I didn't know JPJ did keys too! I always assumed this was a session artist on the organ. I knew Plant was killer on the harmonica, I shoulda guessed the bassist would be similarly multi-talented. :)
Robert not only played the harp on this tune, but he played the hell out of it. Always amazed at how good he was. His vocals are supreme on this cut, even the entire album. Plant at his peak was a thing of beauty. How Jimmy gets the sound he gets on his solo is kind of intimidating to me. I want to run away. Are you kiddingi me??? This song is dripping with everything good about the blues, the hard core blues.

Girl, I heard this first time at 15 when it came out. Can you imagine being in full hormone mode and hearing this when nothing had really be heard by little white girls from Canada living in Florida for 13 years. This transformed us. I know that this music was inspired by black rhythm and blues singers. You make mention of this bringing you back to church. It does the same to me. I used to sit in my backyard in Fla. as a 9 year old and listen to the music coming from the black churchgoers. I was so envious of them because my church sure didn't sound like that. I loved it and I still love gospel, blues and rock. I married a man from the Caribbean and have been exposed to reggae and soca. I lived in England and was exposed to African music as well. Anyway, loved your reaction. You really seem to get the song and the musicianship. While Led Zeppelin took heavily from black American blues, they made it their own by adding unique touches through their gifts of technical skill, and ability to interpret and arrange. I am reminded of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Jimi started a sound (I saw him at the Atlanta Pop Festival) and his music moved Stevie so much that he had to create his own sound coming out of Jimi's sound. In a sense Jimi birthed Stevie Ray's sound. Thus, Jimi lives on. Isn't that true with all musicians; they hear something from somewhere and what they heard becomes a muse? What the heck did you do in this reaction to cause such a lenghty reply? Nothing, I suppose, rather it must be cabin fever after how many days in self imposed isolation. What separates Zeppelin is the four members are all top 3 or better in their field, guitar,bass,drums and vocals...Page and Jones were the top session players in London b4 Zeppelin which is why their producing was on point... Add the fact Bonham was rocks greatest drummer and you get masterpieces.... You need to do In My Time of Dying just to listen to their raw intensity in studio..

Awesome reaction Scribe.. The guitar was a Fender Telecaster none as The Dragon Telly. The same guitar in the Dazed and confused reaction. Last year Page and Fender were putting out limited edition signatures of it to the market.
These guys loved the blues, & were listening to it as young teens, out buying the records as soon as the arrived in England. Another amazing blues song they do is Tea For One. Robert Plant is the harmonica player. Watching all your reactions, I don’t believe Led Zeppelin disappointed you at all. Another great song is No Quarter. I've been listening to this album since it came out. I was 3 years old. Mother played it to put me to sleep. Through my stoner teens, and still with me now. I know every little sound by heart. Still moved by it every time. Made a "Hey Siri, break out the Led," shortcut. I love that you're enjoying it too
Just think of how inivative and completely world shattering this wouldve been in 1968! Some of the sounds they get in this mix havent been used as well anywhere else ever. Pages guitar sound, feel, and the ear to produce this, and just the way you almost have a reverse delay in front of Plant's vocals is so bitchin! They dont make em like this. There was so much soul in those recording booths it must've been hard to breathe!

I, IV, V - 12 bar blues. timeless. LOL, pulled up to a stop light yesterday and the car full of high school kids next to me were rocking out to this recording. I looked at them, they looked at me (I’m 65) and we just laughed. Then the light turned green and we went our separate ways. (And yes, THEY HAD MASKS ON! Awesome.)
My dear friend to answer a couple of your questions. First off this song was originally written by African-American composer and singer by the name of Willie Dixon born in Mississippi and raised with the delta blues. Where later he went to Chicago and made a name of them self writing songs for Fats Domino Chubby Checker and James Brown to name a few. Led Zeppelin reversing the song and mr. Dixon was in fact compensated handsomely.
FYI...Dixon was credited as the writer from the get-go. Same for "I Can't Quit You Baby". I have 2 copies of this album, first editions. Willie Dixon's name is imprinted right on the label. Always has been.

