Making a letter into its own envelope is called 'letterlocking.' 🙂 There's a channel on UA-cam that specializes in demonstrating various different forms that have survived from the correspondence of prominent historical figures.

Yes! I've routinely used the folds presented there, especially putting them into normal envelopes so the post office doesn't complain. It's worked well and held up well. :)

I've sent a -lot- of letters folded that way (at least one a week for many years), and to my knowledge, that's the first one that's come open in the mail! The "ears" were definitely tucked in when I sent it. Thanks, USPS, for getting it there even though the tape failed. The homemade sticker idea is wonderful. I look forward to doing that.

The home made stickers and cutting them with serrated scissors is a cool idea.

Postal worker here… don’t rely on nonmachinable postage to actually keep your letter out of the machines. Some offices just won’t hand cancel any more. And if it gets missent or missorted, it WILL get thrown into the machine to rework. Personally I would say don’t waste the 30¢ on it. I send my stuff very frequently with wax seals, usually they make it intact, sometimes they get mangled, it’s all just part of the thrill.

I like that folding method and use it quite often with gift paper or old posters (with a white back, of course) so I have a decorative cover. Instead of a glue stick and a paper seal or wax I prefer washi tape all over the open fold and the two "ears" because the receiver can open the letterlope without tearing it.

Okay I’ve watched a few of you videos before but this one sealed the deal as far as subscribing. I love everything about this video! Especially collaging the letters to seal them. Plus your wit- you had me laughing out loud. Oh and the Corona 3 I have one of those beauties as well. Thanks for a great video!

Thanks Joe, quite cute to watch you doing some crafting. Liked the advice to not go to the scary address on your folded letter.

Yes, one of my rentable properties … good rates by the day, week, month or even yearly. No furniture… it was getting a bit ‘messy’ if you know what I mean. And, the taps drip … 💀💀💀

Having a binge watch of your channel LOL. I like to make DIY postcards. I'm going to try my hand at watercolor soon, and i'd like to add some typewritten quotes. I got a precise idea of what i want it to look like in my mind, but not sure if that's going to translate in the material plane LOL.

We used to have something similar called Inland Letters in India which I guess were stopped in the early 2000s? People would fill up every little space with content/news from their end. My aunt recently showed me letters where my brother and I had scribbled all over the margins of letters my mom had written to her 😅

Tommy: Oh, what are you writing for? I bought you a typewriter.
Caroline: You don't write letters of a social occasion on a typewriter.
    Tommy: Oh. Forgive me.

Postcards don't need envelopes and we can write on the back a letter. Short letter.

i have a device that makes a perforated line, something like that would be ideal for the sticker that seals it

    Wasn't that an aerogram?

    • @kycklingsallad2414
      @kycklingsallad2414 2 роки тому +2

Kinda. Aerograms didn't allow for adding extra paper to them. It was very much about keeping the weight down. Thin paper, pre-printed postage marking, no envelope.

Very much enjoyed this one. Is there no issue regarding copyright if using advertising images as shown in the example (I am not referring here to the phoney GM ‘stamp’)?

Copyright is about the right to copy for COMMERCIAL purposes. No one will hunt you down for a one off un-commercial copy.

How do I write a letter to you? Do you have PO box address? I would understand not giving your address out to just anyone. I have learned a lot sat on my little island watching all your stuff and would like very much to type a letter to you, from one of the many typewriters that you are forcing me to buy, lol. 😉
