I give you an double AA plus. You're a fabulous teacher, I searched on how to knit the florets clusters, came upon your podcast, and I'm glad I did. Thank you for explaining how it's done.🤩
WOW that is a lot simpler than I thought it was gonna be. I was terrified that assigned pooling was going to be this complicated thing and it's not. Delightful!
This shawl makes me so happy! I am glad I found the video, it was so informative and now I can get started on the Float and then the Calico, both with your beautiful yarns!
Just received my yarn to make this shawl, and thought I would check if there is an video about the floral cluster stitch......and up you popped. Lucky me. Yarn arrived this morning, and I swill start when I sit down to knit early this evening. I live in England and I had my yarn dyed to my specific colour choices by a lady who takes commissions.
excellent video! I've been on the edge with this knitting method, not sure if I want to try this, but after watching you and the finished products on your website, I definitely will give this a go. definitely the floret pattern. Thank you!!
I love Yarn Kandy in Little Rock, Arkansas and was blown away with your designs and how this works. I decided to search on UA-cam and found your excellent tutorial. 😀
I love this, I was so happy when I found your patterns because it's these kind of knits i day-dream about. Love how it looks like a lazy river with petals.
I downloaded your Going My Way pattern from Ravelry today. Being a visual learner, I do better with charts (when possible) and often get muddled trying to follow written instructions. Thank you for rescuing me with the tutorial! I'm going to use the floret in a "boomerang" shawl using a highly mottled and variegated yarn. It needs a little texture with all the stockinette stitch and these florets are perfect. P.S. I'm Airyknot over on Ravelry
Hi! I visited your shop during the yarn crawl this weekend and purchased two skeins of this yarn. I also purchased the Float pattern on ravelry. My question is, how many stitches would I cast on for a smaller Float shawl using only two skeins. Thank you!
This is so much fun. I do so admire your ideas and beautifully dyed yarn. I ordered the Vintage Rose color way and am making a boomerang small shawl/ scarf based on Susan Ashcroft’s pattern “Just Slip It.” I am working 2 rows of garter in the vintage rose and 2 rows of garter in another color in the pattern adding florets and sprout stitches. I notice that the florets look different when made on the wrong side vs the right side because I am working garter. Should I call this a “design element” or is there a way to make a WS floret when working garter.
Thanks for this tutorial. I’m eager to start Calico once my yarn arrives. I actually set an alarm so I wouldn’t miss your shop update. One question: I use the Knit Companion app on my iPad, and I would like to add the link to this video to the pattern notes. When I tried, it was told the owner has disabled running the video on other websites. I’m not trying to run it on a website, just within the pattern on Knit Companion.
Thank you for this very helpful tutorial, Dawn! I just came across your design yesterday and I’m very excited to try it. Your video is very helpful and clear to create the flower, I just have a question about flower stitch quantity… How do you anticipate how many stitches will be in the contrast color? Is this amount flexible depending on the length of contrast yarn? Is that practiced by swatching? Should I make sure I select a yarn that has a consistent length of sectioned contrast color through the full length of the skein in order to have uniform flowers throughout. It seems as though the yarn must be dyed for this pattern is order to achieve success, as so many hand dyed yarns have so much random variegating. Thank you! 🙏🌸
Yes, all of that is covered in the pattern, and yes, it does require a specific type of yarn dyed for use with this technique. Radom variegates are beautiful, but they would be better suited for a different style.
is this the aster stitch for eventide? All the directions seem the same, except Eventide pattern says nothing about turning the work over. AHH, I see it is different, but this explains the Aster stitch to me also...
Hi, thanks so much for the video! Wonder if you could add time stamps so it’s easier to reference the different actions involving the cluster stitches? I’m watching this video while knitting the calico shawl and it would be really helpful to get able to skip to specific parts of the video. Thank you again!
Hi, thanks for this nice Tutorial, I want to alk, about the "white stitches", how do you did that, maybe after knitting ?????? Sorry für my "school-english"!!! Greetings from Austria!🙋🏼♀️😁
How do you work the cluster stitch at the end of a row? I am on like row 6 of the pattern and I have about 3 more loops to make but no more stitches on the left needle to work - HALP LOL! I'm so excited to be working this pattern :)
What yarns could I use if I am allergic to wool? I can’t even touch anything with even a small percentage wool/merino. I love to knit though, so I have to get creative. Help! I want to make this so badly.
I'm working on this pattern right now. I'm having a repeated issue with one stitch coming loose in the center of the cluster. I'm being so careful to make sure I scoop up all the double wrapped stitches and I thought I was getting my needles through the group of stitches on the K,P,K,P,K section, but I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions?
Why turn your work? Couldn't you do it all from the same side? With a large project, turning the work isn't always ideal. Maybe I'm missing something? I guess I just need to swatch it and see... Thanks for the clever idea!
Ha! I love this! I can assure you that my fingernails were quite clean, but alas, that is life as a dyer. I do wear gloves, but dye does tend to find its way onto my hands anyway.

