I like these On The Fly's. It's fun to see an inside look at the Horizon product development, and just have a great time with you guys. Keep 'em coming!
You guys killed it love my V-1200 people can talk about the speed all day but your 140 is absolutely accurate got mine to 157 out of a slight dive and 165 with a dive awesome plane guys keep it up👊
Thanks. Yep. We learned from the Havoc. It looks like some people are not happy with the top speed we can achieve being printed on the box or in marketing blurb. So all testing now is done whilst flying level through a speed gun/ trap. Luckily. No one watches the On the Fly series :) So we can get away with having fun and pushing limits ( as long as its as safe as possible ) for now !
Man I love when Ali and Pete get together...and start with a disclaimer...Lol!! The thing that amazes me is how fast you can get it starting all your dives from 399 ft....not a foot higher...
Love Love Love my V1200! Been flying it's little brother for over a year and dig that model as well but sure is nice not to have to hand launch the 1200. Just cut a couple APC 12X12 electric props down to 10". Need to get some 100c 6S packs, a watt meter and that on board ASI and 200mph here I come! ;)
Question: At 5:45 when Ali says "It died, we lost aileron"... "it started rolling in, that ladies and gentleman is the limit of the V1200" what does that mean? Some sort of aerodynamic anomoly at that speed (201mph)?
We believe the dive induced an oscillation on the wings causing a loss of control on the roll axis on that particular pass. He was referencing the structural and aerodynamic limits of the airframe.
It's made out of EPO foam and it's designed for high speed.I got the V900 and it's new in the box.I looks real cool.I hope it can do F3A pattern flying because that's what I do.
Ali, you put in some amazing work my bro. Love all your vids, your entire team at Horizon just rocks. Question though, when is the new V201 being released????? Wallets ready LOL.... great flying guys.
Out standing shipmate. press on. If its not to much truble would you mind making a video of how to set up the v1200 on a Spektrum ix20. i just crashed mine on maiden and don`t know why.
Was this with 8S? I'm questioning because it would be impossible to reach 200 mp/h with 6S at 160 Ampere, at least when flying horizontal (that's what laws of physics say)!
A guy at my field made that propeller and let me fly it first. I had that thing at around 300ft and put her in a dive then slowly pulling up to make a pass on the field. That thing was definitely pushing 200mph or over! He is getting a radar soon so we can know for sure.
Love to know what happened to the v 1200 after the 200 mph pass, was it a temporary problem due to the speed or did it actually break something on the plane ?
It loosened a carbon spar in the wing ( or two ) Cyno was applied and the plane flew there after and achieved a many well over 140 mph passes. It lives on in the hangar today. I think I might save it and add it to the OTF memorabilia collection....
@@stevesutherland6328 I am all good thanks. I have a pair of high end all composite F5D and F5B models that will go faster. They are designed for high speed and Hig G's. I will stick with those. crazy to think that for quadruple the price of what a V1200 costs. I get another 25-30 mph! The V201 far exceeded my expectations. I think to make it go any faster, it will require a lot of time, money and effort thrown at it... and that's the opposite of what OTF is about.
Thanks Ali, i love the videos, you guys remind of two little kids always trying to push there toys to the limits, keep it up!, looking forward to the next videos !!
That would be a poor decision in my opinion. There are far More appropriate planes to have as your first plane than the V1200. Look at getting a model called the Apprentice. Your chances of successfully learning to fly are far greater with a model like that.
As the video showed. My landings were far from perfect and this particular plane must have in triple digit flights thus far. Same gear and same legs. They have been bent straight a few times. I would rather that than break gear mounts out of the wings.
I would be more focused on stopping the wing from twisting. Good luck with that as I am pretty sure there is no where left for carbon to be put ( there is so much in the wing straight out of the box ) maybe glassing the wing might help? Or better still. Keep the speeds to something sensible :)
Ali Machinchy I’m mating three large carbon spars, much like I did my V900 twin which has close to 100 flights now, no issues. After cutting wing panels, I took the carbon square rods out of the wings, this V1200 wing is def built tough!! I’m sandwiching spars between the aft two spars and middle main spar, plus a long one as far forward as possible to leading edge. Problem is trying to find an APC 10x8e clockwise rotation prop!
Mine crashed on maiden take off torque rolled and crashed so I pulled avian speed control out And motor and put it in eflite extra 300 boy did I make a monster!!!
Prop was perfectly balanced. It s the prop hub that wobbles at lower rpms ( it had some trauma in its life ) Fine at anything above 1/2 throttle. Servos are fine. I had servo control. It’s the wing twisting at the higher speeds and then fluttering which caused the drama.
This video is full of baloney, the speed control will cut out with a bigger prop. I ran 8cell and 200 amp speed control and got 196mph. That was after stripping the airframe running stronger servos and making the hinges stronger. This is a fake news’
Which 200 amp esc did you use? And I agree with you, because I used the 10x12 prop and my esc started tripping,so I sent the plane back and got another one.Do you know what motor I can upgrade to,to make it faster? Or is the one in the plane good enough?
@@discosean21 the Motor will not burn up with 8cells. I ran 200 amp speed control 8cell 12/12 prop and it did 196mph all day long. The wires and batteries got hot but the motor was fine. Be careful with the gauge of wire. I melted the solder and had a hard time disconnected the battery. If you watch my channel the movie RC life I have some 196mph passes in it. Cheers good luck
@@Skyangel270 okay thanks,I have the 10x12 prop and the esc broke when I flew it. I just got a 150amp esc,so I’ll see how that goes.next I’ll get a 12x12 prop and us an 8s battery.Where did u get the 12x12 prop from?
201 Mph is already too fast for this airframe! As we showed in the video. The plane and the equipment within was never designed. developed or tested for these speeds. I thought that we would be doing well to get 175 mph, so I am more that happy with 201Mph. But I know any faster will cost me an airframe and I hate breaking good models so I will hang it up at 201.
I just got one. Totally disappointed. The stickers are coming off, the ESC was dislodged. And do the retracts make a terrible hum when retracted for a few seconds?????? Not impressed a all
100 amp telemetry ESC & 800kv 5065 motor. That alone is almost 200$ which means add in your servo's, receiver, and foam plane for 169$. I'm not sure how that is priced to high.

What size of prop is the 201 mph? 10x12 or 12x12?
10x12
It's a shame the wheels are so weak I haven't done a hard landing and I've still bent the wheels just a tad so one retract doesn't close properly

At those speeds the wing starts to twist. Ailerons still work, but not enough to overpower the roll caused by the twist at those speeds.
