Upgraded my tab s8 ultra 512gb to the s9u 1tb and im glad i did. I love the snap dragon 8 gen 2 and its performance, the other upgrades with the display, cooling and storage upgrade is nice as well. Samsung def needs to lower the price of the keyboard book cover or do a better promotion or atleast let you trade in the previous book cover.
I loooooved the 8 gen 2 when I traded in my S22U for the S23U. Longer battery life was what I needed the most out of the phone. UFS 4.0 is really nice for transferring files or moving them from folder to folder.
If Samsung offered a trade-in for the keyboard or the S8 Ultra keyboard worked with the S9 Ultra, I would have upgraded. I don't want to buy another keyboard for $350.
@gsogymrat I have the S8 ULTRA. I did something with it that might be a solution for you and for others. What I did there is: I bought a cheap foldable protective stand and cut and removed carefully parts of the two lower protective edges of that cover until the lower half of the original samsung keyboard cover of the S8 ULTRA (the keyboard itself) was attachable. Additionally I had to secure the back of the cheap cover with some double-sided tape because of the removing of 2 of its edges. Android Digest says that the lower part of the S8 ULTRA keyboard cover still attaches to the S9 ULTRA. If that is the case (no pun intended😊) this solution might be helpful for those who understandably don't want to buy another Samsung keyboard cover. I hope the above makes sense as I am not a native speaker. (I am from Germany). As of writing these lines I haven't finished the video of Android Digest. But I have to say that within the first 6 minutes it covered already my questions (speakers and keyboard cover) and I really like it so far. Thanks to Android Digest. Amazing video and amazing pieces of advice. I watched every single video on the S9 series every day and read dozens of reviews. Your video is one of the very best. Personally I have come to the conclusions that: - I won't upgrade my 16GB RAM S8 ultra, since the 500 bucks trade-in where I live is not enough and I cannot sell it for 800 or more (I tried), so I'll keep it at least until the S10 ultra, at that point selling it for 500 might make sense and should not be too hard. - I purchased the S9 5G with the storage/RAM upgrade and book cover keyboard deal for 890, but I regretted it. I haven't opened it so I can return it for free (if I open it it's 20%...). I went and tried it in the shop and while the spearkers are amazing, it's not as confortable as my surface go 2 LTE and I also have an iPad pro 11 LTE with Magic Keyboard, so I realized I am pretty much covered if I want a tablet of that size, so spending another 900 bucks doesn't feel right. Maybe if at some point I find the same device at 500 used in a year or 2, that's another story... And as for the 12.x" size I have the S7FE which I love and the iPad pro 12.9, so covered there too... At this point I wouldn't use it enough since I already have so many device to use.... (I know, first world problems...) Anyway will continue to watch every single Galaxy tab video from you, they rock!
Thank you so much. Comments like this mean the world. Yeah if you already have even one tablet I don't think you would get much usage out of another one. It sounds like you have like three or four 😂. In your shoes, it seems like you're really an enthusiast in many ways. Which is great. But when the rubber meets the road, your Tab S8 Ultra is already 90% of the Tab S9 Ultra and the Tab S9 won't technically be better. The S9 Ultra would be but the cost is a lot for very little improvement. I can see why you would hold on to it. Especially with those four years of updates. Still, the time will come when the S9 Ultra goes on sale. And the time will come when they may be offer a good trade deal at the same time. So whether it's the Plus or the Ultra, there will eventually be a better time to upgrade down the line and you're not in any rush

Yep. I can see why someone would stick with their tablet if the battery life is good and they aren't having any issues. But there are still plenty of reasons to upgrade. Hope you enjoy your new tablet
So I used the S8 Ultra on Spirit and Frontier Airlines and it actually wasn't that bad using it with the keyboard for work and without for entertainment. And the ppl around me were absolutely amazed with the large screen and screen quality as I used it.
It's terrific, no doubt. Not everyone is like me, but I'd upgrade soon, even if it's black friday. Mainly because no more big software updates coming. You're about to be stuck with the same os, and I'd want 4 more years of updates personally. Almost a good time to start over. Outside of that though, you won't notice too much because the S7+ is already amazing.

