- While the rest of the world ponders who the next actor will be to don the tux and become the newest double-O seven, today, we ask ourselves what the man behind the gun will wear on his wrist. You join Nacho, RJ, and Lex to discuss James Bond’s watches, past and present, and some thoughts on what we’d like to see in the future. What is your take? Let us know in the comments!
The broad arrow on the NTTD Seamaster only makes sense if you imagine that its a watch from his former career as a commander in the navy prior to becoming 007. So I consider this a personal possession that James has had for many years developing the patina and vintage aesthetic that Omega tried to envoke with the faux patina tropical dial, non-ceramic bezel, box/domed crystal and milanese bracelet.
Great episode! Love RJ’s recommendation of the Constellation Manhattan that the actor Robert Wagner wore. It’s definitely a classy timepiece and would revive the Constellation brand in the USA.
Bond the character has a background in naval intelligence. Believe that the Omega Seamster makes sense as a result. Agree that Omega should not create a new reference for Bond, but rather have Bond wear either something out of the catalogue or something that gets issued to special forces.
IIRC Bond was a Navy commander, rather than in the Army. If we're going back to his roots, a CWC diver would work.
Also, Lex is right. No more silly gadgets please.
He'd probably wear an Elliot Brown these days
Gadgets are part of Bond’s persona. It stems from the SOE of WW2, for whom many gadgets were developed for espionage purposes!
Blancpain Fifty Fathoms seems obvious to me, still under the swatch umbrella. While I would love to see the new 42mm in titanium, it would be cool to see the Bathyscaphe on full ceramic bracket.
Love the random silly off topicchats lads! Keep them coming.
According to the books, Bond was in the British Navy (not army) so I’d suggest his British Navy-issued Diver. But agree that would give away information about him when he’s supposed to be incognito. Also, there were specific references in the books to Rolex and him looking down at his watch with “phosphorus numerals”. So that means we should be wearing an Explorer 1016. So depending on the time period of the film, it could be that or a vintage Omega Seamaster. If current times, then a JLC Polaris diver.
RJ's shoes are the business! I need to know what and where to buy.
Santoni monk straps (11652 is the productnr).
My man’s getting ready to run a marathon after this podcast with those shoes ….
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the amzwatch has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
If the swatch group would try to follow up the "Blancpain awareness" after the 70' years anniversary models, the Scuba 50's models and the new 42,3mm models, then maybe the would try to fit the latest fifty fathoms version on James Bond. Regé-Jean Page is my suggestion for new Bond.
The very last bond watch, which had a blue aluminum bezel and throwback wave pattern, would have been an instant classic if it had been the same thickness as the NTTD. I am still holding out hope that they use that dial in another model and bring in the height a tad.
Aqua Terra GMT, go anywhere, do anything, plus a useful complication?
If you want the watch to be “ current “ you might consider an Elliot Brown Holton Professional. The Army bit of Bond’s service record might need a bit of work guys …
100% agree with this. 007 would wear an EB Holton these days
Especially as he was a Commander in the Royal Navy…
Daniel Craig wore at least 2 watches in each of his James Bond movies (apart from NTTD). The blue/yellow Aqua Terra with the family crest was in Skyfall, not Spectre. In Spectre he wore a 3rd watch at the end of the movie, a vintage 101.010, but you only see it for a split second. Harking back to the Sean Connery movies, he would wear a dress watch with formal attire (typically a Gruen) and a sports watch for casual wear. Maybe the new James Bond could wear a De Ville Tresor for those casino scenes, and the usual Seamaster in action scenes.
He could also do a Tudor BB58 diver. Tudor being a British name and all.
Surely the new Bond watch would be the SMP300 that’s been seen on Daniel Craig’s wrist recently that is yet to be released?
affordable: Glycine combat sub, a citizen promaster, glycine airman as well, Tissot Seastar, Tag Heuer Acquaracer or even the solargraph!
Agree, he should have worn the 2254.50, great watch. A CWC would also be a great choice.
I know that the Bond watch has to be an Omega but the new Rolex Titanium Yachtmaster would be the perfect Bond watch imo.
Love my seamaster 300 from casino Royale in black which was the first coaxial in that colour
Its the 40mm Accurist Origin Silver plated limited edition of 25 dark teal dial. An english brand based in London
Any Seamaster with sword hands so Omega will be forced to make new ones like the 2254, also something completely different and unique will be an IWC Mark xx.
love the podcast, keep up the good work gentlemen.
