don't just take new in package stuff (bun warmer) or clean items (canning jars) for your tables . If they don't sell you can make a free basket to draw people in. Storage ? School pics are great ! You always find the bestest stuff 👍 TFS ✌

I am so glad you had a great high school experience. I did not. Horrible years, I walked out after graduation and didn’t look back. If I dwell on those years too much, I can really get angry.
Keep an eye out for hats with three stripes on the sides. I picked a vintage Kodiak Racing hat Friday for 50 cents sold it yesterday on eBay for $230!
You can’t get mason jars or covers here in NB right now either!