@bleek2332 Im getting use to it. I'd be happier if i could find a ssturdyy case with and handle on the back of it so I can hold it one handed. If one isn't made soon ima return it. I'm 5'6, and this entire thing covers my entire forearm. I plan on using it like a notebook with a Bluetooth keyboard. I have no intentions of buying an attachable keyboard case. That's what a laptop is for.
They have a ton of cases that you are describing on amazon and samsung makes an exact case you are talking about. Give it like a week or two and spigen, UAG, otter box, esr, will all have options as well.
@bleek2332 I returned the iPad pro and got this instead . So far, it's much better. The pen is nicer, too . I just can't fathom how to hold this thing for notes and planning and TV watching. I'm not interested in sitting on a table with this thing. I want to treat it like a hand held notebook. I'd stick with the 9+. I will say/ the view is amazing, tho. It's prettier than my 2k desktop and my laptop.
At this price you have a lot of options that you get including like a Surface Pro 8 bundle, or even something like the Lenovo 7i or 5i 2 and 1 options which would be like half the price in some cases. So it's a pretty niche case to want a $1,200 Android tablet, $1,500 with the keyboard. But....to me one UI is perfect for a tablet. On the phone I prefer vertical app drawer and a little more simplicity, but the feature rich stuff with dez, s pen, good lock, SD card... It's just perfect for tablets. I still think for people that are not really rich, you're going to feel better about spending between $300 and $600 on one of these tablets even if you have to get an older generation on the resale market. But maybe if they keep making these ultras eventually we'll see them hit the resale market at $0.50 on the dollar.
so really depend on your location. For me, I used the very first iPad and every other iteration of it. Samsung had a massive trade in deals for years and I have been using Samsung tablet since s7 plus. I even sold couple of brand new s7 plus and s8 plus from my old iPad trade in to cover my s8 ultra and iPad Pro 12.9. Trade in this year is kind of shit compare to last few years but I still only spent 500$ for s9u with trade in. ~sorry, on my phone so my English is kind of shit too.
That's what I try to do. I try to make a video in a way that everyone can get what they need. I'll mention it's expensive so those who don't want to pay it will watch that and say "you're right I'm not paying". But for those who love the product, they will see the pros. For those who have older tablets, they will see that they can keep it and be okay. Try to reach everyone the best I can.
Oh that's frustrating that the new keyboard doesn't work (perfectly with the folio on the back as you mentioned)on the old devices and vice versa. It's too much to ask people to drop 300 bucks each time they upgrade to a new ultra
Great review and lots to consider on buying the Ultra. I do have a question though? I see a lot of reviews on the Ultra but, none ever show how MS Office 365 would work on the tablet. Would 365 run as good as it runs on an iPad? Hope you had a good weekend.
This is what I used amzn.to/3P4W5BQ - Keep in mind, they are very hard to put on with how big the screen is, sometimes I have to gently place a piece of index tape under the screen protector so I can barely lift it up, then I take another longer piece of index tape to slide it under to get off dust from the screen protector (without touching it). Dust so easily gets on them. You have to clean, wipe of prints, then I use sticky index tape or the dust removers and I get all the dust off, then I QUICKLY add the protector on. But I still miss a few pieces of dust often, and have to do a little surgery to get it perfect. Especially with a 14.6" screen. Hopefully this helps. Even though it says s8 ultra, it works on the s9 ultra. If you are looking for another option you can use sparin, which has been good for me. amzn.to/3QMnOID

Just picked up my Tab S9. Mostly like it but even that one is too big. I found myself wishing Samsung made a high end compact tablet that isn't the Z Fold. My Legion Tab Y700 looks tiny in comparison to the Tab S9.

@@Miguel-Del I ordered it off Giztop. I mostly like it but it does occasionally hang when I try to unlock after a while without use. I have also run into issues in the default gallery app and in Vivaldi (haven't checked with other browsers) where it would refuse to register inputs when I hold down on something to select more than one picture or to open up a menu to open something in a new tab. I could still use gesture navigation but nothing else. I would either have to wait for the battery to die or plug it into an external monitor and use its desktop mode to go into settings and set the auto turn off to within the next minute to reboot the tablet. The latter option doesn't always work. I don't think I've run into that again ever since I set it to automatically turn off every morning but I could be misremembering. I like that there's stylus support and a headphone jack. You will need to buy a stylus holder, though, since cases for it don't have one. You also have to charge the stylus by USB-C. The charge lasts a long time, on the up side. Another convenient feature I wish other tablets had is a switch on the sides that you can set to turn auto-rotate on or off. Makes it easier to do that than having to go through a menu. Software support hasn't been great. It's still running Android 12L and the last security patch is a few months old. It's not a bad tablet for the price. With stylus and case, it was something like $300-400 less than my 256 GB Tab S9. It runs the games I need it to run fairly well. Just know the tradeoffs involved.

I really should have tested that. I just sent back the tab s8 Ultra. I would love if someone had both if they could test it and post in the comments. But honestly to be safe I wouldn't risk it. Normally I would because normally it is backwards compatible. But this year now the s pen can turn both ways to charge. So I think it could have issues with older tablets. And on their website normally they list if it's backwards compatible and it's technically only listed for the S9 series. So I'd play it safe for now. But hopefully someone else can test it for us
The Ultra checks the boxes for me. Will use it for business productivity. The extra real estate will allow me to edit and build PowerPoints with room for Gmail to be open and working in a document w out toggling around all the time. I would say if portability is key, this might be a bit big

It's terrific, you would barely notice the difference day to day, but I think it's still close to upgrading time. Android updates are coming to an end for you. 4 years of updates on the new models.
With the cover, I bought the smart book cover for tab S9 Ultra EF-BX910PBEGWW at £94 used the back only for the S9 and kept my S8 ultra keyboard and it works when combining them.
At the very beginning of the video, the clock, battery, and wifi are in the bottom right corner, and it looks like a Windows computer. I want to do the same. How did you do that? Love the review btw!
That must be Samsung DeX. That's the laptop like environment that you can open up on this computer. Just changes the interface. You can just drag down the top bar and find that in the quick settings
Sorry for the late response, but that's complicated, when we are talking about tablets especially. Most tablet apps don't use anywhere close to the power even in this device. The M1 and M2 have a ton of extra power but it's just not needed. Even phones like the S21 Ultra and S20 are still extremely powerful today, and run almost any application. Games still run on high settings, most of them on older Android phones, so will this hold up? I definitely think so. I don't see any significant advantage to that Apple power, it will help you get higher on a benchmark, but in real world daily use, it's not that significant. This still flies through everything and I expect it will be the same a few years from now.

