Forced to step up and meet his royal responsibilities unexpectedly, George VI saw the nation through some difficult times and witnessed the changing landscape of Britain.
The King and Queen remained at Buckingham Palace throughout the War. They sent their daughters, Princess Elizabeth, (now present queen) and Princess Margaret to Windsor Castle for safety.
King George VI and Queen Elizabeth toured many of the areas that had suffered from heavy bombing, this showed the people of London that they really cared for them and their welfare.
Their defiance of the German Blitz gave the country a much-needed boost in their war efforts, and undoubtedly forged a sense of unity throughout the United Kingdom.
As the war raged on, the King’s role remained ever-important, with visits to a number of locations outside of Britain a vital morale-boosting mission for the men fighting for their country.
With the war eventually drawing to a close, King George VI made one final trip in 1944, days after the D-Day landing when he visited his troops in Normandy.
On VE (Victory in Europe) Day, May 8th 1945, Buckingham Palace was a focal point of the celebrations. The war had immeasurably strengthened the link between the King and his people.
The elation at winning the war was echoed around the country as the crowds of rejoicing civilians filled the streets, those around Buckingham Palace chanting for their King.

How can you not love King George VI? I have great regard for "Us 4" & Prince Philip, but King George VI takes the cake. He loved God, family, & country so much he basically worried himself to death over the upheaval of the abdication & WW2. His legacy was Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch in the world (Louis XIV was 4 when his father died, so a Regent stood in his place 8 years.).
As an American I had virtually no knowledge of these wonderful Windsors until I retired 5 years ago. I wish I could find more documentaries & movies on King George VI. What I have found endears him to me.

The voice recording of Princess Elizabeth is so amazing. I read that there is a very short voice recording of Queen Victoria. Wow!

What a remarkable life Queen Elizabeth 11 had. With all the trials & tribulations & family conflicts she with the support of Prince Phillip carried on with duty grace & dignity. Has left an incredible legacy & a terrible shame her last weeks were marred with the disgraceful behaviour of harry & meghan. R.I.P. & THANK YOU.

Simply wonderful use of archive footage - bravo! Perhaps a trifle conventional historically but why not? It is "Royalty TV" whoever you are.

Worried about the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, maybe instead of being stupid and aligned with the USSR at the beginning things might have been different. Stalin tried and tried to create an alliance with Britian and France to no avail.
