- The Government will end the use of the Bibby Stockholm barge for housing migrants off England’s south coast as part of an overhaul of the asylum system, the Home Office has announced.
The contract for the barge moored in Dorset will not be renewed past January as demand for such accommodation will be reduced by moves to clear the asylum backlog, the department said.
The vessel was one of several sites, including the military bases RAF Wethersfield in Essex and RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, used by the previous Tory government in a bid to cut the cost of housing migrants in hotels.
But the new Labour Government said continuing the use of the Bibby Stockholm would have cost more than £20 million next year, and that scrapping it forms part of the expected £7.7 billion of savings in asylum costs over the next 10 years.
Talk's Dr David Bull is joined by commentator Emma Woolf, who says the barge was "the craziest plan ever" by the Conservatives in the first place.

Perhaps a radical idea, but how about using the social housing and other accommodation for our homeless rather than moving illegal immigrants into it, leaving them on the Bibby Stockholm?

I was talking to my wife in London last week while walking around Camden when an American couple approached us to say that we were the first Londoners (due to our accents) they’d heard since arriving a day earlier. When most sensible people can see that the country needs sorting out immigration needs stopping, but why on earth don't politicians wake up to reality and do something about it before it gets any worse, as in the end someone will have to sort it out.

I feel the need to point out that we do not need this many foreign worker's in the social care sector. They're taking British worker's jobs. Especially in regards to care agency jobs. The foreigners are getting work over the British worker's, because companies have sponsored them

We don't require a referendum on leaving the ECHR, all the government has to do is announce, a National State of Emergency, and I think you will find that there is nothing the ECHR can do about it.
Unemployed migrants should be made to work! Off the boat and into the local Job Centre.
And what's going to happen employers who need unskilled workers will employ them over our own unemployed for less then minimum wage.

Its £153,000 for three days a week for GPs/Partners. In my day, GPs worked a lot harder than that. in the 80s they were still visiting people at home in emergencies, in those days, GPs really knew the families that they were helping. Now the government plans to make GPs responsible for getting people back to work, that's not their job. Because the British people were kind to the Ukrainian families, the government expects the British people to open their homes to the illegal criminals that are arriving on our shores. The Bibby Stockholm is a floating hotel, no reason why that couldn't continued to be used for illegals, in fact, it is too good for them. Richard Tice made a great maiden speech.
So it was goid enough for British workers to be accommodated on this barge - but not good enough for migrants fleeing for theor lives from wartorn countries.

Some of these carers getting in from abroad on a visa ticket ,do not speak English,do not understand English, these are visiting home carers,one was only interesting to how she could get big house for family. I believe some are just abusing the system to get in to the country,

Some people with low ability and low ability are happy to stay home getting money for nothing. Others who try for jobs get fed up as they get refusals . If there are 5 million not working but only 1 million vacancies, how does that work. We never hear what the actual figures are do we ???
I went off sick in 2010 for a knee replacement and the process of claiming this benefit caused me so much anxiety and stress that it manifested that I was suffering PTSD,s and other mental health issues. I have never received treatment for these conditions because none was avaible. Maybe sort out the NHS to where the sick get treatment quicker.

Shut down the NHS put in a purely private insurance medical system, with no NI payments taken for the NHS, but automatically paid to fund the medical insurance. Then no requirement to register with a specific GP, and GPs only get paid on face-to-face appointments and patient survey statistics....watch the quality of availability and performance improve!!!!

Three weeks waiting for phone consultation with GPs upto a month waiting for appointments for injections I should have had on of 20th may I'm now coming up to three months over due my treatment since the hospital put it back with my GP I've been waiting 5 years for both knees replaced i received a phone call 3 weeks ago asking me if i still wanted it doing ? when i said yes i was told i would be waiting another 2 years minimum before i can have the operation. Im 66 and with out assistance I'm house bound due to mobility problems my appointment 22 august for the injection there supposed to be every 3 months the doctors got my referral to their care in February a referral they didn't know they'd received until I chased it up 5 doctors available and we haven't got back to anywhere near the appointment levels before lock down empty waiting rooms and months to be seen .
Yeah the people on lower wages have to pay congestion and ulez charges every working day coming into London and leaving to work in the care jobs, from hospital cleaners,delivery drivers, ect. Then the fact that the majority of these migrants do not Speak English and are not trained to care for old or sick people. We may need extra people but not illigally.
Its ok for these politicians on massive wages they haven't got a clue if the need medical attention there is no wait my son sufferd with his mental health he couldn't get the proper help he needed he commented suicide his life was just as important as every other person on this earth