I don't think it's a significant difference as far as the PPI, I think it's all about if you want to pay that extra money for the extra screen size, similar quality outside of that.

Yeah I'm not sure about mounts. That's something that would take more research than I have time for right now, good luck though! This would be a beast in a truck.
I am a longtime Tab S7+ user. I know the Plus is the perfect size for me, which is why I'm watching this on the Tab S9 Plus. Still interested in your review, but for me, the Ultra would be a strictly tabletop device, and that's not how I use tablets.

It’s roughly the same size as as a Dell XPS 14, which is not a very big laptop. Yes, it’s a huge tablet, but in perspective, it’s really not all that big.
@@AndroidDigest I'll check it out! I need this as a laptop replacement. The plus is more convenient for watching movies on flights, but is much less convenient for productive work. I don't plan on trying to type with it on a flight, if that's what everybody's up in arms about. I usually just veg out with video content, usually with my tablet in the drawing position so it's lying almost flat on the tray table, propped up a bit. That way I can clearly see it, and if the person in front of me reclines their chair it's no biggie.
Yes. To be honest. But I don't think you have to go all the way to the ultra. You have to remember your Tab S6 is done with software updates. That will really hinder the longevity of the tablet. But the S9 series has 4 years of software updates. That's a big deal. Battery will be better, refresh rate, the display, even on the regular s9, they will have some good upgrades, maybe not as much as you would hope, but remember they should last, and that's important too.

That's a really tough call. I will say the keyboard case is the slim keyboard case. I don't think you'll like it anywhere close to your magic keyboard case. But I can see why you would want to get the tablet if you're already jumping into the Samsung ecosystem. I think it depends on which operating system you like the most. At that point if you do want a Galaxy tablet still, I'd go with the tab S9 Plus or the S9 Ultra depending on which size you want. iPads are terrific, they're better in many ways, and they are worse in some ways. It won't be a mind blowing upgrade. But it might be something where you just prefer Galaxy tablets. Or you may prefer iPads. Everyone is different. Sorry if I didn't help much. Just trying to give my thoughts and not make a decision for you. I don't want to say "oh by galaxy tablets because I like it.". I realize you may prefer something different and iPads are still pretty good. If you do end up buying feel free to use my links if you're in the US. Appreciate you watching

Why do these reviewers always talk about the price when they know samsung always has a deal no one pays full price for devices,I traded in my tab s8 and got it for $300.
My biggest pet peeve with reviewers, in the long run, is that they make all of their determinations based on the initial retail price, and they never factor in sales, trade-ins, or what sales to expect over the next 3-6 months, they give a final determination on a device, a review that will stay up for a year, within the first month. I try my best in my reviews to talk about what future sales might come and things like that, even if not in the initial review I do updated reviews through the year. I'm about to release my S9 Plus updated review, and my S9 Plus FE Updated Review, I'll eventually update for the S9 Ultra too. But a big talking point for me is always what sales we see going on. I mention the initial retail price yes, but it is good to point out the trade-ins. Samsung gives great elevated trade-ins which really bring things down, and I should probably mention that more, thanks for commenting.
I may do that eventually, gotta review everything first, then the accessories, so I'm getting to it. But my simple review: Slightly faster, slightly better battery life, slightly better screen. And water resistant. And you restart your software update cycle, 4 years of os updates. Is it worth it? The S8 Plus is the better value, but the S9 Plus is still a decent upgrade. That's a nutshell review.
@@AndroidDigest, sure ... but it's another story if the extra RAM actually helps the performance. I think on the s8 tabs it didn't improve the performance, and there were no apps that could use 16GB of RAM anyway, so it was mostly useless. I wonder if that's still the case in 2023(-24)?
Honestly, I would recommend the 12 GB of RAM for 99% of people. Even gamers on max settings. I think 16GB of RAM is only for the rarest of use cases. Maybe video editors or something editing 4k footage. Realistically I don't think you'll need it! But if you are in the rare use case maybe. RAM just dictates how many programs/apps you can have open in the background without them having to restart. Even 8 GB of RAM is plenty for most people, which is what the regular Tab S9 comes with. Just my take, hope it helps!

