I might sound like a hater but those embellishments you used at the beginning are completely unnecessary for this genre, contemporary gospel is about space. for black gospel completely awesome.

The course is just trying to teach embellishments irregardless of the genre of the song used as an example. So you can call the first song a reharmonized version which is a valid thing to do in music, isn't it? 😄
