The rhythmic articulation between 1st and 2nd bars is definitely making a huge difference.
I'd say that ii to V(7) calls for Dorian, in that case Em being the 2nd degree of DMaj tonality and A7 the 5th degree. ii V I is a classic jazz chord progression.
When the progression is going from Em to A, this can literally be explained as D Major as a ii to V...for sure! But I think this confuses many who haven't studied modes. Therefore it's completely ok to think of Em as your minor i chord/tonic instead of a ii. I could have listed this on the "Why Dorian" part of the video, but chose not to for the sake of not intimidating aspiring bassists more than they already may be 😅Cheers!!