I would like to know if there is any difference between the 12GB & 16GB RAM version of s9 Ultra ? Tried searching every damn corner of the web to check... couldnt find anything at all :( Bought the 16GB noiw, and waiting for it (postage). Only for the most extreme use cases. The Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung's flagship high end phone only comes with 8GB of RAM. RAM primarily affects multitasking. So normally on a phone, you click open an app, it takes a second to load for the first time, and when you swipe it away it stays open in the background. Then you go to another app. RAM allows you to switch back and forth between those apps without having to restart them and wait for them to load. 8 GB of RAM may still let you have 10 or 15 apps open in the background without having to restart the app. But maybe 12 will bump that up to 20. Obviously I don't have the exact stats but the point is day to day those devices will perform the same. Everything will feel just as fast and speedy. The only difference will either be in restarting apps or maybe some very very very high end video editing or gaming. Those tasks may utilize more RAM. But for 98% of people they won't see a difference
If you ordered it, you're really stuck with it. You can return it and order another one, but they won't give any different promos. So it's a tough spot to be in!
If you're not over 6'4, The ultra might be a little bit too much for you. It can be used as a replacement for a laptop but kicking back and having this on you. It's just too big for chillin purposes.
I bought the plus version. Personally, I'm a big screen guy. But this time ultra is humongous. As I have to take the tab everyday to college, I have to choose the plus. The ultra will not fit in my bag and it's too heavy to carry.
12 or 16. I don't think you'll see much of a speed difference. Mainly just a few extra apps that won't close in the background. But the speed should be nearly the same.
I'd pick the Tab S9 Ultra. I haven't tried the Lenovo yet, but every Lenovo I've tried could be a good value, but their android tablets still have issues with software at times. And they are way worse with software updates. I'd prefer this for the longevity.
I talk about that towards the end of the video, I try to make something for everyone. There are plenty of reasons to upgrade, but it doesn't mean you should, $600 is a lot of money, not sure if you're getting $600 extra worth of upgrades. By that I'm assuming you'd get about $600 to trade in, so you'd still have to pay quite a bit, not sure it's worth it, but it will be to some people who value the upgrades.
It's really the battery life, the water resistance, and the processing speed. I think it's worth it for some people but I completely get why you wouldn't upgrade. It's a lot of money to upgrade for those things
There's more reasons. It's water resistant. It's faster, even if you won't notice a significant difference it's still faster. Also the latency is better on the s pen. Faster storage. Better battery life too
How would you compare the performance and battery to the prior tab s8? I have it and I love it except the battery and performance are insufficient sometimes. Also this is the best Samsung product w my s23 ultra close second. Also best tablet of 2023 This is why Samsung is better than Apple iPad pro . My Samsung tab s8 and the new s9 have gaming emulators and I was able to use my tab s8 and s23 ultra as controllers to project Mario Kart on my Samsung TV , Samsung Dex, smart view phone projection to screen for movies, Advanced edge panel and multi tasking like real computers, the ability to download anything from anywhere at any time, micro sd card, advanced s pen air commands, water resistant tablets etc . I still have my old iPhone 6s, and I learned many years ago that Samsung is superior to Apple, and it's no comparison with their flagship. They are the most fun devices I've ever used and they have features that when I use my sister's iPad I'm upset those features aren't there. Samsung has come a long way. I even have the s10 plus and it's no comparison to these new devices we can see how superior they are. SAMSUNG performance with the new snapdragon and battery is on another level . I get 8 - 15 hours a day on my s23 ultra with multi tasking. I love my s23 ultra more than the 14 pro max in terms of user experience, the only thing 14 pro might be better at is selfie , video sometimes , and imessage that's about it
It's a little bit better, with the ultra you have to remember it's a much larger screen, you may get a couple of extra hours of screen time though due to the more efficient processor, the Tab 8's didn't have great efficiency.
I think its too big for me I just got the galaxy tab s8 plus not to long ago and it's borderline too big for me to carry around the house the ultra is cool though but it just would not be a fit for me the $500 trade in credit on the s9 plus was tempting but paying another $500 for the s9 plus just doesn't seem feasible right now I think I'll just wait awhile
That's what I've been saying! The S9 Plus is more tempting for others, I think you have a good decision you're making though, it's not THAT much better that you have to upgrade. Good decision for now.
That's just not my experience at all. Yes, it's a little slower with benchmarks but day to day I don't notice any difference. But regardless, I'm glad you're able to share in the comments because people need to hear about all experiences
I read all of the comments just to see if there was one like this... I knew I couldn't be the only one to notice. I couldn't hardly watch most of the video because of this... Honestly, I had to purposely blur my vision. Either someone slammed his finger in a car door when he was little or that is some serious double-jointing occurring. Love the display and sound on my s9 ultra, but hate the underscreen finger sensor and have found it's surprisingly not as powerful as my s7. Many of my games actually run slower and can't support as high game resolution as run in s7. This might be due to the tablet still learning, so I will wait and see.The slim keyboard is definitely not worth the money
Yes, for me the bigger the better. Love this new Samsung. Traded in my S8. The S9 has better battery life, better sound quality and very sharp screen, vivid colors!
It's not great for movies. There are no Android apps with hdr support. Ipad Pro is better here. Especially bad quality is in streaming apps like Netflix. The biggest issue is low brightness in Dolby Vision movies.

My LG oled tv has lower max brightness than tab s9 ultra but brightness in movies is much higher and quality is also better. There is no comparision.

