LOL 15:25 ish "Maybe all the car thieves formed a union and won't work overtime." That and the ending to this case was probably one of the biggest adrenaline rushes I ever got from Mathnet.
This one had just about the most thrilling conclusion an eight-year-old could want! Even in reruns, I always worried whether everything would turn out all right!
As a kid, the dance scene made my tiny-not-quite-sure-what-this-feeling-is-shipping heart leap. As an adult, I still love it. Kate putting George's hand quite so low on her back...George's reaction...and the general writing and acting. Both partners look just-guilty-enough to suggest they do feel a mutual attraction. And Bill Dietrich!! "Kate was just...teaching me something...new." Bill: "Mmmm-hmm." I wish we'd had more of Bill Dietrich on the show. Ron O'Neal rocked the role.
Yes he was very enjoyable. An Octroon I'm prettily sure. He was good at creatin a fake impression of dignity. I assume fake, because ot would be very difficult to be a professional actor while not toleratin unwedded sexual intercourse, cussin, and so forth, in that milieu.
25:40 - It took me over 3 and a half decades to finally realize that the price tag on their police cruiser was even a gag. Massive credit to Leech and Howard for how understated they played the comedy.
Two things: 1) IMDB has the wrong picture of Bernadette Kelly (the actress who played Li So) on their site. She looks nothing like the Bernadette Kelly seen here. 2) Is this one of the fewest times where we don't see the villain of the entire story arc say a word, let alone know who played him?
The only other time, I believe, is The Problem of the Missing Monkey. Criminal: Janus Prokedsian. Prokedsian never spoke, and his actor was never credited.
BTW, which Mathnet villains are your favorites? Here's my list (based on what I've seen so far, of course) Clarence Sampson The Karamazoff Brothers (Irving and Jake) Hans Ballpeen Norman Mailbag Maureen O'Reilly Byle Dupe Raymond Sticker (the way he gave Kate the death stare, sent chills up and down my spine. Probably the scariest in the series) Wellworth Watching (My favorite Mathnet villain by far) Sybil Divine Lauren Bacchanal Johnny Dollar Frank N. Steenbrenner I.M. Peeved
For me, it would have to be "The Case of the Deceptive Data". Dick Sargent, Darrin Stephens no. 2 from Bewitwched, really stole the show as the creep Vinnie Vermin (a.k.a. Wellworth Watching), in one of his final projects as an actor, before his death. Also, Vinnie Vermin is hands-down, my favorite Mathnet villain of all-time. For some reason, he reminded me of the Irate Gamer. Anyone who is familiar with him, and the video game reviewing trend on UA-cam, will know what I mean.
Been trying to remember this show for years. The only thing I could remember it was educational cause we watched ion elm school and the blue jackets and the guy actor but never knew his name.
They also did the same thing with "The Case of the Map With a Gap". Most parts began with Kate narrating over footage of her, George and their young partner in that episode, Bronco, on Horseback.
I loved watching this all week just for the grande finale on Friday. Thanks for posting!!
At 42:47, the estimate is $600,000 for the illegal scrap metal. This episode debuted in 1988. It would be worth $1.37 million in 2021 dollars

Brings back so many great memories!!! The best show!!

Because of this I was so sure if would be George Frankly leaving the show...not Kate!
This show is pure genius. Such an underrated gem! ❤
The second-most spine-tingling of all of the LA-based episodes, second only to the one where Kate nearly gets blown to bits by the cuckoo clockmaker.
Always loved this case since it was so engrossing and the chase scene was the icing on the cake.
I would have to agree with you.
I finally get to see the lights on on the patrol car
This episode seems to owe a lot to the _Adam-12_ episode "GTA".
@@anthonyholmes195 We finally get to see Kate drive the car.

I did too. (On both points.) :D

I believe that there was some sort of attraction between George and Kate. George and Pat Tuesday though, I don't know.
@@kevinpayton2664 It's called BEST FRIENDS!!! Can't a man and a woman just be close friends?! Especially when one of them is married?!
@@colleen4ever All I did was offer an opinion.
Another favorite Mathnet case of mine. It looks exciting on so many levels, including on the chase scene.
25:40 - It took me over 3 and a half decades to finally realize that the price tag on their police cruiser was even a gag. Massive credit to Leech and Howard for how understated they played the comedy.
I remember this Mathnet more than any of the others!
Li-So's mother's car at 51:13-- It's gotta be a mid-to-late '50s Chevrolet Bel-Air convertible.
TVLubber I always wondered why they didn’t crush that car right away. Saving it for last?
joshmg25
They had over 20,000 stolen cars. They had no preferences as to which car went first.
They probably wanted to sell THAT one to a car collector!!
@@colleen4ever
Again, no preferences, considering they stole over 20,000 other cars, about half of which could be a lot more valuable.
thanks for posting have been looking for this "set of shows" since i was young 20 + years ago!
14:19-- To answer that question: One car every 9 minutes on average.
A car chase, that’s a first for this show. #🚓
Thank you for posting this
Anyone else notice the jazz song references "I can't dance, don't ask me" and "It ain't necessarily so"
I will always recognize Ronnie Schell, but not by face. He has a distinctive voice.

Whatever happened to Bernadette Kelly?
@@greaternewyorkmensaspeaker8384 According to IMDB, she mainly worked in editing as this was her only acting role.
Here are the female villains:
Maureen O'Reilly (Maltese Pigeon)
Sybil Divine (Ersatz Earthquake)
Lauren Bacchanal (Unkidnapping)
Hester Phestor (Galling Stones)
I.O. Privacy (Poconos Paradise)
I always loved this case.
My favorite case.
Great Episode!
Funny to see the technology changes since then. George's batteries? LOL.

Had Frankly not been able to escape, Henry Edsel III would have been guilty of felony murder. His own life could very easily have been forfeit.
I think he would have charged with an attempted murder felony in real life assuming he knew George was in the car.
If I were to choose a favorite, it'd have to be Johnny Dollar.
"Yours truly, Johnny Dollar."
Lol Superfly Ron O' Neal in this show love him RIP Ron

Parts 2-5, to be exact.
Just to clarify, I should have said "him or her", because this show occasionally had a female villain.
Peeved. Also Floyd Snerd.
