I was trying to figure out how to fit a wrap in the frame and peel them off to make a template out of them

I never thought of using a tape to make create a perfect template on any surface.

Damn. With your skill video, you can even make a custom wrap bike.

exactly the kind of video i was looking for. have a non see thru ground keeper frame protector kit and wanted to cut out branding and paint that and use clear matte vinyl to change texture from gloss. was uncertain how to do this at first. now i know a path and can get a buddy to use vinyl cutter or use scissors as mentioned and use masking tape to cut out actual size of bike brand letters and do a little cut out from the frame protection. then paint a custom color before layering clear vinyl over with hopefully a matte look and to protect that layer and the frame more. frame protectors have been damaged in past tysm.

adding this idea, after peeling off the backing of the protectors, cut it in half lengthwise or more and reapply it to the frame protector you just peeled it off from. then there’s only a few lines of stickiness to apply as evenly as needed then only have to remove portions of backing bit by bit.

another one is using scotch tape to see thru the frame and using a fine marker/pen to trace the underlying frame lettering or graphics.

BRILLIANT!!!! I am reprotecting my Trek EX 7 Radioactive Red. If it chips it has a white undercoat and visually stands out.
I absolutely LOVE your Template Idea as I am on a tricky part of the frame on the rear triangle and after an Hour of fruitless work, decided to look for Ideas and BAM...... Here we are.
My wife has a cricket vinyl cutter and after doing this I will scan them but I am able to do it on my Apple in keynotes. On the Mac, when you open Keynote and make a new project at the top it shows shape when you click on that it will show different shapes but......... In the upper right corner of that window that opened there is a little pen that you can click dots all around your shape and bend the lines whichever way you want and all of this is free.
Again brilliant job and thanks for making my life easier, lol! My next project is covering my wife's new track rail five E2, WooHoo..

Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I’ve been using low tack transfer paper as an alternative to the painters tape.

Does anybody already have a template for the Stumpjumper EVO?

Great job and great video, I love me a good bezier curve. What do you recommend to clean the frame with before applying the skin?
Wish I'd seen it earlier, my bike is too far gone to worry about adding a frameskin. Now is that radiuses or radii? 😜Just kidding, I think both are fine.

Haha radiusesesess ya got me. I found just using Handy Andy all purpose works great. I thought mine was too far gone but the little vinyl deets and the protection (and a good clean hahaha) gave it a new life! Thanks for the awesome comment, means alot.

@@juliangoulding 🤣 I've made the mistake of using a frame polish before that stopped anything from sticking to the bike 🤦‍♂️
Oh, and a handy tip would be to scan something you can measure to ensure the scale is spot on.
The formula to get the right scaling percentage is to divide the size you want by the size you have, times 100. So say your final dimension is 100mm and your scan is 96mm than the equation is (100÷96)100 = 104.166% 🤓

how did you go about making sure the size is correct? just physically measure the template then transfer it into illustrator?

    • @juliangoulding
      @juliangoulding  2 роки тому +2

Yeah exactly that. That's why I scanned it in on an a4 sheet of paper. You can use a ruler on the scan, that normally works well.