The Ultra comes with 12 GB in the base model, but you can get a model that's up to 16 GB if you pay extra. RAM does not increase your speed. It simply allows you to have more things open in the background without them closing out. So most people won't even notice the difference because most people won't even fill up 12 GB of RAM. Even if they do, they won't even notice the 10th app in the background being closed. So it's not really a speed thing

Upgraded my tab s8 ultra 512gb to the s9u 1tb and im glad i did. I love the snap dragon 8 gen 2 and its performance, the other upgrades with the display, cooling and storage upgrade is nice as well. Samsung def needs to lower the price of the keyboard book cover or do a better promotion or atleast let you trade in the previous book cover.

Same here and I love my S9 Ultra 1TB but the price for the Tab plus here in Germany no offer for a Keyboard Cover, I had to invest extra.
I loooooved the 8 gen 2 when I traded in my S22U for the S23U. Longer battery life was what I needed the most out of the phone.
UFS 4.0 is really nice for transferring files or moving them from folder to folder.
If Samsung offered a trade-in for the keyboard or the S8 Ultra keyboard worked with the S9 Ultra, I would have upgraded. I don't want to buy another keyboard for $350.
@gsogymrat I have the S8 ULTRA. I did something with it that might be a solution for you and for others. What I did there is:
I bought a cheap foldable protective stand and cut and removed carefully parts of the two lower protective edges of that cover until the lower half of the original samsung keyboard cover of the S8 ULTRA (the keyboard itself) was attachable. Additionally I had to secure the back of the cheap cover with some double-sided tape because of the removing of 2 of its edges.
Android Digest says that the lower part of the S8 ULTRA keyboard cover still attaches to the S9 ULTRA. If that is the case (no pun intended😊) this solution might be helpful for those who understandably don't want to buy another Samsung keyboard cover.
I hope the above makes sense as I am not a native speaker. (I am from Germany).

Amazing video and amazing pieces of advice. I watched every single video on the S9 series every day and read dozens of reviews. Your video is one of the very best. Personally I have come to the conclusions that:
- I won't upgrade my 16GB RAM S8 ultra, since the 500 bucks trade-in where I live is not enough and I cannot sell it for 800 or more (I tried), so I'll keep it at least until the S10 ultra, at that point selling it for 500 might make sense and should not be too hard.
- I purchased the S9 5G with the storage/RAM upgrade and book cover keyboard deal for 890, but I regretted it. I haven't opened it so I can return it for free (if I open it it's 20%...). I went and tried it in the shop and while the spearkers are amazing, it's not as confortable as my surface go 2 LTE and I also have an iPad pro 11 LTE with Magic Keyboard, so I realized I am pretty much covered if I want a tablet of that size, so spending another 900 bucks doesn't feel right. Maybe if at some point I find the same device at 500 used in a year or 2, that's another story...
And as for the 12.x" size I have the S7FE which I love and the iPad pro 12.9, so covered there too...
At this point I wouldn't use it enough since I already have so many device to use.... (I know, first world problems...) Anyway will continue to watch every single Galaxy tab video from you, they rock!

In your shoes, it seems like you're really an enthusiast in many ways. Which is great. But when the rubber meets the road, your Tab S8 Ultra is already 90% of the Tab S9 Ultra and the Tab S9 won't technically be better. The S9 Ultra would be but the cost is a lot for very little improvement. I can see why you would hold on to it. Especially with those four years of updates. Still, the time will come when the S9 Ultra goes on sale. And the time will come when they may be offer a good trade deal at the same time. So whether it's the Plus or the Ultra, there will eventually be a better time to upgrade down the line and you're not in any rush

It's terrific, no doubt. Not everyone is like me, but I'd upgrade soon, even if it's black friday. Mainly because no more big software updates coming. You're about to be stuck with the same os, and I'd want 4 more years of updates personally. Almost a good time to start over. Outside of that though, you won't notice too much because the S7+ is already amazing.

@bleek2332 Im getting use to it. I'd be happier if i could find a ssturdyy case with and handle on the back of it so I can hold it one handed. If one isn't made soon ima return it. I'm 5'6, and this entire thing covers my entire forearm. I plan on using it like a notebook with a Bluetooth keyboard. I have no intentions of buying an attachable keyboard case. That's what a laptop is for.
They have a ton of cases that you are describing on amazon and samsung makes an exact case you are talking about. Give it like a week or two and spigen, UAG, otter box, esr, will all have options as well.
@bleek2332 I returned the iPad pro and got this instead . So far, it's much better. The pen is nicer, too . I just can't fathom how to hold this thing for notes and planning and TV watching. I'm not interested in sitting on a table with this thing. I want to treat it like a hand held notebook. I'd stick with the 9+. I will say/ the view is amazing, tho. It's prettier than my 2k desktop and my laptop.

