My grandmother took Dawn into her home(we called her Lorrie) off and on for many years when Lorrie lived in Annapolis Maryland. As a kid i remember her being full of energy, but very troubled as well. Many years later Lorrie(Dawn) came to North Carolina to visit our family with her boyfriend and band mate Dennis. By this time she was working hard on the West Coast in the metal scene, something i am not sure our family understood. To us she was just "Aunt Lorrie" I do remember her being happy on the visit but restless as well. She was always restless. Her death was a surprise to all of us as she kept her issues to herself. Her death was very sad and for the most part she died alone. She always felt alone even when alive. My mother happened to google Dawn Crosby,to us this was her stage persona,a few days ago and we have now just discovered her music . In truth,we had no idea she was this innovative. My Grandmother was a fundamentalist Christain who exposed Lorrie to that culture and often frightening theology. From listening to her music and the name of her band, it looks like she was working out some of those issues. So glad we found her music after all of these years. When she visited us in North Carolina in the mid 80's, she said she was close to breaking it big, in truth I am not sure what we thought of her rock career. It was a part of her life that we did not know very well. I was 15 at the time and remember thinking how much energy and boundless determination she had. I also remember how she and Dennis had really big hair and dressed outlandishly compared to the very conservative attire of the small town I lived in. Wish we had understood her more then than we did. Great to read so many people loved her. Unfortunately, she struggled to love herself. To me she will always just be Aunt Lorrie, the wirey girl with a head of blond unruly hair with a troubled but larger than life spirit.
+Hoder Harris That's cool to hear, man. As someone who is 23 years old I discovered her music from Détente to Fear of God and it really resonated with me. Especially Fear of God. Among fans of metal, I find that whenever I share her music or play it when I'm behind the bar I always get at least a couple of people asking for more songs. Very different.
+Hoder Harris it is not uncommon for genius to have high energy ALIVE NESS and also troubled--- she felt all deeply, she saw all the horror in this world when many, too many, refuse to face it--- her alcoholism was/is a disease, many never beat it//she tried, but fell into deep depression//there is an interview of her where you hear a great soull in pain of this world//i had someone so much like this, her voice carried the impact of a tormented but beautiful soul, i dedicate this to that person it is s said she a grandchild of Bing(true?)
She was an acquaintance of mine for a while in San Diego. I admired her (and still do), but man she was messed up. SO incredibly sensitive to the wrongs of the world and society, and just tortured...and not even the alcohol could take it away. I wasn't surprised at all to hear of her passing. It's sad. Fear Of God was a beautiful thing, and Dawn was just too beautiful a soul to stay here for very long.
Your auntie is a legend in the underground metal scene and so is her band. Hope you’ve grown to have an appreciation of her immense talent and the bands incredible music.
It's been 6yrs since you posted this but if you see this, thank you. Your aunt has kept a lot of us same by knowing we're not alone. I still have the cd from 20+ years ago and just ordered the LP to give as a gift. She was an incredible person and artist that left a timeless legacy!
This whole album is nothing short of a masterpiece. The most underappreciated album ever. I was lucky enough to see them in 93 at a tiny club in New Britain CT. RIP Dawn
I was very good friends with Blair Darby the bass player, had the pleasure to hang with Dawn and party with her, within the veil has and will always be one of my favorites of all time, the vibrations of every note strikes a nerve in my sacred soul R.I.P. Dawn and thanks.
"There's few people in this world that miss Dawn more than I do. She was a close friend of mine. She was a beautiful person inside and out, and so passionate about her art, but nobody, and not even her closest could save her. I still get chills to this day when I hear her voice, but she's kept alive by her videos and music like this. Still love ya killer. R.I.P." Thanks to sonicfeather for this post
I did not know her - but I knew that they were a special, different kind of band - never to be forgotten. She paved the road for many and I really hope she is as big as an influence to others as she has been to me. long live Dawn! (in the drift >:)

