i absolutely LOVE this episode with vivian! and eric - it's so cool to see you ask all the best interview questions given your background! you def know the space super well. love it!!
Vivian is so candid, straight to the point, and full of confidence. She is so sure of what she is saying and knows her worth and it comes off in every single sentence and decision she makes. great interview guys.
Love this episode because it discusses how children of immigrant parents get out of the trap of living for your parents and instead pursuing your own dreams, passions, and redefining success on your own terms!!
I come from a Korean American immigrant family When I mentioned the possibility of picking up a side hustle while keeping my day job with an expectation that yes, the side hustle will bring in more income than my day job over time. their question was ... "Is that ethical?" Asians are often praised and respected for their work ethic. While I certainly appreciate the various affirmations I receive from my peers and coworkers... I think it's a double-edged sword in that most workplaces always expect you to give more as time passes. There comes a time when enough is simply enough, and the corporate world no longer gives the satisfaction it once did.
I really need more , I am creative but for some reason I always hold my self back. Always thinking about doing something but never follow through with it.
I am an immigrant mom of 2 kids in the US. even though I didn't come from poverty, I don't think I will ever feel like a belong here. So your parent might be looking over their shoulders because even though they have the blue passports, they don't feel like this is home. so they, like me, might not know where they belong anymore.
vivian im facing what you are facing in my current role in finance too ! >< i receive sexist comments all the time. i bust my a** over a year too because i wasn't similar to him.
I really want to know if her parents…now knowing she’s “rich”….expect money from her? My Asian parents expect me &my siblings to give them money on a recurring basis…and make negative comments if the amount is too small (in their eyes). Wonder if she has to deal with that and how does she handle it?
That’s hard :( it sounds like your parents really see monetary donation as the main way to express love. I’ve seen a lot of my friends go thru similar experiences
I‘ve heard some of my ABC friends' parents do that. But as someone who comes from Mainland China, none of our parents would ask money from us, they only support us.
It’s an Asian parents thing, not an immigrant thing. They will go so far as to groom you to be an ‘insurance’ for their old age as Asian kids ‘are supposed’ to take care of their parents.

A million view is about 30$ - how many views is a million dollars? 🤔

She did sales- so the bulk of her compensation was from commission!