At this price you have a lot of options that you get including like a Surface Pro 8 bundle, or even something like the Lenovo 7i or 5i 2 and 1 options which would be like half the price in some cases. So it's a pretty niche case to want a $1,200 Android tablet, $1,500 with the keyboard. But....to me one UI is perfect for a tablet. On the phone I prefer vertical app drawer and a little more simplicity, but the feature rich stuff with dez, s pen, good lock, SD card... It's just perfect for tablets.
I still think for people that are not really rich, you're going to feel better about spending between $300 and $600 on one of these tablets even if you have to get an older generation on the resale market.
But maybe if they keep making these ultras eventually we'll see them hit the resale market at $0.50 on the dollar.

so really depend on your location. For me, I used the very first iPad and every other iteration of it. Samsung had a massive trade in deals for years and I have been using Samsung tablet since s7 plus. I even sold couple of brand new s7 plus and s8 plus from my old iPad trade in to cover my s8 ultra and iPad Pro 12.9. Trade in this year is kind of shit compare to last few years but I still only spent 500$ for s9u with trade in.

That's what I try to do. I try to make a video in a way that everyone can get what they need. I'll mention it's expensive so those who don't want to pay it will watch that and say "you're right I'm not paying". But for those who love the product, they will see the pros. For those who have older tablets, they will see that they can keep it and be okay. Try to reach everyone the best I can.
Just curious, what did you think of the speakers? Samsung advertised 20% larger speakers and punchier bass.
They do see nicer. Not significantly but they are a little bit louder and sound a little nicer.
Oh that's frustrating that the new keyboard doesn't work (perfectly with the folio on the back as you mentioned)on the old devices and vice versa. It's too much to ask people to drop 300 bucks each time they upgrade to a new ultra

This is what I used amzn.to/3P4W5BQ - Keep in mind, they are very hard to put on with how big the screen is, sometimes I have to gently place a piece of index tape under the screen protector so I can barely lift it up, then I take another longer piece of index tape to slide it under to get off dust from the screen protector (without touching it). Dust so easily gets on them. You have to clean, wipe of prints, then I use sticky index tape or the dust removers and I get all the dust off, then I QUICKLY add the protector on. But I still miss a few pieces of dust often, and have to do a little surgery to get it perfect. Especially with a 14.6" screen. Hopefully this helps. Even though it says s8 ultra, it works on the s9 ultra. If you are looking for another option you can use sparin, which has been good for me. amzn.to/3QMnOID

Just picked up my Tab S9. Mostly like it but even that one is too big. I found myself wishing Samsung made a high end compact tablet that isn't the Z Fold. My Legion Tab Y700 looks tiny in comparison to the Tab S9.

@@Miguel-Del I ordered it off Giztop. I mostly like it but it does occasionally hang when I try to unlock after a while without use. I have also run into issues in the default gallery app and in Vivaldi (haven't checked with other browsers) where it would refuse to register inputs when I hold down on something to select more than one picture or to open up a menu to open something in a new tab.
I could still use gesture navigation but nothing else. I would either have to wait for the battery to die or plug it into an external monitor and use its desktop mode to go into settings and set the auto turn off to within the next minute to reboot the tablet. The latter option doesn't always work. I don't think I've run into that again ever since I set it to automatically turn off every morning but I could be misremembering.
I like that there's stylus support and a headphone jack. You will need to buy a stylus holder, though, since cases for it don't have one. You also have to charge the stylus by USB-C. The charge lasts a long time, on the up side. Another convenient feature I wish other tablets had is a switch on the sides that you can set to turn auto-rotate on or off. Makes it easier to do that than having to go through a menu.
Software support hasn't been great. It's still running Android 12L and the last security patch is a few months old.
It's not a bad tablet for the price. With stylus and case, it was something like $300-400 less than my 256 GB Tab S9. It runs the games I need it to run fairly well. Just know the tradeoffs involved.

I really should have tested that. I just sent back the tab s8 Ultra. I would love if someone had both if they could test it and post in the comments. But honestly to be safe I wouldn't risk it. Normally I would because normally it is backwards compatible. But this year now the s pen can turn both ways to charge. So I think it could have issues with older tablets. And on their website normally they list if it's backwards compatible and it's technically only listed for the S9 series. So I'd play it safe for now. But hopefully someone else can test it for us
The Ultra checks the boxes for me. Will use it for business productivity. The extra real estate will allow me to edit and build PowerPoints with room for Gmail to be open and working in a document w out toggling around all the time. I would say if portability is key, this might be a bit big

It's terrific, you would barely notice the difference day to day, but I think it's still close to upgrading time. Android updates are coming to an end for you. 4 years of updates on the new models.

With the cover, I bought the smart book cover for tab S9 Ultra EF-BX910PBEGWW at £94 used the back only for the S9 and kept my S8 ultra keyboard and it works when combining them.

That must be Samsung DeX. That's the laptop like environment that you can open up on this computer. Just changes the interface. You can just drag down the top bar and find that in the quick settings

What do you think about its longevity performance wise in comparison to iPads (M1/M2 chips specifically)
Sorry for the late response, but that's complicated, when we are talking about tablets especially. Most tablet apps don't use anywhere close to the power even in this device. The M1 and M2 have a ton of extra power but it's just not needed. Even phones like the S21 Ultra and S20 are still extremely powerful today, and run almost any application. Games still run on high settings, most of them on older Android phones, so will this hold up? I definitely think so. I don't see any significant advantage to that Apple power, it will help you get higher on a benchmark, but in real world daily use, it's not that significant. This still flies through everything and I expect it will be the same a few years from now.

