Met him after his fight in walsall town hall may 2018. His career had stalled a bit and he was down on his luck before the Webb/Browne fight. Still spent the whole night after fighting going round talking to everyone one of the most genuine fellas out there. Top man and wish him all the best with his future. Surely a career as a pundit awaits.......
You can’t help but like David Allen. Great character, sad story. Had a great heart and chin. Enjoyed watching his career.

@@winter.b0i Matchroom used him as a punch bag against world class guys for peanuts, by the time he started taking his career seriously, he was already shot and got blasted out by David Price, leaving the sport pactically penniless.
@@daveyjones18 he isn’t penniless, Dave is a millionaire and owns several properties lol. He was one of matchrooms higher paid fighters toward the end of his career. You fail to take into account the many fights in which he was massively overpaid against journeyman, fights he didn’t take seriously or even train for. Dave was well looked after by matchroom and it’s the reason why he can retire at the age of 28. He took big fights earlier in his career and was paid less because his commercial value at the time was much less, yet it’s because he took those risky fights and showed heart and chin that increased his overall commercial value that got him to the position in which he could comfortably retire. He took risks and they paid off for him, and it was matchroom that gave him those opportunities...
After the sauna, that’s the second best Klitschko story I’ve heard

Not so much a class act when he got out boxed by Tyson Fury though. (And when he tried to cheat him before the fight)

You’re risking your life out there, if you’re a household name(A side) you better get all the advantages you can get. Floyd was notorious for doing this. He’d probably surprise you with a semen sample test if he could.

Allen is a great personality, you can tell his a guy who would be really easy to get onn with. I think thats why everyone warmed to him so much even tho he isnt very good at boxing
Real honest straight bloke. Good that his open about his failings. Knows his level at boxing, never got ahead of himself. Respect his reasons for retiring. Most people will wish him good luck for the future.

I think we've heard enough from the bold Dave, I don't know how many times I have heard his life story, usually after he has retired following a defeat in a fight he did not bother training for and the bold Dave thinks it's all a joke.

if he made an effort, he will still be below British level. He has done well for his level of talent.

@@Repofireland I'm not putting him down. He made no real effort by his own admission which is why he didn't achieve more (so second rate boxer is fair by elite standards). He still had some success just by being tough with a natural ability and keeping himself in the right place at the right time, hence 1st class chancer, which is no insult! He had the balls to give it a go and fair play to him. And as I said before, imagine how good he could have been if he'd gone all out. He has a decent chin, a decent bomb and some sort of engine considering 0 training. With proper fitness and some focus he would definitely have gone further, although world HW title was always gonna be a stretch...
You got to wonder if he’ll regret not making the most of his real talent. To do what he did with so little discipline for the game is incredible. Good luck to him though, very loveable fella
People see that as funny and that he’s “just one of the lads” but i see it as a disrespect for yourself and your sport especially in something as violent and dangerous as boxing where your health is literally your career and there are very high risks of trauma and serious injury. Heard some interviews with dave allen recently and he’s all ready slurring his words a lot more and starting to sound punch drunk which is mega sad considering how young he is and it only gets worse as time goes on
I really enjoyed watching DA, he was British/European level and he was used to bolster other fighters careers and made a name for himself due to his character. I honestly think even if he tried he would not be any higher level . He maximised his opportunities and I take my hat off to the bloke. I really enjoyed watching him box and and I hope he stays in the sport as a pundit for Sky/Matchroom.
Honestly my favourite professional of all time. If you can call him a pro anyway😂 wasn’t the best of fighters but such an honest bloke with a class personality🙌🏽 could watch his interviews all day

Whoever made that BADASS intro with Dave knocking mfers out to the tune of "We Will Rock You," that was GREAT! But hey, what about that overhand right Dave snuck in against Dillian Whyte? Man, I just loved that punch. I mean, The White Rhino was just millimeters away from knocking D. Whyte's lights out!!! (He did this little fake left hook to the body, then snuck that big overhand sweeping right in and about sparked Dillian out) But sweet little intro though, for real!
