    Thanks for the insight of being a driving examiner ADS. I knew it was a difficult job, but I didn't know how HARD it really was 😂. I got some clips right, but I put them in the wrong category. For example your last clip with the white car in front. I put that down as "speeding" not "distance" (if you get my drift). It is a very hard job. So I applaud you ADS for the insight and applaud driving examiners around the country.

    I disagree with clip 3. The road was reasonably straight allowing the driver to see far enough ahead to know that there was no oncoming vehicles. Moving over to the right hand side of the road momentarily opened up the field of vision allowing the driver to see further ahead around the left hand bend. He did not stay in the offside position unnecessarily and returned to his side of the road in plenty of time before the road then went around to the right. The position changes were smooth and controlled. This technique of going offside i believe is taught in Advanced driving.

    Pom, msm and mspsl. These are routines that all drivers should have as a habit. Since getting my license back in 2012 I've noticed quite a lot of change in teaching new drivers (like being able to go on motoways, couldn't do that when I was learning). I was taught to signal when passing parked vehicles as said signal can tell not just traffic but pedestrians or the occupation(s) of the parked car your intentions, your road position should also communicate your intention too but it's not as clear as an orange flashing light.
    For example is the car near the white line getting ready to pass something or does the driver just has poor lane discipline?

    Past my Test last week (3 minors) - watched your videos to relax and prepare me for my test in North London.Two for clearances (one car parked on the left before a roundabout that I had to turn left into) and not making the proper amount of observations when undertaking my manoeuvre.

  • @mrrc9082
    @mrrc9082 2 роки тому

    Out of curiosity, in clip five the driver indicates Right, but though you commented on the mirror check, would it no also be a fault as his indicator was still indicating right when he turned left ! could this not of confused someone of his/hers intentions. Also have been watching this videos during my driving lessons, upto and including day of my test, and still watch them 3 years after passing.

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  2 роки тому

      You are correct - we didn’t check our mirrors or signal to leave the roundabout. However, when several faults are made at once only the biggest fault will be marked - so we ignored the missing indicator this time. 👍🏼

    So on the serious fault 6 where you come up to a roundabout. You can't signal right going into and signal left upon the exit no? You should just go onto the roundabout without signalling until passing the 1st exit and signal upon the exit with the left indicator I'm asking? Thanks in advance.❤

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  8 місяців тому

      We should only indicate right when actually turning right. If we signal like in example 6 it would mislead others and might cause danger. Like you said, when driving ahead approach the roundabout with no signal, and then indicate to leave. 👍🏼

    Yes and my parents don’t like it. The most common faults I issue my parents are:
    Mirrors, change direction - not checking mirrors when manoeuvring parked cars.
    Moving off, safety - no blind spot check
    Mirrors, change speed - not checking centre mirror before braking or speeding up
    Signal, mirror - signal before mirror
    Use of speed - breaking speed limit serious fault
    Following distance - not 2 second gap serious fault
    Lane discipline - cutting lanes on some roundabouts

    What if the examiner directs to “continue” onto a roundabout, after the driver is slowing down out of caution. The diver continues, but the examiner’s direction places the driver’s vehicle in front of a car the Examiner didn’t see, nor the driver? Thoughts.

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  2 роки тому

      The examiner will only direct the driver’s direction. It is still the drivers responsibility to check it is safe to cross a give way line. If a driver is hesitant, a driving fault might be given but the examiner will not prompt the driver to continue. He is not there to help make decisions or drive the car. Just to observe and decide if the driving is up to standard.

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  4 роки тому

      Never think of the limit as a target - but we should make progress when its safe, to keep the traffic flowing. As long as we always drive at a speed that would allow us to stop in the road we can see to be clear, we should be fine - so drive slower when we can't see very far (or there are hazards present) and faster when we can see much further.

  • @VIP.Chauffeur.Training
    @VIP.Chauffeur.Training Рік тому

    I have watched the first video clip under the heading Moving Off. The information you give about moving off without a blind spot check is incorrect.
    It is not always a driving fault, it depends on the circumstances at the time, taking into account the location, width of road, proximity of other road users, etc. The fault demonstrated was a fault, but not worthy of recording.
    For example if that was the 16th driver fault how would you debrief the candidate on it and how would you write it up in a report?
    Having conducted over 18,000 driving tests on cars, trucks, buses, tractors, taxi and an occasional staff instructor at Cardington, you could say I have insight into fault ID, assessment and analysis. 9:15

    Cip 1 - Didn't check central mirror or any mirror when changing gears/speed , and didn't check any mirrors during the drive to assess the road around them once.

    Clip 7 -
    Clip 8 -
    Clip 9 - I'm just going to give up on checking this guys mirror checks.. seems like he never does them when slowing down and changing gears etc...
    Clip 10 - no signal when pulling out
    Clip 11 - Personally wouldn't give a minor here
    Clip 12 - Also no mirror check when he slowed down
    Clip 13 -
    Clip 14 - I'd give a major for that ..
    Clip 15 - Also drove on that bricky area on the sides of the roundabout thing, as far as i know, that's a major right there.
    (Clips without a comment mean I agree with everything and spotted no other issues, comments are additional to any fault mentioned in the clips already)
    How did you do - I know it's not part of the video but turning that harsh corner using one hand on the wheel and other on gear box? :P

      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  7 місяців тому

      That’s correct - we didn’t check the left mirror or signal to leave the roundabout. What fault would you give for that?

    13:28 arent we supposed to indicate on that lane change

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  3 роки тому +1

      No, as there was a right turn nearby and it could mislead someone that we were about to turn right. We would very rarely indicate to go around parked cars for this reason - instead use your car's road position as a signal to others. This video explains: Signalling with our road position: ua-cam.com/video/FxhXX0EaI5Y/v-deo.html

    if minor faults aren't dangerous, why do you still fail for getting too many in the same category?

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  2 роки тому +1

      We might get away with repeating the same small fault on a test - but it would eventually result in danger. For that reason any inherent faults would fail a test and should be avoided afterwards.

      Because it shows incompetence, something which will most likely lead to danger eventually if you're not taught out of it.

    Yes, I feel the observation was not up to the standard required, after 3'4 million miles as an adi , please don't enter the road without , effective observation, "vital", basic rules...sorry guys!!!

    Well an examiner at Anniesland in Glasgow just pulled out in front of me causing me to change direction- a fail - so what does this tell you ?
    An examiner causing potential danger?
    Not very good is it ?
    It tells me that they are just as human as anyone else- just wanting to get home like all of us - the dvsa don't practice what they preach- that is clear.

    Crazy filming a video like this just 4 you tube views, on driving clip 2 what if they’re actually was someone crossing the road or a cyclist, yes your mans a top driver but without looking still could have been dangerous

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  4 роки тому +1

      We didn't want to cause too much actual danger whilst filming, so we used quiet roads and only made faults that we could get away with. On clip 2 we did have a sneaky look before we entered the road!

    Why the hell has he got his right signal on here when hes going 2nd exit??

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  7 місяців тому

      We were turning right at that roundabout - so we should indicate right. Just because it’s the second exit doesn’t mean it’s straight ahead.

    • @xylophone3764
      @xylophone3764 7 місяців тому

      @@AdvanceDrivingSchool no that was 2nd exit right indicator should not be on 10:06

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  7 місяців тому

      Have another look at the roundabout sign. The second exit was to the right - so we need to indicate right when driving that way. Again, the second exit isn’t always treated as straight ahead - use the sign to guide you.

      What's the point in having rules unless we stick to them - especially on a driving test!

  • @voluntarism335

    You should not be doing this on actual roads, these are dangerous and filming it does not make it ok to do.