I don't think it's a significant difference as far as the PPI, I think it's all about if you want to pay that extra money for the extra screen size, similar quality outside of that.

I am a longtime Tab S7+ user. I know the Plus is the perfect size for me, which is why I'm watching this on the Tab S9 Plus. Still interested in your review, but for me, the Ultra would be a strictly tabletop device, and that's not how I use tablets.

It’s roughly the same size as as a Dell XPS 14, which is not a very big laptop. Yes, it’s a huge tablet, but in perspective, it’s really not all that big.

I don't plan on trying to type with it on a flight, if that's what everybody's up in arms about. I usually just veg out with video content, usually with my tablet in the drawing position so it's lying almost flat on the tray table, propped up a bit.
That way I can clearly see it, and if the person in front of me reclines their chair it's no biggie.

Yes. To be honest. But I don't think you have to go all the way to the ultra. You have to remember your Tab S6 is done with software updates. That will really hinder the longevity of the tablet. But the S9 series has 4 years of software updates. That's a big deal. Battery will be better, refresh rate, the display, even on the regular s9, they will have some good upgrades, maybe not as much as you would hope, but remember they should last, and that's important too.
I change my tablet every 5 years. I use only for media consumption. And now they are too expensive.
Yeah, very expensive. May want to wait for the Tab S8 or S9 FE whenever it comes out, that may be a good alternative.

I have IPad Pro M2 and Magic Keyboard. I also have Z Fold 4 (getting the 5). There’s a deal here for a free keyboard case with the S9 Ultra and the S9 plus. Can’t decide what to do
That's a really tough call. I will say the keyboard case is the slim keyboard case. I don't think you'll like it anywhere close to your magic keyboard case. But I can see why you would want to get the tablet if you're already jumping into the Samsung ecosystem.
I think it depends on which operating system you like the most. At that point if you do want a Galaxy tablet still, I'd go with the tab S9 Plus or the S9 Ultra depending on which size you want. iPads are terrific, they're better in many ways, and they are worse in some ways. It won't be a mind blowing upgrade. But it might be something where you just prefer Galaxy tablets. Or you may prefer iPads. Everyone is different.
Sorry if I didn't help much. Just trying to give my thoughts and not make a decision for you. I don't want to say "oh by galaxy tablets because I like it.". Why do these reviewers always talk about the price when they know samsung always has a deal no one pays full price for devices,I traded in my tab s8 and got it for $300.
My biggest pet peeve with reviewers, in the long run, is that they make all of their determinations based on the initial retail price, and they never factor in sales, trade-ins, or what sales to expect over the next 3-6 months, they give a final determination on a device, a review that will stay up for a year, within the first month. I try my best in my reviews to talk about what future sales might come and things like that, even if not in the initial review I do updated reviews through the year. I'm about to release my S9 Plus updated review, and my S9 Plus FE Updated Review, I'll eventually update for the S9 Ultra too. But a big talking point for me is always what sales we see going on. I mention the initial retail price yes, but it is good to point out the trade-ins. Samsung gives great elevated trade-ins which really bring things down, and I should probably mention that more, thanks for commenting.
Please do a comparison review of the Tab S8 Plus vs. the Tab S9 Plus.
I may do that eventually, gotta review everything first, then the accessories, so I'm getting to it. But my simple review: Slightly faster, slightly better battery life, slightly better screen. And water resistant. And you restart your software update cycle, 4 years of os updates. Is it worth it? The S8 Plus is the better value, but the S9 Plus is still a decent upgrade. That's a nutshell review.
The Plus has a 512GB storage option, and the Ultra has 1TB storage and 16GB RAM (up from 12 for the others)

Honestly, I would recommend the 12 GB of RAM for 99% of people. Even gamers on max settings. I think 16GB of RAM is only for the rarest of use cases. Maybe video editors or something editing 4k footage. Realistically I don't think you'll need it! But if you are in the rare use case maybe. RAM just dictates how many programs/apps you can have open in the background without them having to restart. Even 8 GB of RAM is plenty for most people, which is what the regular Tab S9 comes with. Just my take, hope it helps!

Only for the most extreme use cases. The Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung's flagship high end phone only comes with 8GB of RAM. RAM primarily affects multitasking. So normally on a phone, you click open an app, it takes a second to load for the first time, and when you swipe it away it stays open in the background. Then you go to another app. RAM allows you to switch back and forth between those apps without having to restart them and wait for them to load. 8 GB of RAM may still let you have 10 or 15 apps open in the background without having to restart the app. But maybe 12 will bump that up to 20. Obviously I don't have the exact stats but the point is day to day those devices will perform the same. Everything will feel just as fast and speedy. The only difference will either be in restarting apps or maybe some very very very high end video editing or gaming. Those tasks may utilize more RAM. But for 98% of people they won't see a difference

If you ordered it, you're really stuck with it. You can return it and order another one, but they won't give any different promos. So it's a tough spot to be in!
If you're not over 6'4, The ultra might be a little bit too much for you. It can be used as a replacement for a laptop but kicking back and having this on you. It's just too big for chillin purposes.

