Same, and the bell joke made me laugh harder then some of the other jokes, simply for the older guys tone, like that was a normal thing. And the way he said it.
Well, this might be a more personal experience; but when I was growing up, in middleschool and highschool, if you could do a backflip on command, you were instantly the "cool kid". It just brought a smile to my face. :)
I'm attributing it to creators slowly creeping closer to realism without shocking the "true fans" who are attached to the unrealistic original. Back when aunt May was first created they didn't know that Spider-Man would be one of the most beloved of the company's heroes, so it didn't matter what age aunt May was as long as she was obviously older than her nephew. You can't get much more obvious than white hair and wrinkles.
mutilator97 whatcha talkin' about? You're telling me may/ben and Peter's parents AREN'T like 30 years apart and probably the worst sibling age gap I've ever seen? The sacrilege! /s
that hug where tony was just trying to open the door, it was unscripted. tom holland just thought it would be funny if peter thought tony was trying to hug him, and rdj being, well, rdj, played off of that and it made for one of my favorite clips ever ((edit: also, tom holland did as many of his own stunts as possible. he's also trained in gymnastics and i just love him so much. tom holland is the best spiderman, imo.
@@alyssa2807 That's the story of the whole MCU baby. John Favreau's insane directing in Iron Man is what made the MCU what it is. Iron Man 1 had basically no script. Favreau just worked with the actors to make it happen. Even the insane ending line "I am Iron Man." was RDJ making shit up on the fly. Just think of how much one actor's ad-lib affected the MCU. The fact that they don't have secret identities is all because of one improvised line.
There is no inside source that confirms that this scene is improvised. This scene was used to contrast Tony and Peter’s relationship from the end of civil war to the end of homecoming. It could have been improvised, but i highly doubt this because its a such a perfect comedic/deeper nod to character development and their relationships.
It's also so raw and packed full of untold emotions. There's nothing held back with it; it's just pure, genuine fear at the situation. It's just pure shock, fear, and sorrow rolled into one beautiful masterful moment that just speaks volumes to Peter's helpless panic at the situation. It also makes his turnaround a lot more triumphant.
Agreed. I'm normally somewhat emotionally detached towards film characters because, you know, they're not real, but that scene made me genuinely distressed. I felt like I was listening to a real human being feeling terror and despair and it brought out a primal reaction in me. Full respect to Tom Holland.
I also really loved how vulnerable peter is. A lot of times with male characters they aren't allowed to show any emotion beyond anger or strength, but this peter didn't follow that. I thought it was really refreshing to see a character who cries, messes up and feels sorry, shows his emotions, and genuinely cares about his friends while still being strong and saving lives in the process
a name Now imagine if he was crying when he had to save lives. That’s where the whole “control your emotions, men!” comes from- society needing men to do work. The rest comes from feminists straw-manning and gaslighting it into “men must be emotional bricks!”.
Nah, it's just good character writing. And with good I mean fleshed out and realistic. Seeing the hero struggling and facing consequences for their action is indeed more relateable.
@@conner3548 Exactly. It's that humanizing moment that makes a good hero and Cap Marvel lacks it. It's kinda funny how Vision or Gamora is more human and relatable than Carol Danvers.
@@reddragonX1000 Even Nebula shows her own emotions while also showing a real struggle and how Thanos treated her as well as how she evolved from the first Guardians to Endgame.
Probably very late to the party, but I love how they leaned into Vulture's whole aesthetic by making him a villain whose whole business is built on picking apart dead bodies. Just like how real vultures mostly scavenge for food rather than hunting. Edit: got to the end of the video. He totally addressed this already. Oops.
What really struck me is that when he saved Vulture, he didn't tell people. Peter is just a kid, who could have easily bigged himself up to Tony to impress him. I don't know, the whole end of that scene just felt so humble
He DID tell though: did you not read the note he left on the rubble right by where Vulture was tied up at the end? He signed it "Spider-Man". In any case, Tony definitely knew it was him because THAT'S what made Tony offer Peter the new suit. Were you even paying attention at all? That's kind of hard to miss.
@@Fyrecide he tells them that he found and caught the vulture, not that he saved his life. op means that he didn't tell anyone he saved vulture from almost dying.
@@KurowChibifan1 I’m pretty sure that is implied. Especially a genius like Tony has the smarts and tech to be able to discern what happened from the wreckage of the Vulture’s suit and how he’s still alive in jail. It doesn’t take Einstein to put 2 and 2 together for that situation.
In that scene with Peter panicking, stuck under all that ruble, I got the sickest feeling in my stomach. It's acted so well; it's totally believable. I went full-on Tony Stark Paternal Instinct in that moment.
The super hero equivalent of your dad locking eyes with you at a party that he grounded you from going. Spiderman:"Oh...Sh-" Ironman:"Finish that word...and it WILL be your last through that mask young man."
There are only 2 wins I feel you forgot to mention. 1. The young Aunt May actually makes more sense than her previous incarnations. Think about it, it makes no sense for Peter's mother to have a sister that looks like she's in her 80's. Plus, it's his Aunt May, not his _Great_ Aunt May. 2. "I'm.....loooking......at porn."
His mom's sister? No, Aunt May is Peter's father's older brother's wife (which is why Ben and May were older). Ben was Peter's uncle by blood, while May was his aunt by marriage, hence why she has the same last name as her nephew.
"When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen... they happen because of you." When I heard that line, I immediately thought it was said in direct relation to uncle Ben's death, which was never specifically noted, and if it did happen, it was off-screen, but I imagined that line encapsulated that entire arc within just one extremely meaningful sentence, because it is literally just a paraphrase of "with great power, comes great responsibility".
There's also another subtle nod to Uncle Ben and what happened with him when Ned finds out he's Spider-Man and says he'll have trouble keeping the secret. "Ned, May cannot know. I cannot do that to her right now, you know? I mean, everything that’s happened with her, I... Please." And then Ned and Peter share a very specific look that tells you Peter isn't saying something that directly relates to this reason, but Ned knows what it is, and understands why Peter wouldn't want to say anything about it. My guess is Ned heard what had happened to Uncle Ben (and was likely friends with Peter at the time) and helped Peter through it (though probably isn't aware that Peter feels guilty for it). If Ned didn't know about Uncle Ben, they wouldn't have shared this look. Peter doesn't even mention what happened with May, but Ned doesn't even question it.
@@tristancarter6630 "when you can do the things you can..." im guessing this means he already knew (to an extent) what he could do with his powers and how he could control it and use it to save others "but you dont..." possibly referring to when he did the whole wrestler thing and won?? and was walking home and saw his uncle and he didnt do anything to stop it "and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you" they happen because of you, its a line that shows his guilt bc he feels like he didnt do anything, and didnt use the powers he had to stop his uncle from dying. at least, thats my take for it
this movie gets a win for making everyone on my band bus go "he quit marching band???" in quiet horror when we discovered peter quit marching band when we watched this movie on the way back from utah
My favorite thing is the “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” feel they got perfect in this. He is fitting the role of what spider man truly is to the city.
@youtube account Recently I rewatched the Raimi's trilogy and… as movies they're not very good imo. The acting are quite bad, some lines are cringy, the story is okay… but I'll admit that they're fun to watch. Dr Octopus doesn't resemble his comic counterpart but still lovable. MJ is seriously the worst character and Aunt May is too rude in those. As a trailblazer it opened up a genre but the quality doesn't hold up to the standard now. I don't think in any means they're bad tho. Walking out of the theatre after watching Homecoming and FFH left me wanting more Spiderman. This version of Spiderman is friendly, funny but not cringy. Now I'm wishing Marvel to reboot the Fant4stic so that Spiderman got some buds. Change my mind.
@youtube account I haven't sussed if you're trolling, being a contrarian for the sake of it, or are genuinely this deluded. You obviously have a right to your opinion, but there is something about the level of misplaced passion for what are essentially schlocky camp-tastic and undeniably flawed films that spawned from the tail end of an age when comic book films were (at the time) C-quality novelties whose only saving grace was their charm that came from the godawful acting, cringe dialogue, cheap costumes, and admittedly loving direction despite the end result. You are blinded by nostalgia. The Tom Holland films aren't perfect, but compared to Raimi? Well, it doesn't even need to be said. It's not the love you have for the Raimi trilogy that irks and confuses me. It's the hatred for the Holland films that leaves me at a complete and utter loss.
Whoa. I... feel guilty for rustling the jimmies of an obviously mentally unwell person. I hope you're doing okay, bud. Do you have a friend to call? Not even being facetious. I think some human interaction would do you some good. Good luck out there.