Thank you Dawn! I am loving knitting my float shawl and your yarn is just perfect - best thing to come out of knitting in a long time!
WOW that is a lot simpler than I thought it was gonna be. I was terrified that assigned pooling was going to be this complicated thing and it's not. Delightful!
certainly clarified the written pattern - I am doing the Calcico pattern hopefully without messing it up
I could listen and watch you all day, your voice is so soothing. Thanks for a great video.

It looks like a firewotk in the sky or any far away awesome galaxy 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you!
I love this, but the floret cluster is a bit hard to make with continental knitting! Must loosen my gauge!
Hi! I visited your shop during the yarn crawl this weekend and purchased two skeins of this yarn. I also purchased the Float pattern on ravelry. My question is, how many stitches would I cast on for a smaller Float shawl using only two skeins. Thank you!

Thank you Dawn, this is very helpful. Videos are a lot of work, so I hesitate to ask, but any other videoes for patterns would be welcomed. Mend?
I haven't made one for Mend, but there are lots of great tutorials for Linen Stitch that would be helpful.

Cute, clever, looks very funny to knit ans to wear😘

Hi, thanks for this nice Tutorial, I want to alk, about the "white stitches", how do you did that, maybe after knitting ?????? Sorry für my "school-english"!!! Greetings from Austria!🙋🏼♀️😁
Thank you for this very useful tutorial, it makes things crystal clear. It is a very pretty pattern. May I ask which yarn you have used?
How do you work the cluster stitch at the end of a row? I am on like row 6 of the pattern and I have about 3 more loops to make but no more stitches on the left needle to work - HALP LOL! I'm so excited to be working this pattern :)
Lisa, did you ever get any answer to your question? I am wondering the same thing😉
Divide into 2 mini clusters of 3 loops at the end of the row & 3 loops at the start of the next row ?
I’m starting Calico. Do I slip the first stitch as if to Purl with the yarn in back on both the right and wrong side?
When doing the float its says to get to 220 stiches then start the float is that correct or can we start before that
Question. Does the pooling for the cluster, work on any width of knitting?
Hi Dawn, does this technique also apply to the Aster stitch?
Aster is similar but simpler. The cluster stitches are worked in the same manner, but no flipping is required.
I have a 425 yard skein - any idea for patterns?
What yarns could I use if I am allergic to wool? I can’t even touch anything with even a small percentage wool/merino. I love to knit though, so I have to get creative. Help! I want to make this so badly.
Can you use them in afgains as well love video ❤️
You certainly can! Great idea.
Anxious to start…….waiting for my yarn…….interesting technique.
Any tutorials in continental knitting
What if your floret falls on the wrong side of a garter stitch piece
I'm working on this pattern right now. I'm having a repeated issue with one stitch coming loose in the center of the cluster. I also knit backwards on large works instead of flipping back and forth. It's a really handy skill to have!
Hi where can I get the pattern and yarn thanks
So pretty! Can’t wait to start mine!
Traducir al castellano, por favor, gracias
Very inerresting design. How can we prevent the formation of holes beside the flower clusters?
Well, you can't. But because it happens on each one, it becomes part of the pattern like a yarn over in lace.
Much too fast! Can Not follow you
Please clean your nails
Please clean your nails
Ha! I love this! I can assure you that my fingernails were quite clean, but alas, that is life as a dyer. I do wear gloves, but dye does tend to find its way onto my hands anyway.