I bought the plus version. Personally, I'm a big screen guy. But this time ultra is humongous. As I have to take the tab everyday to college, I have to choose the plus. The ultra will not fit in my bag and it's too heavy to carry.
I think the Plus is a big screen still, it's just underrated because it's not the "ultra". I think you will enjoy it.

12 or 16. I don't think you'll see much of a speed difference. Mainly just a few extra apps that won't close in the background. But the speed should be nearly the same.
So the main question, Lenovo Tab Extreme or Samsung Tab S9 Ultra?
I'd pick the Tab S9 Ultra. I haven't tried the Lenovo yet, but every Lenovo I've tried could be a good value, but their android tablets still have issues with software at times. And they are way worse with software updates. I'd prefer this for the longevity.

I talk about that towards the end of the video, I try to make something for everyone. There are plenty of reasons to upgrade, but it doesn't mean you should, $600 is a lot of money, not sure if you're getting $600 extra worth of upgrades. By that I'm assuming you'd get about $600 to trade in, so you'd still have to pay quite a bit, not sure it's worth it, but it will be to some people who value the upgrades.

It's really the battery life, the water resistance, and the processing speed. I think it's worth it for some people but I completely get why you wouldn't upgrade. It's a lot of money to upgrade for those things

There's more reasons. It's water resistant. It's faster, even if you won't notice a significant difference it's still faster. Also the latency is better on the s pen. Faster storage. Better battery life too
How would you compare the performance and battery to the prior tab s8? I have it and I love it except the battery and performance are insufficient sometimes. Also this is the best Samsung product w my s23 ultra close second. Also best tablet of 2023
This is why Samsung is better than Apple iPad pro . My Samsung tab s8 and the new s9 have gaming emulators and I was able to use my tab s8 and s23 ultra as controllers to project Mario Kart on my Samsung TV , Samsung Dex, smart view phone projection to screen for movies, Advanced edge panel and multi tasking like real computers, the ability to download anything from anywhere at any time, micro sd card, advanced s pen air commands, water resistant tablets etc . I still have my old iPhone 6s, and I learned many years ago that Samsung is superior to Apple, and it's no comparison with their flagship. They are the most fun devices I've ever used and they have features that when I use my sister's iPad I'm upset those features aren't there. Samsung has come a long way. I even have the s10 plus and it's no comparison to these new devices we can see how superior they are. SAMSUNG performance with the new snapdragon and battery is on another level . I get 8 - 15 hours a day on my s23 ultra with multi tasking. I love my s23 ultra more than the 14 pro max in terms of user experience, the only thing 14 pro might be better at is selfie , video sometimes , and imessage that's about it
It's a little bit better, with the ultra you have to remember it's a much larger screen, you may get a couple of extra hours of screen time though due to the more efficient processor, the Tab 8's didn't have great efficiency.
I'll trade in my s8 ultra when Samsung has better offers. I'm sure we'll get good deals for black Friday.

I think its too big for me I just got the galaxy tab s8 plus not to long ago and it's borderline too big for me to carry around the house the ultra is cool though but it just would not be a fit for me the $500 trade in credit on the s9 plus was tempting but paying another $500 for the s9 plus just doesn't seem feasible right now I think I'll just wait awhile
That's what I've been saying! The S9 Plus is more tempting for others, I think you have a good decision you're making though, it's not THAT much better that you have to upgrade. Good decision for now.
i have an iPad pro, and the Samsung S9 is slower than the ipad, and the streaming on netflix/disney/prime etc is very bad, the frame rate is bad
That's just not my experience at all. Yes, it's a little slower with benchmarks but day to day I don't notice any difference. But regardless, I'm glad you're able to share in the comments because people need to hear about all experiences

I read all of the comments just to see if there was one like this... I knew I couldn't be the only one to notice. I couldn't hardly watch most of the video because of this... Honestly, I had to purposely blur my vision. Either someone slammed his finger in a car door when he was little or that is some serious double-jointing occurring. My mind hurt trying to figure out where exactly he was pointing. :) Not trying to be mean, just an observation. An ex-girlfriend of mine had the same issue.

Love the display and sound on my s9 ultra, but hate the underscreen finger sensor and have found it's surprisingly not as powerful as my s7. Many of my games actually run slower and can't support as high game resolution as run in s7. This might be due to the tablet still learning, so I will wait and see.The slim keyboard is definitely not worth the money
Yeah, give it some time! It definitely benchmarks higher, so maybe the software needs some updates or something.

It's not great for movies. There are no Android apps with hdr support. Ipad Pro is better here. Especially bad quality is in streaming apps like Netflix. The biggest issue is low brightness in Dolby Vision movies.

My LG oled tv has lower max brightness than tab s9 ultra but brightness in movies is much higher and quality is also better. There is no comparision.

The Ultra comes with 12 GB in the base model, but you can get a model that's up to 16 GB if you pay extra. RAM does not increase your speed. It simply allows you to have more things open in the background without them closing out. So most people won't even notice the difference because most people won't even fill up 12 GB of RAM. Even if they do, they won't even notice the 10th app in the background being closed. So it's not really a speed thing