You know, I really love how distinctive each MCU film is, doctor strange is a fantasy film, winter soilder feels like a spy mystery thriller, and homecoming feels well.... Like a highschool movie. No one movie in this entire saga feels beat beat for beat the same. And I really like that.
@@andrewswitzer6334 I feel bad for u. The loudest my cinema has been is when I went to watch homecoming some dick kept commenting about the movie every time he thinks he can say something funny. I felt like chucking popcorn at him. Fortunately he wasn't too loud
Imagine that convo with Aunt May. "So, Tony wants me to go fight aliens in space. Can I go?" "Absolutely NOT!" "You know I'll just find some convoluted way to go anyway, right?"
That Star Kid That bugs me quite a bit. I want to see Spider-Man in a few movies just doing his thing, and then team up with the Avengers or whoever a while later. Instead it feels like they’re just shoving him in Infinity War because “the fans want to see it” or something.
i hope tom holland plays Spiderman for a long time. he perfectly plays the role by just being a kid. peter wasnt invincible, he had to learn this to get to where he was later in the next few movies
A win for Tony telling Peter to not be like him. Because he doesn't want Peter to be like the man who made the Mandarin, who sold weapons that killed Wanda and Petro's parents, who made Ultron, and made a rift between the Avengers. Edit: Stop arguing down there.
Cap caused the rift in the Avengers. I get tired of people not seeing it or recognizing it. Cap is the villain in Civil War, from not going along with Tony on the Accords and for lying to Tony for years and not telling him Bucky killed his parents
When Tony was opening the door for Peter and he said “I’m not giving you a hug I’m just opening the door for you. We’re not there yet.” It was kind of Infinity War shadowing.
WeSuckAt Games No, Spider-Man’s death was part of the script, but the hug was not. Tom Holland did not know about his death until they filmed that scene. When he learned that he was going to die, he improvised from the “I don’t feel so good” to the dusting.
But it wasn’t really a hug either. Peter cling to tony and tony just stood there holding him up so if it’s s foreshadowing then it’s saying they never “get to that point”

