I wish I had a lathe now 😁 any suggestions for those of us without one?
Sure! Buy some hardwood dowel rods in the outside diameter you will need and cut them into pieces about the thickness you want. Carefully mark and drill out your center hole. If you want a taper with a radius like I did here, you can use a round chainsaw file to cut it in. Sand it down and apply some finish to seal the wood. Time consuming and it would take a good eye to keep everything symmetrical but doable 👍
Your attention to detail is phenomenal. It's a pleasure to see your enjoy your craft. I wish I had those type of woodworking skills.
Thank you. It is so easy I can even do it...I probably make it look harder than it is 😆
Nice looking thread check...excellent idea.
Hello Friend! Many thanks! Like 4
The craftsmanship and effort levels from your channel are unmatched 🔥💯
Wow .. just awesome!
You have some really nice equipment to get the work done. The only power equipment I have is a grinder to sharpen lawn mower blades and stuff. lol
I do and thanks! Most of my tools have paid for themselves many times over! I buy most of them used so that helps a lot.
Interesting. I think your type of lathe is better than my Jet wood working lathe for small parts like that. Although, I would rather have your type of lathe, it is more versatile. Mineral oil is a great all around great product to use.
Mineral oil is a great choice, thanks for mentioning it 👍
I have a wood lathe in my shop, but the lighting isn't very good where it is. I have better lighting at my metal turning lathe so I'm going to be using it for the videos. It is definitely built for precision work.
@@TheFishingHobby I don’t blame you, I would love to have one (metal lathe) but unfortunately all my hobbies are expensive ones. I just got a blank from Mudhole so I can make a new rod for a Van Staal I just bought. I would like to be done by next week, the tides are great! Don’t think I will make it.
What about just running the epoxy all the way up the check as a sealant?
Thread finish epoxy, not structural epoxy.
You could do that if you wanted to. I like the way wood looks without a lot of built up finish on top of it personally, but it wouldn't hurt anything to do that if that is what you wanted to do.
What do you use to seal cork
I don't seal cork. I think U40 cork seal is a popular choice for a lot of people.
