Slow-witted Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and thanks to his supportive mother (Sally Field), he leads anything but a restricted life. Whether dominating on the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam or captaining a shrimp boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism. I still remember the comedy sketch that points out Sally Field went from being Tom Hanks' love interest in Punchline (1988) to his mom in Forest Gump (1994) when she passed that age threshold for a leading actress.

Until they're not. My mom cheated on my Dad when I was 10. When he had to move us all the way across the country to start over, my Mom never reached out and never bothered to visit. When I got married and vowed to never split up my family like she did, She couldn't be bothered to even meet my 2 boys. My wife is an amazing mother, and I wish I could've experienced what Forrest and my boys experienced. It's just not in the cards.

Oh, how profound the "box of chocolates" analogy is for life, for all those familiar with just how horrible every suprising piece of chocolate is in those boxes--even the "good ones." But in life, you can't simply put each and every chocolate immediately back in its slot after one disgusting bite: you've gotta stomach each unsavory chapter of your life through till the end.
Idk? Sometimes yes, but relationships or jobs? I'd know immediately what to walk away from now, but you only get that with experience

Gump: but momma, I still don't understand how you make your own destiny if life is something where you never know what you're gonna get? And momma you do know that if you get a box of chocolates you are gonna have chocolate inside that box there momma? Besides momma most of those boxes have a little thing where it shows what all the different chocolates are inside the box so you know exactly what kinds of chocolates you got there in the box, and they also make them there chocolates all different shapes to correspond to what exactly is inside of the chocolate, so did you never know that or am I just missing something you're trying to tell me about destiny vs free will?

This scene is great, but it would be so much better if it wasn't instantly followed by the Apple joke. That completely ruined it.