The scariest part of the scene with Vulture in the car is that given Peter’s enhanced senses even if he didn’t see the gun he would have heard it being cocked, and he would have been able to smell the gunpowder plus the whole thing is a stark reminder that Peter really is just a kid. Sidenote I actually found Vulture more terrifying when he was out of the Vulture suit and was just being Toome’s, he was actually super intimidating just as a normal guy.
Doesn’t young aunt may make more sense since that’s his mother/father sister unless his parents are really old. Also it was a great twist on the character,in my head this makes a lot more sense.
She's not even young, Marisa Tomei was in her 50s when the movie came out. The people that are complaining think she's 20 something and don't know any better. She's supposed to be his aunt, not grandmother. She's his aunt by marriage, so Uncle Ben was his blood uncle and she was his wife before his death.
I always assumed, having never read the comics, that "Aunt" was kinda euphomistic, like, maybe his parents told him that he was gonna be staying with his "Aunt and Uncle" for a while before they die offscreen
I think it's supposed to be the traffic lights on his face symbolising him realising the truth - as he figures it out the light goes from red to green.
By far, my favorite part of Marvel's spidey is that he's a KID. They need to write him like one. Peter is supposed to be my age, and in these movies (as in civil war, infinity war, and obviously this one) he behaves exactly how I and a bunch of my classmates and friends would. He's excited, he's happy to be part of something, he's dorky and nervous but he lets himself have fun, and he's confident in himself even when he messes up. I ADORE Tom Holland's portrayal.
Me too, even the second time I watched it the part when he holds up a knife I thought he was gonna stab the heck out of him. I love this movie so much!
This one was really good. Tom Holland is excellent! The "teenagers" were, overall, fairly great. Marisa Tomei doesn't try to expand a rather small role, but packs very much into it. Michael Keaton brings psychological realism to comicbook villainy. He is definitely a bad guy, he's just a principled eye-for-an-eye guy: if you help him or at least don't mess with him, you are safe. Threaten his plans, you are dead. RDJ performs a high-schooler's idea of an adult: doesn't help, doesn't listen, doesn't appreciate, doesn't realize that in your own eyes you already are what you are striving to become. And, ultimately, someone who actually cares, tries to help without keeping you from growing, and who you really should have listened to.
One thing I think needs to be pointed out more about Zendaya's character is that through out the movie, she is called "Michelle," so while at the end she gives herself the nickname "MJ," she is not the same Mary Jane Watson as from the comics. Also, this is the MCU, Earth-1999999, not Earth-616 from the comics. Characters are going to be different from what people are used to, for example on Earth-50101 Spider-Man is a young boy from India and on Earth-1610 Norman Osborn turns himself and Harry into actual goblins-monsters
septicplier Loler I’m pretty sure the main storyline of the MCU isn’t 616. I mean, stuff is clearly different from the comics. But yes, there absolutely is a multiverse, and the 616 one is out there 👀
The thing I liked best about this film was that the high school actually looked like it had teenagers there, not twenty five year old's like every other Spiderman thing. Also the fact it doesn't end on a funeral, its the second one that didn't.
@@alfa01spotivo well it's hard to find talented 15 years who can perfectly act out a Spiderman AND Peter Parker like Tom Holland. Especially since he also had the accent gap.
I still can't get over how much I love this Spidey. Dude, when he dessapeared in Infinity War, I legit wanted to scream “mY S O N-”, like when Thanos killed Loki.
Toms acting in the scene where he figures out where Vulture is Liz' dad! Damn you can see in the paleness of his face he was truly scared in that moment. amazing acting!
I love this channel. There’s just something cathartic about someone nitpicking the good things instead of the bad of movies. It also creates an enriching environment wherein you’re not afraid to like a certain movie because there’s definitely some good to see in it.
That's why I really like this channel, you said it perfectly man :) There's enough snarky, sarcastic-type UA-cam movie channels that nitpick and criticise everything in film. While that's fun, it can get tiresome and some positivity is a welcome change for me.
You could honestly hear everyone gasp in my theater when Michael Keaton showed up at the door when Peter was picking up his date. It was such a well developed twist! I think it honestly had to do with the fact that they changed up the race of some people as well, and the way that all of the focus on Vulture's character was strictly on his criminal life. It isn't until now when we see his more human side. And we're caught off guard just like Peter (and it's rare when a film like this can do that)
Matt D I watched it with my girlfriend and we both couldn't handle this tension. It was to much to bare. But what I really like about this twist is that they gave small little hints before the reveal. I catched them when I rewatched it a month ago.
Yeah, that tells me that this version of Liz isn't Liz Allan. Why would Liz be named Allan and Vulture's last name be Toomes? Maybe it's just a nod to Liz Allan like Michelle was a nod to Mary Jane.
Easy explanation - her mother's last name is Allan and I believe that after the Homecoming ending her parents will get divorced with her accepting mother's last name, thus Liz Allan.
The best thing about it was how it was this cute upbeat music showing his excitement for the dance, and then the beat getting cut off by the reveal. So creative.
I love how this Spiderman film subverts every trope that happens in the previous Spiderman films. The villain doesn't kill himself at the end, there's no funeral, and Peter doesn't struggle with his powers. EDIT: I'm referencing Honest Trailers by the way. Although given recent events, it probably wasn't the best time.