I need a Peter black to accompany my black casino Royale 300 m so bad !!!!
@@JARRODLEE-f8w you wont regret it!!
I got a peter Blake in March, it still holds up even to modern SMP300s and the SUB.
I’d love to see a retro Bond driving a Renault tank while wearing a Cartier Tank
Bond's creator wore an explorer, and there are hints in the books that Bond did too.
That said, the character of Bond was famously also inspired by that crook of a Prins Bernhard, who famously wore some rolexes, amongst which an DateJust with a turned bezel that got auctioned off in 2007.
Bond, to my mind, should wear a simple and no frills rolex, if you want to be Fleming/book/inspiration correct. Omega's product placement might have been quite succesful, but it's just not right.
Then again, the best James Bond was Roger Moore, and therefore a Seiko LCD and a Pulsar led watch would do the trick handsomely.
Seamaster 300M Ceramic Black Black. Bond all the way!
Tudor Pelagos 42 as tool watch if you want to think outside Omega sphere.
Stop it😂😂😂 TUDOR is Trash 😂😂😂😂
All dat MaMaCoo watches sssssoooooooo gorgeous!
Have omega design a brand new watch just for 007, and if it captures everybody's attention have it for sale in 12 months or more
Rolex should pay any amount to get a tudor in there
My pick for Bond would be Idris Elba, and have Tudor bring back the Tudor Sub 😎
There's been a Dutch Bond baddie: Jeroen Krabbé ( The Living Daylights), so possibly?..
Lex… Harry Styles is a cross dresser who might weight 55kg.
Unless Omega is locked in with a contract, Rolex might be in play - they’re going to have a LOT of marketing budget freed up if the LVHM/Tag bid for F1 comes to fruition. Bond wearing a Pepsi, how badass would that be? Or he could troll by wearing a Batman?
The bond watch is all the way back when Omega was the mayor provider of watches to the British military, even the prince william wears Omega, its only logic that he has to wear Omega, Aquaterra & smp300
None other than TURDor by KENISSI Outhouse: "Flush Another Day"
Instead of Omega designing a new watch, Sponsoring Olympics , releasing new chronoscope, white dial Speedmaster and a million other things, how about fulfilling a 4 year watch list of people waiting for a Snoopy? I’ve simply had enough and don’t care what they bring out anymore. Deposit back thanks.
Love the watch ideas but the Bond choices are horrible.
Go back to a Rolex Explorer 40mm. If he dives then put on a Sea Dweller 43.
I stopped watching after he said Harry Styles. 😂
He could feature in a forest scene?
I thought he said it as a joke haha
It’s a new age bro! Change with the times
You couldn’t put Bond back into space, without asking Elon Musk’s permission to use one of his rockets. Shuttle ain’t working anymore😂. Got to remember that Bond is supposed to be elegant and sophisticated as well as tough, intelligent and resourceful, so you would need a watch that falls into the criteria. I think a British brand would fall into that category and bearing in mind that the MOD is tight, a Christopher Ward would fall into that category. The next Bond should be an actor whose jacket actually fits him and doesn’t look as though it is straining at the buttons!
Omega will keep Speedmaster separate from Bond. New Seamaster 300m without helium escape valve…
Sorry to be a pedantic Irish man, the C in Cillian is a hard C with a K sound more like Killian, I know you are details guys (also not a fucking chance Cillian O’Murchú is playing Bond😉). I agree Young Bond is the way to go…picking the villain could be interesting.
Killian as Villian???? He'd make a good one.
@@garyjordan4735great call!
Theo James is the best fit. Young cool and slightly mysterious
Nothing is more goofy than bond surfing into north korea....sorry Pierce.
Bond wears a Rolex, it's canon. The only reason Omega got involved was because when Cubby Broccoli asked Rolex for money the laughter in Geneva could be heard all the way to Pinewood. The NTTD Omega is a fugly tribute for testosterone challanged fantasists the world over, and honestly the film connection means I would never buy another Seamaster because people might think I gave a stuff about what watch a fictional spy wears. the watch Bond wears will be the highest bidding manufacturer, Tag Heuer?
Bet you choose a current advertiser or partner, cos just like Bond, and unlike Rolex your for sale too aincha?
Idris Elba would make a great bond but I think the traditionalists might loose sleep over that one…😒
