I saw this medley in person, as part of the encore at Cleveland Municipal Stadium 7/20/1990 in front of over 66,000 folks. The stadium shook when he did, Can’t Buy Me Love and this Golden Slumbers medley at the end. A very memorable experience. I’ll never forget it.
Listen to Abbey Road from Mean Mr. Mustard to the end. That's how we all did it back in the day. I'm 71 now and still remember all of the lyrics. Good times.
I saw him on this tour when he came to Boston. Paul was actually on the piano up until the drum solo at the end. Hamish Stuart was playing bass. Once the drum solo began, Paul jumped up, grabbed his Les Paul Custom, and joined in on the three-guitar jam to close it out. The man could play ANYTHING!!!
@@L33Reacts Each Bootle guitarist takes a turn on the original. Paul, George, then John and repeat. John didn't like side 2 of Abbey Rd. But then who knows if he was serious or taking the piss as he often did.
While recording these solos it was the only time that John made Yoko stay out of the studio. He understood that this was probably the last time they would play like they played when they were, let's face it, children when they started...

There is a live version of this on UA-cam from the 1997 Concert for Montserrat with Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler on lead guitars. Phil Colllins on drums and Sir George Martin conducting full orchestra with choir.
I was teased by university students (supposedly grown up intelligent individuals) for loving this live performance and McCartney's tour in general. I think they must have thought they were hip. They were wrong.
I saw him in 2022 and he ended the concert with this trilogy (in a 37 song setlist). The place went wild. It was a highlight of my 72 year old life, and I've had a pretty great one.
The Let It Be Liverpool Concert was just an extension of his 1989-1990 WORLS TOUR. You can watch this line perform live in the GET BACK Concert dvd. Watch sometime, the three guitar players really get animated Actually most of the keyboard work was courtesy of Wix Wickens. Linda was just a supporting character
He’s one of only a handful of artists that can replicate his music to sound almost exactly like the studio versions. I’ve seen a lot of groups and his concerts are as close to perfection as it gets.
THE END - The last track on the last album by the best band in the world... What a Frickin way to finish your career....!!! NIce selection and this version (if from the thumbnail photo) was the first time he did it live ('89 -'90); however, FYI, I do believe the versions in the 2000s with his current touring band were a little tighter, FYI in the original Beatles version on Abbey Road, the three guitar solos (2 bars each) in the order Paul, George and John (then repeated). After a few listens you can pickout the differences. In the 1990 tour it was Paul. Hamish and then Robbie. His current band it's Paul. Brian and then Rusty; But after 2015, Paul's voice was near shot.
Love you!…love you!…love you!…love you…!! And in the end…the love you take is equal to the love you make! Paul shows so much love to Liverpool when he plays back home! I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Lee! Thank you for the great reaction! ❤️
The last song on Abby Road is “Her Majesty”. A lot of people at the he time missed it as there is a 23 second silence before it starts. Turn tables at the time would return the tone arm to home before the song started.
That's fabulous stuff, man. Thanks. Paul is in fantastic voice here. And they're doing very faithful renditions (to the Abbey Road originals). Some fantastic historical notes there, too, like Ringo's only drum solo with the Beatles. (Fittingly, in a song called The End, that comes at The End.) Watching the Wings is just SO much fucking fun. Watching Paul completely unleashed to do whatever the hell he feels is just amazing. He kind of jumps in and out of his many musical personalities. Sometimes he's Little Richard (and does him magnificently); sometimes he's almost Don Maclean. And all of it is suffused with so much pure joy, it's just nuts. There will never be another Paul. (And seeing Linda is great, but also so sad. A friend of mine knew her, and said she was really wonderful.) One more note: I don't know if you realize this, but the Wings were really mocked and maligned quite a bit in the 70s (which was really freaking stupid, but people are mostly idiots). It's so cool to see them so much more appreciated decades later.
I don't know if you know, but on The End on Abbey Road the three of them each trade off guitar solos. It starts with Paul then George then John. They do that 3 times. John's solo is the coolest sounding one to me. But they're all of course great. At one time Sgt. Pepper was my favorite, but it's probably Abbey Road now
I know they do. It’s just not as aggressive or metal-y as this 1990 sound is, that’s all I was saying. I could have worded it better, I was just high from that performance lol
Suggestions for Paul McCartney Monday. Since you've done Paul's dig at John in the song Too Many People from Ram (in response to John's interview in Rolling Stone) and then reacted to John's musical response with How Do You Sleep, maybe you'd like to check out Paul's song from Wing's first album Wild Life called Dear Friend (which was his attempt to reach out to John and end the public displays of vitriol). Another song from the second Wing's album Red Rose Speedway is called Little Lamb Dragonfly. It is a beautiful song in which the dragonfly portion is thought by fans to be about John (although not confirmed by Paul).
Love your enthusiasm when you play music. There are so many McCartney songs. But 3 of his unknown or underrated songs that I love are Get out of my way, lovers that never were, and Mistress and Maid. Hope you get a chance to play them here.