I get your point but he does struggle with his powers. In the "giving directions to old ladys and webbing people trying to get in their own cars" montage, he does fall flat on his face by mistake. And after he "unlocks" his suit he does struggle A LOT to use it. But I agree with you, a lot of people blame this movie for being "yet another spiderman movie", but it was a really fresh take on the character.
Well that's a bland story. Let me guess he starts off with street thugs then has one encounter with the vulture and then has a final battle at the end?
Yep. Let's get rid of everything that made Spider-Man memorable. As much as I am glad that a villian doesn't commit suicide again, I feel like Peter NOT struggling with his new found powers just turns it off for me. That's what makes Spider-Man so memorable. The fact that he strugles with dealing with his powers, balancing both his social life and superhero life and keeping his identity a secret. It would make more sence if Peter was a lot older, then he wouldn't strugle with his powers, but if this movie showed us anything, is that Peter just got his powers, so he has a lot to learn.
5:36 I'm an only child, and I got bunk beds for both sleep overs, and also because the bunk bed I got, the bottom bunk folded into a couch, which made playing videos games a lot more comfortable.
17:10 not sure if anyone pointed this out or not, but peter's phone is cracked, which signifies that he really is just a teen who can be clumsy and drop his phone even though he's a dope superhero
It also appears more and more cracked as the movie goes on, which means that he probably had his phone in his boot or something as Spider-man, and it got cracked during the fights.
As someone who sat till the end of the credits even after the cinema was telling us that they needed to clean up the area, to get the Captain America "patience" bit was simultaneously hilarious and made me feel like an idiot. Good film.
People need to stop hating on MJ. You need to understand she is NOT Mary Jane from the Spiderman trilogy. She is Michelle Jones, her own unique character, and her saying she went by MJ in homecoming was just a little reference that marvel wanted us to have fun with. Don't hate homecoming MJ because she isn't like the original MJ!
I never understood why people were up in arms about Aunt May. Sure, she looks younger than the other iterations, but so does Tom Holland--and it evens the plane out a little bit in a great way. (Also, I think people forget that Marisa Tomei is in her 50's. Looks great for her age, though!)
I dont like that aunt may is young because in the comics one of the reasons he becames spiderman is because aunt may is a old lady that cant sustain herself. And it felt a lot more heartbreaking when uncle Ben died, with this young iteration feels like the motivation of becoming spiderman is lost.
18:52 "I'm not tryna... sHoOt tHeM BaCk iN TiMe" Omg, Glover was MY FAVORITE character!!! X'D X'D *"I DIDN'T EVEN GIVE YOU THE LOCATION YET."* Priceless!! XD
honestly, i really liked the little details!!! ned has a "this is fine" sticker from the meme on his laptop, and the kids playing fmk, and may helping peter learn how to tie a tie off of youtube. they all just make the characters feel like real people. of course ned likes memes. kids always play mildly age-inappropriate games, and if betty brant lives somewhere like harlem, of course she's not going to like the hulk honestly, ned deserves a lot more wins. i just really like ned
I don't know why people say that Peter's tech is too "out of character", or, "too overpowered." The spider tracer is actually one of his gadgets in the comics. So he is just being more like the comic counterpart than other incarnations.
I don't think people realize how much tech Peter actually uses in the comics. Literally the only thing they didn't go right is that he makes 90% of his own tech. They forget he has an IQ of 250...
"Everyone thinks you fall into your designated groups for 4 years." I mean....yeah Also, Aunt May looking younger definitely works. If Peter is ~15, then his Mom could be 40 (if she was alive and had Peter at 25). Heck, Aunt May could be the younger sister to Peter's Mom, so she could easily be 35, which is wayyyyy younger than the previous Aunt May's that looked 60+
I watched this in theatre and one of the two guys in front of me said "what a whimp" at 13:57 ... I'm sorry, but how would you react if you were being crushed under rubble?!?!? Probably the same reaction as Peter
“When you can do the things i can... and you dont... and then the bad things happen... they happen because of you” A little showing of peters backstory. He became Spiderman because he didnt get a badguy and then the badguy killed ben
@@vinylth they didn't include ben because there's already been 2 takes on the origin story already. this movie wasn't establishing his character because it was already established.
jesus with a lowercase j They didn’t wanna show him since we’re overexposed to Ben’s death and spider bite/discovers powers scene, but it is uncle Ben who died
I also like how they fix the issue with the eyes. In the comic the eyes were used to emote but the first two spidermen movies it was just a still mask.
Gotta love how they made Vulture almost an actual Vulture in this movie. The Avengers took down the main threats, then Vulture and his team went in and took the goodies from the carcasses, all the while keeping themselves far away from major threats that they surely would not be able to beat, like the Avengers.
What I loved about Tom's Spiderman is the fact that as a kid I can relate to him the same way older fans related to the character back when the marvel cinematic universe wasn't even an idea. The Spider man role has been passed like a torch and people have grown up with it from to the people who watched the Maguire's movies as children who are now adults to the children who are currently watching Tom's iteration brings a sense that as viewers Spiderman has come full circle and the older audience can share something with their children that they treasured which can then can be passed on Edit: Woah didn't expect many likes but thanks guys😁
I don't think Garfield ruined Spidey. He just didn't seem like a kid who would get bullied in highschool. The movies also suffered from the writers trying to cram too much stuff into one movie.