If I say the alcohol was the reason of her death that would be simplistic. We will never know what kind of demons tortured Dawn's life. Rest in a better place dear Dawn.
One of my favourite songs from one of my overall favourite albums! The only - though minor - flaw with this video is that it's about 1 minute and 40 seconds shorter than the album version of this song. BTW, the quality-wise by far best recording of a live performance of this song featuring the original line-up is the one in this clip of Fear of God's concert at the Country Club, Reseda, on June 29, 1991: ua-cam.com/video/_-MMq5A3No4/v-deo.html ("Betrayed" starts around the 22-minute-mark, but I'd recommend to watch the entire show.)
She had a unique voice I remember listening to beyond the veil cassette when it first came out partying jamming out to it over and over she kicked ass it's wrong she passed away I would of liked to hear more music from herR.I.P.
I've never seen this before. Fear of God really was indicative of how INTERESTING heavy music was getting ...before corporate grunge sucked the life out of the 90s. Amazing video...shame about this guy's captioning.
It was much more the record industry than the artists themselves. Let’s not forget that the “grunge” bands were just as much victims of the industry as the metal bands.
Dawn had been a huge inspiration for me -- The Midnight Diner novella has a character named Emily Crosby. Fear of God -- if Dawn was still alive now, she will be able to take Otep to school. Sorry OTep but you are just a pretender when it comes to a tormented mind.
edite 3/27/16// Last line of this song, which can be heard clearly at the end of utube live performance video. The line is "YOU FUCKING GODDAMNED KING OF THE WORLD." I am not a fan usually of metal singers. But Dawn Crosby and Ann Boleyn are the two exceptions to my rule. After Dawn passed away I got to see Ann sing in Detente. They did a Fear of God song. Incredible. Just wish they would have continued on with Boleyn on vocals. No one can ever replace Dawn, though.

WITHIN THE VEIL IS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER MADE, 20 YEARS AHEAD OF ITS TIME-R.I.P. DAWN
True that.
She! Dawn Crosby was way ahead of the music industry way back then
R.I.P. Miss Dawn Crosby
She was herself, and not one of the heavily made-up attention craving singers like some of today. In This Moment, to name one.
Dawn was so unique , you could call her and talk about anything, she was one special lady. And that voice. Much missed
Toured with them in the US many years ago.
Nice people.
R.I.P Dawn.
Love that song. This album was SO ahead of their time. Just awesome.
This whole album is nothing short of a masterpiece. The most underappreciated album ever. I was lucky enough to see them in 93 at a tiny club in New Britain CT. RIP Dawn
Best female metal singer in my opinion, very unique voice
I have grown up to this and i will die still listening to fear of god. I loved those memories.
I love this band so underrated

Dawn Crosby, a pioneer.we have to keep her legacy alive as well as kurk of holy terror.
Wow Dawn was so beautiful, mysterious and dark.
Her lost was such a terrible shame.
Only found this band recently and I really like them.

I may have to buy this cd, Awesome music on it
Such a loss. I miss her.
1778 is NOT me.
One of a kind and never to be outdone!
this is so awesomely good, and weird, in the best way...
Thanks for this upload.
I happened to record this video out of sheer luck on my vcr . It was headbangers ball on MTV and I watched it over and over. Blew me away
Rest on Peace, Dawn Crosby
Thank You!
They were a big inspiration to my writing. I remember when I first heard them. I loved there were other woman who played the music I wanted to do.
so badass
PERFECTION

I know but this footage is from back before the Internet when it was not as easy to double-check
Oh, yeah. You may want to change the words on the video to Betrayed and Fear of God; not Betrayal and Fear.
Dawn was special, but had issues, no doubt. This is an interesting album, a great song, horrifying video from waay back in '91. R.I.P. Dawn Crosby.

she sound like a hardcore Courtney Love, but better.
Yeah, I know now. A puzzle and now dead.
grandaughter of the late bing crosby
Not the original video, but still pretty good. R.I.P. Dawn!!!
I may need protection . Don't get into any alien craft I keep hearing in the back of my minds eye