It is so great to see an African-American young lady appreciate the other side of music. I asked a co-worker who is Black if she liked Zeppelin. She immediately said no. Why? Because I am Black. I said that I was White and I really loved Mowtown. I informed her that every great guitarist from England, including the Beatles, all said they received their influences from Black entertainers from the South. This song was originally recorded by Muddy Waters in 1962. Willie Dixon wrote the song and recorded it in 1970. Etta James recorded it. We wouldn’t have blues, and Jazz if it were not for Black musicians. Again, it was great to watch your reaction. I am 68 years young, part of the Woodstock Generation, I personally saw Zeppelin in person 7 times. By the way, I have also seen Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Intruders, the Spinners, Teddy Pendergast, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Earth, Wind, and Fire, George Benson, and many more. Back in the day we had different genres of music to pick from. One year Frank Sinatra, the Doors, and Marvin Gaye had number one records on the music charts. In one year. Pretty amazing, this doesn’t happen any more. I forgot to tell you that I saw the Love Unlimited Orchestra conducted by Barry White. What a fabulous show that was. I think that I was the only white girl there screaming for this very overweight gentleman singing and swooning us in the most sensual way. Amazing. Black people have to give us a chance, Our musicians are fabulous, so are our singers. I love R&B but I can’t stand rap or hip-hop. J-Z could never sing like Smokey Robinson. Motown lifted up Black women, put them on pedestals, appreciated their beauty and worth. Just yesterday at a red light, this guy next to me had a pretty incredible sound system, it even made my car shake. The lyrics of this song were so vile and vulgar, not to mention, very disrespectful. Tell me, do you know any woman that likes being referred to as bitches and ho’s? I don’t. They have to bring back sexy.

This album was released 51 freaking years ago and they were just kids! It’s unbelievable that people in their early 20’s were capable of such great everlasting music. Some of the greatest bands came out of England and all of them were influenced by American blues artists!

Zeppelin - a major part of my high school soundtrack in the early seventies, whether it was on records, 8-tracks, cassettes or the radio - Zeppelin was everywhere. Never be another music era like the seventies.

It's hard to believe this album was recorded in 1968 and released in early 1969. This is just awesome. I'm amazed that this band is still worn by today's teenagers and these recordings are as old as some of their grandparents. There used to be a lot of engineers involved in the recording process back in the day. Your reactions are so refreshing because I've heard these songs practically a majority of my life and having your generation get into them. Good music is just good music and timeless. They actually used tape delay on the guitar to get that effect. You'd probably laugh looking at that. It was a self contained tape cartridge that would record live but the playback head in it was closely spaced and the spacing between the record head and playback head of the delay would depend on the speed of the tape and that's basically your delay on the guitar. I was 15 yrs old 1980 me,and these two black guys went over to a co workers quadplex of one of the guys I was with.I didn't know them Two white guys one of the guys wife,and a baby.Were just kicking it blazed a few js listening to 95.5 klos around midnight bam You shook me starts playing the guy removes a towel covering the stereo he cranks it super loud it was a cheap looking stereo at a glance,but OMG that song on that stereo shook the paint off the walls!!!!! Awesome reaction Scribe.. The guitar was a Fender Telecaster none as The Dragon Telly. The same guitar in the Dazed and confused reaction. Last year Page and Fender were putting out limited edition signatures of it to the market.

These guys loved the blues, & were listening to it as young teens, out buying the records as soon as the arrived in England. Another amazing blues song they do is Tea For One. Robert Plant is the harmonica player. Watching all your reactions, I don’t believe Led Zeppelin disappointed you at all. Another great song is No Quarter. I know I’m years late, but I love your reactions, love when someone loves my favorite band of 50 years. They are the GODS of music.
I've been listening to this album since it came out. I was 3 years old. Mother played it to put me to sleep. Through my stoner teens, and still with me now. I know every little sound by heart. Still moved by it every time. Made a "Hey Siri, break out the Led," shortcut. I love that you're enjoying it too
When I dropped the needle on song #1 Good Times, Bad Times I was forever a fan of Led Zeppelin.
Just think of how inivative and completely world shattering this wouldve been in 1968! Some of the sounds they get in this mix havent been used as well anywhere else ever. Pages guitar sound, feel, and the ear to produce this, and just the way you almost have a reverse delay in front of Plant's vocals is so bitchin! They dont make em like this. There was so much soul in those recording booths it must've been hard to breathe!

My dear friend to answer a couple of your questions.
First off this song was originally written by African-American composer and singer by the name of Willie Dixon born in Mississippi and raised with the delta blues. Where later he went to Chicago and made a name of them self writing songs for Fats Domino Chubby Checker and James Brown to name a few. Led Zeppelin reversing the song and mr. Dixon was in fact compensated handsomely.