2:55 great point. There are definitely cliques, and people hang out with their typical groups, but there’s no set boundaries might get you ostracized if you cross them. My best friend plays smash during lunch, but sometimes I go to sit with another friend of mine, who was homecoming royalty. After school I might hang out with my friends before their track practice starts, but only if I don’t see my theater friends first. We don’t just talk to the same 5 people every day
I completely missed it in many, many rewatches too. But this actually makes me wonder if we'll be getting Miles in later phases, since they DID introduce Aaron Davis casually and make mention of Miles indirectly. It wouldn't surprise me terribly if they did or didn't, but it would be a welcome surprise bringing two Spideys into the MCU.
I really like the choice of using the Vulture as the villain for a Spider-Man movie. He's a lot less iconic than the Spider-Man villains we've seen before in Green Goblin, Doc. Oct, and Venom. No one else ever really fought him, which is great for using him in Spidey's movie. they even write it so that he lives up to his name, scavenging alien tech. This movie was a big reminder for me why I loved Spider-Man so much as a kid.
4:08 I noticed how Cinemasins puts on random sins to pad out the sin counter, while Cinemawins puts on random wins because they love the movie and their fans. :)
The Spider-Man movie we needed and deserved this movie was great at introducing Spider-Man to the MCU and telling his own story while also playing against all the tropes from the Raimi and Webb movies and Michael Keaton is the best villain since Alfred Molina as Doc Ock
Anonymous User Flash and MJ were not done well, but I think the casting of Peter makes up for that. I hate the MJ thing most because flash is supposed to be more modern because we don't see jocks being bullies like in the comics now a days.
DiamondSpiderProductions Michelle was a quite interesting and compelling character, I actually wished for her to be Peter's gf instead of a bland LI. Even if she isnt MJ from the comics. A good reimagining. Flash... wasn't. Even if I appreciate the idea.Penis Parker oh god
M Jela I didn't like that Michelle was MJ. I do in fact like Michelle as a character. I hope they forget the whole MJ thing and introduce Mary Jane later, but I'm fine with Michelle. I also don't like Flash. I see why they changed him but as Anonymous User said, it kinda ruins our chances at Agent Venom and Agent Venom is an awesome character who deserves a movie!
The key observation is what a perfectly well-rounded Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man Tom Holland is. Honestly Tobey Maguire may never be unseated as the definite Peter Parker (the same way Christopher Reeve may never be unseated as the definitive Superman), but his take on Spider-Man was pretty much Peter in a suit. And while lots of people hated Andrew Garfield's lame take on Peter, he had the quipping and motor mouth stuff while in costume as Spider-Man down to a fine art. Holland is the first one to really match the _comics_ character by combining both aspects of Peter Parker/Spider-Man together.
I never cared for Toby's version...because of that...an entire generation grew up actually thinking his webs were biologically produced by his own body...and his attitude and appearance was nothing like how Spidey/Peter was in the comics. And his relationship with M.J. was weak as hell. They act like they were best friends their whole lives even though clearly they wasn't, and even though we never saw them elevate to that type of relationship on screen. She was just there as a damsel in distress, basically like Lois in every Superman film. Their "best friend" relationship just felt too forced and bland. The villains and story however were great. But personally, I always felt Toby was a complete mismatch to play Spidey/Peter...but all of this still doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the 1st iteration of my 2nd all-time favorite superhero...Captain America is 1st lol But Holland as Spider-Man and Peter Parker, to me, is the epitome of everything Spider-Man and Peter. Even the late great Stan Lee said that Holland is exactly what he pictured in his head as he was creating Spider-Man. He never said that about Toby or the other guy lol so that right there puts Tom at numero uno for me.
Tony Stark's care for results over intent is actually a very consistent character trait. Stark's a utilitarian, a perfect contrast to the deontological Captain America, and exactly the kind of personality you'd expect a CEO to have- results matter in Stark's line of work, they always have.
Okay so funny story, I took my godkids to see this movie with their parents thinking, "it's Spider-Man, it's fine for young kids" then that line happened and one of the boys looked at me and ask: "what's porn?" I never changed a subject so fast...
I like Zendaya's character both in her own right and as a love interest for Peter, I just have a hard time seeing her as MJ in anything but name. That said, the fact that her real name is Michelle Jones and not Mary Jane tells me that they're aware of this and just gave her the nickname as a nod to the comics, which I can appreciate.
Yeah, I don't think she's supposed to be Mary' Jane Watson in any way. There is really zero connection. I see her as a character completely original to the movies, and the MJ tag was just to confirm that yes she's going to be the love interest. Though in that regard, I do wish they would have just called her Michelle even after the "My friends call me MJ" to emphasize the fact she's not Mary Jane.
Holy shit dude. So I've praised Holland's acting during the if this be my destiny scene pretty much every time i've seen this movie (which is a lot) but it just dawned one me that when he's doing his 100% convincing screams for help that's not even in his native accent.
Stan Lee said himself that Tom Holland was exactly the kind of person he was thinking of when making Spider-Man and Peter Parker, so even Tom has Stan's vote of confidence. I think Tom's talent is severely understated. The kid is ABSURDLY talented for his age. RDJ said it best himself; Tom's likely to become the future face of cinema if it keeps up.