It's too bad you didn't have video for this. During the drum solo Paul leaves the piano to join the duelling guitar solos (hence the three guys in the photo). Wix is on keyboards; he is the one doing the "orchestral" sounds on the keys. Linda is there, but it isn't her on that part. Then at the end, Paul goes to the mic for "The End" and Wix plays the "piano" part. So Paul starts on acoustic piano and Wix ends it on the electric piano. The original Abbey Road also had three duelling guitar solos, but obviously it didn't go as long as this.😛
I saw him at RFK Stadium in Wash D.C. on 7/3/1990. It was his first tour where he played Beatle songs (he wrote). I’ve been to so many concerts, but this was the best by far. Check out Live And Let Die in a stadium (Rio is a good one, I think). Indoors you lose the fireworks.
Robbie Mcintosh-lead guitat, he played with the Pretenders, Hamish Stuart- rhytym guitar, occasional bass -former member of the AWB. Wix Wickens- keyboards, acoustic guitar, maracas, accordion. Linda- keys and some occasional percussion instruments, Paul-bass, piano, electric and acoustic guitars. For some reason Hamish's former band's name got deleted so i abbreviated. Look it up. Hamish has recently been touring with Ringo's All Star Band.
never saw this but so damn good, expecially the guitars, in the studio version the guitar parts are too short, you just become exciting for only a second and then it's over, this live version contains much longer guitar solos and everyone showed his own style, very very good
That WAS Abbey Road, or at least the last half of Side 2. If you don't remember hearing it, then you haven't listened to Abbey Road. Sit yourself down and listen to the whole Abbey Road album, start to finish. Then go and find all of the earlier Beatles albums, and listen to them in sequence. You don't need to "react", though you can if you like - others have. You'll recognise a few songs, but most will be new to you. And you'll hear Paul rocking out on songs like "Long Tall Sally", because he has always been able to sing like that. In particular, listen through all of the albums from "Rubber Soul" onwards, because that's when they move away from songs that could easily be played live on stage. I like you, but you really can't "react" to something like this recording without more idea of where it's coming from.
My favorite part of the medley. Always makes me weepy. Do the song, ‘The Backseat of My Car’ from his ‘RAM’ album. My favorite McCartney track (and that’s saying a lot!)
If this was early 90’s Linda died in the late 80’s I think. Awesome live version - loved it! Have you done I want you, oh darling or 1985 (2 versions available)? Thanks!
With the Beatles it is wise to listen to studio versions before live due to the lack of technology. Although this is not the Beatles, rather Paul, it is good but you have to listen to the product they offered their public as The Beatles. So much better. I hope you do it soon. Oh and just do the whole 2nd side of the album...or the whole album. It is that good. Also, you have an inflated opinion of Linda on keys. She played minimal notes as Paul taught her as they went along.
There's a 2002 DVD - Back In The U.S. - that offers a nice (but shorter) rendition of the trade-off solos/"The End" segment of the medley - well worth looking up on here. The drummer, Abe Laboriel, Jr., is stellar on the kit: just as capable of swinging as serving up Bonzo-like thunder.
The GET BACK concert DVD from, 89 - 90 (not Peter Jackson film). A worthy addition to any collection. Paul did the New World Tour PAUL IS LIVE DVD in 1993 (different drummer), Also a good video but doesn't include the entire concert. Then THE SPACE WITHIN US (05) and GOOD EVENING NEW YORK CITY (09 complete show) were official videos that followed. IN the 2000s there are good "bootleg" videos available as well. (especially nice to have if from a city where you saw him)
You should listen to Sgt. Pepper from McCartney's TRIPPING THE LIVE FANTASTIC live album. They turn it into an ALL OUT ROCKING JAM, it's my very favorite version of the song!
Listen the first HEAVY METAL song ever "HELTER SKELTER" by the Beatles in 1968 and the first ELECTRONIC song "TEMPORARY SECRETARY" by Paul McCartney in his solo "McCartney 2" LP in 1980 (i love it).
1968 know that Dinnerbell called a triangle. Did you see in the westerns on the porch bringing everybody to come in for dinner well, the only time I’ve ever heard heavy-metal triangle played in a song is The Beatles everybody’s got something to hide except me and my monkey.

John has complained that Paul and George overshadowed him. (He might have used a different word, but that's the gist.) Like they were so good, he thought they purposely made him look bad. But that was John. Personally, I don't see that. They all were great. The studio version is better. Hmm, as a patreon member, I really need to take the time to go over and hear your reaction to the entire album. Then I need to see what you've already reacted to here and make a request for a song. Do you have a separate playlist for PM and Wings? I'm sorry, but I tend to get a little long-winded. But I love your reactions. I also love that no matter how stupid some of my questions have been, you've always made an attempt to answer me. It's okay if you don't have the time now.
I have abbey road, revolver and sgt pepper in full on patreon. I do have a separate playlist for Paul and wings it’s in the description of this video (well it should be) if not just check out the playlists on my channel page. Hopefully that cleared that up ! Thank you for watching I really appreciate it 🙏
@L33Reacts I would like to amend my last comment. No, it doesn't have Ringo's unique voice and drum solo. Nor George and John's touch. But this really is great too. I do have an idea for a request. Should I do that on your patreon page?
"And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make" just says it all...even 55 years later.

You haven't reacted to Helter Skelter?
you should just react to the full original medley
I’ve done it. It’s been on patreon for months.
