During Mutard's mugshot... if you do the math regarding Bronco's bank account, you can calculate the annual interest rate on his savings account to be roughly 9.97% (i.e. the 20th root of 6.7). Pretty sweet compared to today! And if you look at a chart of historical prime interest rate, in late 1988 when this case aired on TV, it was exactly 10% at the time! :-)
Sweet compared to today, yes, but that’s why they put the caveat of “if the market stayed healthy” in it. Realistically he should have put everything into the money market account. It would have been safe and produced a decent, if diminishing, return.
This is one of those episode where the Mathnetters meet somebody whom they think is a nice guy until later on he or she shows their true colors and turns out to be a criminal.
It's also one of those episodes where, in reverse, the Mathnetters actually meet someone who they think is quite sinister only to discover that said person is actually quite friendly and harmless.
The "Nuestra Señora de Atocha" was a sort of myth until Mel Fisher devoted 17 years of his life to searching for it. He found it in 1985 and it is to this day the largest treasure ship ever found.
I like that George & Kate are so comfortable with each other at this point that he just reaches up and pulls a ruler out of her pants instead of just asking her for it. (29:24)
This seems to be the earliest episode they filmed for season 2. In all the other season 2 episodes (except for "The Case of the Deceptive Data"), it was "What Do We Know".
39:19 -- Or as Mr. Glitch would say, Rats-o-fratz.
It was a great show. Kinda like seeing an old friend you haven't seen in 20 yrs
That line at the phone booth though...
Yeah, I lolled at that ... where'd they all come from?!
The "other part of the map" scene is perfect - obviously whoever hid the treasure wanted to poke fun by dividing the game into two parts!
KarlBonner1982 Of course, b/c from the person who hid the treasure, he wouldn't wanna make it appear too easy for anyone else to find it.

He didn't want a marijuana necktie, after all.

@@drewconway7135 You replied to my comment almost a decade after I left it! LOL. And I'm still here to reply back! 😁
@@lithiumnode Mathnet never gets old.
👍😁👍
"It's so dark, I can't even see my hand in front of my face."
"Maybe it's not your face."
This show is Legend. 😂
This was obviously before they realized 'What Do We Know' was more fun.

Just like real life
Soooooooooo many jokes for the parents watching I never got as a kid.
22:22 25:18 34:46 Monday looks great in jeans.
But they did play "What If?" in "The Case of the Strategic Weather Initiative".

George is giving a whole lotta swag in this cowboy 🤠 outfit. #😍
Today, that gold's over 300 grand.
Great episode. Really cool to see Mathnet in the old west.

FRIENDS DO THAT!

Do you happen to have the Mystery Weekend?
Do you have the episode the case of the record? It's ok if you don't just wondering.