When my family went hiking one year, a two ton boulder fell onto my older sister and pinned her to the ground by her chest and stomach. We all panicked and managed to get it off of her and that is exactly how she and we reacted to that scenario. Regardless of age, a vast majority of people are gonna panic like that when they're pinned and being crushed. It's just natural.
9:56 - kinda was wishing that you would win how instead of instantly gripping to the wall after jumping...leaping?...those few yards, he slides backwards a little bit before really getting his grip, showing how his whole "stick to walls" thing isn't just an automatic thing that happens, it's a physical aspect of him and he needs to actually concentrate to use it, and if hes just climbed something incredibly tall like the washington monument he's gonna be tired, genetically altered to have the strength ratios of a spider or not. I think that's the first time we have seen a really good example of how peter's spidey powers are a skill that he has to develop and consciously use. and honestly it was probably my favorite bit from this movie, just because of how much attention to detail there was put into it. edit: it happens on the bottom of the jet too, although more because the wind is really strong that from prolonged physical exertion. either way, win for attention to physiological detail by the directors
@@mnty2464 I disagree, he's never been the most comic accurate. People throw that word around alot. Before he was far from comic accurate, now he's definitely comic accurate but still. Saying "the most" is kind of a stretch
Might I add that I appreciated the lack of a kiss scene? The simple, awkward "I like you" kept Peter grounded in his shy teenage personality, not some "I've been reborn as a suave and confident badass in my superhero lifestyle" thing that you'd expect.
I guess you can call this a win what I’m bout to say But i like how the school news video report is not like great quality and they made the green screen glitch and make it look more like it was edited at a school not a professional editor
My favorite scene is in the bank, where Spider-man confronts the robbers wearing Avengers masks, because the poster behind him says, “Identity theft? We have you covered” and then Peter makes a joke about them “being the Avengers” when they really obviously aren’t the avengers, it’s just perfect lol
Something I really appreciated about this movie is Toomes. He's just a guy who got screwed over and went down the dark path to make things (according to him) right. ...and then went too far. But he does have a bit of honor. 13:01 He could've killed Peter, (although that would've been easy to pin on him) but he let him go because this kid, who has been a pain, saved his daughter. Also, in prison, he denies knowing who he is, possibly because he saved his life.
Personally for me it came across less as Spiderman saved my life so i wont tell his secret and more as there was no reason to rat out spiderman. Toomes made it feel as if the whole thing was just business for him and he didn't make it personal unless he had to
There's also the fact that, over everything else, the job took precedence. He had Peter on the ropes NUMEROUS times, and could've killed him in any of them, but the most he did was simply try to get Peter off his back and prevent Peter from interrupting his job. He could've done so much more to kill Peter if he really wanted to, but he really only went after Peter if Peter tried getting in the way.
Sean McNew If getting thrown off of a jet into the ground going over 300 mph couldn't kill him and he can just shrug off a building collapsing on him, then I very highly doubt that anything that Vulture could do could do anything more than tire him out.
Give more points to the fact that people were more suspicious of Peter being spider man because they actually realize he goes missing and then spider man shows up
I love how his phone screen gets more and more cracked throughout the movie. It’s a detail they didn’t have to put in, but they did.

