How These Flame-Throwing Tractors Kill Weeds
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 сер 2024
- These tractors are equipped with torches and propane tanks and are used to kill weeds. Today, it's commonly used for corn and soybean crops. This non-chemical method of weed control has been around for over a century. BigYield.us helps break down how the process works and how they use flame weeders in their own fields.

How These Flame-Throwing Tractors Kill Weeds - Наука та технологія
BTU is not temperature, it's the amount of energy transferred.
Because they just couldn't say °C or °F
Credibility went down. They don't know what they're talking about. Just regurgitating from a script...
Wiki says: The British thermal unit is a traditional unit of heat; it is defined as the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit. It is also part of the United States customary units.

So then it’s the energy needed to raise something a certain temperature. Sounds like a unit of energy to me.

I’m sum the video up for you guys! Rather than setting the whole field on fire randomly like done previously a tractor is used for more control. A less toxic more controlled accelerant as well

I know you're trying to be funny, but this makes no sense to those of us that have snow in the winter. Would you rather shovel snow or melt it all down into a slushy mess that then refreezes into a sheet of ice? I choose a snowblower.

Ghost Rider would be proud.
a heat unit is not a temperature lady , It's just a measurement of energy like the joule and calorie
BTU is not a measure of temperature, it's a measure of heat energy.
I though of this couple years ago, when I was using copper pipe soldering flame torch to kill bugs and weeds around the house.
but, obviously someone thought of this 100 years ago.
200 years ago well kinda in the 40s it be
The farmer is passing gas to kill the weeds. He's smoking a little weed. He makes an ash of the weeds. The weeds are fired up about the treatment. The weeds are getting burned on the deal. I hear this system is really hot right now. Hank Hill would love this system. The video is lit. Afterwards the weeds are hosed.
No need to get all fired up about this video...
Is it possible to use less propane and get higher temperatures if you add an oxygen tank and oxygen to the fuel mixture?
No because already less fule is being pushed out so they have more than enough natural O2 to burn.
hmmmm carrots with that organic taste of propane
a LOT better then pesticides

We do the same thing in texas but we use flanethrowers
The first comment that makes sense and is referring to that video.
Interesting technique, Is the soil still fertile afterwards?
Its not burning the ground for too much time. It just pass by it and burn the upper layer of the weeds leaves so they cannot photosynthesis anymore and die
Instead of asking about the soil, we should ask about the worm inside the soil, will they get burned because of the heat? Worm is an essential organism to make your soil good.
The soil has a huge thermal mass, so the flames would not raise the temperature significantly. A sunny day would raise the temperature much more. Even if worms and other organisms in the soil got too warm or dry, they would just burrow deeper underground.

The narrator thinks BTU is a form of temp measure??? How informative. Not.
Woah!! F I R E ! ! !
*Hank Hill has joined the chat*
Who uses BTU for a flame temperature?
Insider lmao
BTU isn't even a unit of temperature. The narrator was given a number for the energy output rating of flamethrower (kinda like watts but for heat) and misinterpreted it as a unit of temperature.

What about the moisture of the soil ? And eco system of the surrounding ?
Water gun behind the flamthrowers would be nice
What ecosistem in field of corns... stop talking shit
@@nyankosensey1531 ants, little lizard, worms, some kind like that. Every region has its own ecosystem. Even you also can find ecosystem in city.
Moisture content of the soil is not affected, in farming ecosystems are purposely unbalanced to favor crop growth, to increase yield, size and vigor. If we did not do any pest control, people would be paying 10$ for an ear of corn, head of lettuce etc with horrible quality.
Didn’t know that we measure temperature in btu’s... lol
What's BTU again?
ps: Im not American
Soft_Enigma BTU is a unit of measurement for energy. One BTU is equal to the amount of energy used to raise the temperature of one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit
You don't. BTU is not a unit of temperature. BTU is a unit of energy like J, kWh and calories. BTU is usually used to describe heat energy transferred.
@@XxwalaweixX BTU = British Thermal Unit.
Say what you will about roundup, that commercial from the 90s was amazing.
And shortly after the name Hank became not so cool.😁
How many gallons to the acer?
This looks like you would make this in dead rising lol
Please just use SI units for heat etc, BTU doesn't say anything at all about the temperature of the flame... 🙄
BTU is not a unit of measurement for temperature. It is a unit of measurement for *energy transfer* commonly used for thermal control devices like A/Cs and heaters. The narrator misinterpreted the numbers as temperature when it was never meant to describe temperature.
Cool.

- Buys 1000 Rabits at the flea market.
Why did you said BTU, why don't you use Fahrenheit or Celcius units?
Because they weren't given temperature specs. They were given heat transfer specs, and the narrator misinterpreted them as a unit of temperature when BTUs are a unit of energy like J, kWh or calories.
What about the emissions from this?
Low. Propane burns very cleanly.
@@TheMetalButcher propane may burn clean...the weeds dont.
@@V1Pin The idea is not to burn the weeds. Just wilt them. You're wasting fuel if you burn them.
@@TheMetalButcher except you see the wilting done only when the crop is knee high... you can see very clearly in the video, several instances where the weed is freely burning when the main crop isn't present.
The Metal Butcher LPG/propane has greater greenhouse emissions than coal.

Same music (first one) used in Farming Simulator 17. Coincidence?
I'm wondering if roundup or flaming is better in terms of killing good/bad insects and microorganisms.
I use propane flaming in my home garden and if you keep moving it only heats the weed tops. Most plastic irrigation pipe and anything under a fraction of an inch under the soil ( like frogs, microorganisms etc) never gets the heat.