FYI...Dixon was credited as the writer from the get-go. Same for "I Can't Quit You Baby".
I have 2 copies of this album, first editions. Willie Dixon's name is imprinted right on the label. Always has been.

Businesses have (to my regret) quite successfully tried to make 'Black Friday' a thing recently, but there's no family meals involving turkeys to go with it. We do, however, have our own holiday celebrations, and the winter months have some way to make people pull together in their own particular ways wherever you go...

One of the sweetest yet powerful guitar solos ive ever heard.
I'm having haggis; a Scottish dish accompanied with neeps an' tatties (mashed turnip and potatoes). Meanwhile, John Paul Jones (bass and on the organ) Robert Plant on harmonica and of course vocals. Mr Bonham and Page killing it as usual!
It is so great to see an African-American young lady appreciate the other side of music.
I asked a co-worker who is Black if she liked Zeppelin. She immediately said no. Why? Because I am Black. I said that I was White and I really loved Mowtown. I informed her that every great guitarist from England, including the Beatles, all said they received their influences from Black entertainers from the South. This song was originally recorded by Muddy Waters in 1962.
Willie Dixon wrote the song and recorded it in 1970.
Etta James recorded it.
We wouldn’t have blues, and Jazz if it were not for Black musicians.
Again, it was great to watch your reaction. I am 68 years young, part of the Woodstock Generation, I personally saw Zeppelin in person 7 times.
By the way, I have also seen Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Intruders, the Spinners, Teddy Pendergast, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Earth, Wind, and Fire, George Benson, and many more. Back in the day we had different genres of music to pick from. One year Frank Sinatra, the Doors, and Marvin Gaye had number one records on the music charts.
In one year. Pretty amazing, this doesn’t happen any more.
I forgot to tell you that I saw the Love Unlimited Orchestra conducted by Barry White. What a fabulous show that was. I think that I was the only white girl there screaming for this very overweight gentleman singing and swooning us in the most sensual way.

Just yesterday at a red light, this guy next to me had a pretty incredible sound system, it even made my car shake. The lyrics of this song were so vile and vulgar, not to mention, very disrespectful. Tell me, do you know any woman that likes being referred to as bitches and ho’s? I don’t.

This album was released 51 freaking years ago and they were just kids! It’s unbelievable that people in their early 20’s were capable of such great everlasting music. Some of the greatest bands came out of England and all of them were influenced by American blues artists!

This was the first song I heard by Led Zeppelin back when this album was realeased.This is still one of my favorites by them.

Zeppelin - a major part of my high school soundtrack in the early seventies, whether it was on records, 8-tracks, cassettes or the radio - Zeppelin was everywhere. Never be another music era like the seventies.

It's hard to believe this album was recorded in 1968 and released in early 1969. This is just awesome. I'm amazed that this band is still worn by today's teenagers and these recordings are as old as some of their grandparents. There used to be a lot of engineers involved in the recording process back in the day. Your reactions are so refreshing because I've heard these songs practically a majority of my life and having your generation get into them. Good music is just good music and timeless. They actually used tape delay on the guitar to get that effect. You'd probably laugh looking at that. It was a self contained tape cartridge that would record live but the playback head in it was closely spaced and the spacing between the record head and playback head of the delay would depend on the speed of the tape and that's basically your delay on the guitar. Thank you for your reactions again.

Jimmy Page used a Fender Telecaster and a Supro amp for this album plus an echo-plex, a portable tape echo device. Nothing else sounded like it!
Page used a Gibson flying v on this song he borrowed it from a friend also he used a tonebender fuzz on all the songs.
Syd Barrett used the same set up.

I was 15 yrs old 1980 me,and these two black guys went over to a co workers quadplex of one of the guys I was with.I didn't know them Two white guys one of the guys wife,and a baby.Were just kicking it blazed a few js listening to 95.5 klos around midnight bam You shook me starts playing the guy removes a towel covering the stereo he cranks it super loud it was a cheap looking stereo at a glance,but OMG that song on that stereo shook the paint off the walls!!!!! I don't think anyone ever made a song like that,that's why there known as the mighty Led Zeppelin!There neighbors sure heard it,Lol.I heard the song many times before,but not like that my 15 yr old brain was blown in Fontana cal.foothill Blvd. Best reaction ever you really have a great ear nice singing too!