Well, this might be a more personal experience; but when I was growing up, in middleschool and highschool, if you could do a backflip on command, you were instantly the "cool kid". It just brought a smile to my face. :)

LOL
Ryuji Ah I see
So i get that you can relate to the whole "do a backflip" thing, but what does that have to do with being a 90's kid?
I always wondered why people were so annoyed about Aunt May being young. She's his AUNT, after all. Not his grandmother.
You're not the only one to make that observation.
Agreed. This one seems the most “aunt-y” of all of them.
You can't get much more obvious than white hair and wrinkles.

that hug where tony was just trying to open the door, it was unscripted. tom holland just thought it would be funny if peter thought tony was trying to hug him, and rdj being, well, rdj, played off of that and it made for one of my favorite clips ever
((edit: also, tom holland did as many of his own stunts as possible. he's also trained in gymnastics and i just love him so much. tom holland is the best spiderman, imo.
Omg I didn't know that. So you're telling me that they wrote the hug scene in Endgame just as a nod to Tom's improvising? I love that so much
@@alyssa2807 That's the story of the whole MCU baby. The fact that they don't have secret identities is all because of one improvised line.
starzie COULDN’T AGREE MORE!!!
trequor to be fair I Am Iron Man was proposed on a dinner after the shooting of the scene...and then it was reshot saying this line...
There is no inside source that confirms that this scene is improvised. This scene was used to contrast Tony and Peter’s relationship from the end of civil war to the end of homecoming. It could have been improvised, but i highly doubt this because its a such a perfect comedic/deeper nod to character development and their relationships.
13:59 That scream in that scene is the scream of a terrified 15 year old kid and I fully love Tom Holland for that alone.
I was thinking the same thing
It's also so raw and packed full of untold emotions. There's nothing held back with it; it's just pure, genuine fear at the situation. It's just pure shock, fear, and sorrow rolled into one beautiful masterful moment that just speaks volumes to Peter's helpless panic at the situation. It also makes his turnaround a lot more triumphant.
Yeetus McDab 0
His acting was on point
That's why I loved this film and why Captain Marvel just didn't hit me, it's the level of emotion and working your way up to be something greater.
@@conner3548 Exactly. It's that humanizing moment that makes a good hero and Cap Marvel lacks it. It's kinda funny how Vision or Gamora is more human and relatable than Carol Danvers.

What really struck me is that when he saved Vulture, he didn't tell people. Peter is just a kid, who could have easily bigged himself up to Tony to impress him. I don't know, the whole end of that scene just felt so humble
Yup. Peter learns about humility.
And vulture saves him as well :)

Yeah it's cool how such a seemingly useless/unimportant character trait is always there in every version of his character, even ps5 peter
All the previous incarnations make sense as well, in this one she looks to
o young.
Sci-FiGuy that’s true it’s his auntie not his grandma
His mom's sister? No, Aunt May is Peter's father's older brother's wife (which is why Ben and May were older). Ben was Peter's uncle by blood, while May was his aunt by marriage, hence why she has the same last name as her nephew.
Still doesn't make sense for her to that old
Ungle Scrooge wants a word with you...
"When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen... they happen because of you."
When I heard that line, I immediately thought it was said in direct relation to uncle Ben's death, which was never specifically noted, and if it did happen, it was off-screen, but I imagined that line encapsulated that entire arc within just one extremely meaningful sentence, because it is literally just a paraphrase of "with great power, comes great responsibility".
There's also another subtle nod to Uncle Ben and what happened with him when Ned finds out he's Spider-Man and says he'll have trouble keeping the secret.
"Ned, May cannot know. I cannot do that to her right now, you know? I mean, everything that’s happened with her, I... Please."
And then Ned and Peter share a very specific look that tells you Peter isn't saying something that directly relates to this reason, but Ned knows what it is, and understands why Peter wouldn't want to say anything about it.
Mike234 I still don’t understand that quote, why does the wording sound so weird
Nibbasaurus Rex what do you mean?
Yea for sure.

@youtube account Oh my god shut the fuck up i legit am getting visibly annoyed just move on its a youtube comment damn

She's his aunt because she was married to Uncle Ben.
100% agree
I always assumed, having never read the comics, that "Aunt" was kinda euphomistic, like, maybe his parents told him that he was gonna be staying with his "Aunt and Uncle" for a while before they die offscreen
You missed the color shift in the car, to red on vulture's face as he realizes who Peter is.
I think it's supposed to be the traffic lights on his face symbolising him realising the truth - as he figures it out the light goes from red to green.
By far, my favorite part of Marvel's spidey is that he's a KID. They need to write him like one.

Marvel actually confirmed that, just because a movie is released that year, it doesn’t mean it takes place in that year.

I love this channel. There’s just something cathartic about someone nitpicking the good things instead of the bad of movies. It also creates an enriching environment wherein you’re not afraid to like a certain movie because there’s definitely some good to see in it.
kidplague7 correct
kidplague7. Both CinemaWins and CinemaSins are amazing. Neither is better, neither is worse. All depends on your mood
That's why I really like this channel, you said it perfectly man :) There's enough snarky, sarcastic-type UA-cam movie channels that nitpick and criticise everything in film. While that's fun, it can get tiresome and some positivity is a welcome change for me.
I read this in his voice.
The Marvel maniac hi???
Matt D it was obvious and not even a twist
Although given recent events, it probably wasn't the best time.
well he kind of struggles - after unlocking the suit.
It would make more sence if Peter was a lot older, then he wouldn't strugle with his powers, but if this movie showed us anything, is that Peter just got his powers, so he has a lot to learn.
and he does but in a different way.
And apparently CinemaWins spellchecker is also cracked because the subtitles say "Peter Park" during this bit.
It also appears more and more cracked as the movie goes on, which means that he probably had his phone in his boot or something as Spider-man, and it got cracked during the fights.
Also, the way it is at the end of the movie, its "spiderwebbed" cracked ;)
As someone who sat till the end of the credits even after the cinema was telling us that they needed to clean up the area, to get the Captain America "patience" bit was simultaneously hilarious and made me feel like an idiot. Good film.
People need to stop hating on MJ. You need to understand she is NOT Mary Jane from the Spiderman trilogy. She is Michelle Jones, her own unique character, and her saying she went by MJ in homecoming was just a little reference that marvel wanted us to have fun with. He totally forgot when the vulture figured out he was spiderman the light turned green as a representation of the vulture
And also that when the light was red, that was Toomes confirming whether Peter was definitely Spider-Man, and when it turned green, he was sure.

Ned is such a bro and I can genuinely say Ned's addition to the story improves the movie more than it would've had he not been included.
I don't know why people say that Peter's tech is too "out of character", or, "too overpowered." The spider tracer is actually one of his gadgets in the comics. So he is just being more like the comic counterpart than other incarnations.

What I loved about Tom's Spiderman is the fact that as a kid I can relate to him the same way older fans related to the character back when the marvel cinematic universe wasn't even an idea. The Spider man role has been passed like a torch and people have grown up with it from to the people who watched the Maguire's movies as children who are now adults to the children who are currently watching Tom's iteration brings a sense that as viewers Spiderman has come full circle and the older audience can share something with their children that they treasured which can then can be passed on
Edit: Woah didn't expect many likes but thanks guys😁
Ruben Cabral. Well sadly all the idiots worshipping Maguire are always trying to be as toxic as possible nowadays :/
People worship Maguire because the films that he starred in were extremely well-made and had great characters and heart.
nitt and then came Andrew Garfield, who ruined Spider-Man’s reputation.
I don't think Garfield ruined Spidey. He just didn't seem like a kid who would get bullied in highschool. The movies also suffered from the writers trying to cram too much stuff into one movie.

I really like the choice of using the Vulture as the villain for a Spider-Man movie. He's a lot less iconic than the Spider-Man villains we've seen before in Green Goblin, Doc. Oct, and Venom. Anonymous User Flash and MJ were not done well, but I think the casting of Peter makes up for that. I hate the MJ thing most because flash is supposed to be more modern because we don't see jocks being bullies like in the comics now a days.

tom holand’s face straight up turns into a combination of disgust and "is that even on the script?"
But personally, I always felt Toby was a complete mismatch to play Spidey/Peter...but all of this still doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the 1st iteration of my 2nd all-time favorite superhero...Captain America is 1st lol
But Holland as Spider-Man and Peter Parker, to me, is the epitome of everything Spider-Man and Peter. Even the late great Stan Lee said that Holland is exactly what he pictured in his head as he was creating Spider-Man. He never said that about Toby or the other guy lol so that right there puts Tom at numero uno for me.

Also, 14:10.
I saw this and immediately caught the reference to Amazing Spider-Man #33.
"Oh....someone's done their homework."
