    Duration will be about 2.5 hours. Can I run a video without running out of disc space? Maybe multiple single shots would be better? Probably should turn on raw too.

      Have a 512 GB SD card time-lapse C1 to C2 and recording video of totality without solar filter replace filter before the end of totality after the diamond rings or beads. Then time-lapse C3 to C4 and keep time-lapse going for a extra 5 minutes after the eclipse. Filming done combine all clips in a video editor like Lumafusion for android or IOS. Congratulations!

      An external sd card? Or is there an internal one?@@StringrPress

      It will do Timelapse a picture every 10 seconds and then you stitch them together

    • @StringrPress
      @StringrPress 7 місяців тому

      @QINDynastyDrones I'm using a 4 seconds interval for the partial phases. A 4 second interval will produce a approximately 32-second time-lapse video of partial phases. Recording totality regular Video is a must. With regular Video it can be spread up in post or just use as t totality video. Time-lapsing totality is very difficult. A two second totality video is not a good thing. Always edit your Totality video in post. Framing is important too.

    I'm going to be in Kerrville, Texas for the eclipse with my SeeStar and have been experimenting and wondering how people are planning to acquire data. Some have talked about time lapse mode or video with RAW data that can be stacked. I was considering if I should switch from solar mode to lunar mode during totality. You mentioned switching to scenery mode during totality. What is your thinking? I guess because there will be much less light. Is is your understanding that solar or lunar modes are not really best for totality?

    • @TheAstroRoom
      @TheAstroRoom  7 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for watching Craig : ) No one really knows what will be the best mode for this since it will be the first time capturing an eclipse with the Seestar for all of us. I suggested scenery mode as a potential safe bet. But I must say that the new firmware update that was just released now has a manual exposure feature in Solar mode and I think this may have been done in time for the eclipse. We should all try to experiment and test that feature out. I haven't had the chance just yet. Perhaps adjusting the exposure manually on that new mode could help when in totality to bring out the corona.

    Thank you for the video. I plan to use the Seestar with the solar filter at least during the partial phases. But for totality, after removing the filter, is it reality a good idea to switch to scenery mode? Tracking will certainly be lost, and focus might change. Wouldn’t it be safer, considering that removing the filter already threatens the tracking, to just stay in solar mode and crank up the gain? Then, just before totalitt ends, the filter goes back on and the gain can be shifted back up? As you mentioned, this if the Seestar’s first run at a total eclipse, so it’s all experiment. But, going by the general rule that as little should be fuddled with during totality as possible, might switching to scenery mode during it risk too many things going wrong?

    • @anvikshiki
      @anvikshiki 8 місяців тому

      I meant, after totality, the gain goes back down.

    • @TheAstroRoom
      @TheAstroRoom  8 місяців тому +1

      What you said makes sense! I think there will still be some that will be trying out scenery mode but yes, it's easy to lose tracking that way. It may not be worth the risk. Let's see how this turns out! Your method is a safe good idea. Thanks for watching!

    I am considering using a piece of solar filter film that I just tape to the SeeStar rather than using the provided solar filter. I think that can be removed and replaced with much less disruption to the tracking. Haven’t tried it yet tho.

    I will be in Fredericksburg, Texas for the event. I am fortunate to have relatives that own some there and it there will be many family members there. Even my sis is keeping the kids outta school to witness this after I explained to her the significance it will be. I will be using my SeeStar and appreciate your video!

    What is the best way to shoot the entire Solar Eclipse with the Seestar S50 Video or Time Lapse I assume in RAW? Or just take a picture every 10 minutes but record the full totality in Video RAW and add the sequence pics you shot of the movement of the Solar Eclipse to it? Maybe SWO like you said will have a feature for just recording Solar Eclipse for the SeestarS50 to really enjoy this wonderful event hassle free.

    • @TheAstroRoom
      @TheAstroRoom  7 місяців тому +1

      Time lapse or a raw video will be ok. I honestly think the New update where you can manually change the solar settings will really help for the eclipse. I haven’t had a chance to try it though. I believe you can just play with the exposure setting (brightness scale) to get the eclipse to show on your solar mode. I haven’t tested it yet though but I think that was the main reason for the new update

  • @AngelLugo

    to be honest I will put the filter during all the eclipse, and enjoy, from my point of view is possible that remove the filter will cause some issues, I prefer enjoy the moment ;) thanks for the video!

    I’d say to have everyone practice putting on the solar filter and tracking the sun the for a few minutes 2-3 days before the eclipse. Don’t stumble in the darkness. Have a flashlight. Lastly practice downloading your solar eclipse pictures and videos in case you want to process them or save them for your grandchildren

    Will it be possible to see the Pons/Brooks Comet during the Eclipse? Jupiter Mercury going to be in that area also I believe! Very exciting! Will be at the Texas Star Party 2024 event North of Waco, praying for clear skies!!

    • @TheAstroRoom
      @TheAstroRoom  7 місяців тому

      NASA has said that the comet will definitely be in the skies and astronomers will study it and take pics. However, I'm not quite sure how visible it will be to the naked eye. The sky guide app shows it will be at a 4.7 magnitude on the moment of totality, which may not be bad! Enjoy the TX star party!

    Can Seestar S50 track the launch of a SpaceX falcoln 9 or the Starship?

    • @TheAstroRoom
      @TheAstroRoom  7 місяців тому

      What a great question! I’m not sure how good it would do but as a test: I would use Object Track in Scenery Mode. This would be a good experiment! But I’m thinking the Seestar might have limitations with that one. But who knows! The Seestar has surprised me since day 1!

    Solar Viewer Glasses Only Good for 3 Minutes Total Viewing Time ????

    • @TheAstroRoom
      @TheAstroRoom  8 місяців тому +1

      Solar Eclipse Glasses can be used at any time you want to look directly at the Sun (make sure they are ISO 12312-2 certified). The only time you can look directly at the Sun without them is when the eclipse is in totality. The video describes an app that will do voice call outs to help you determine when to use the special glasses during the eclipse and when its safe to take them off. I have a link in the description that has Eclipse Safety guidelines.

      Instrusturctions on glasses say - only good for 3 minutes total time viewing the sun // Then what, protection diminishes ???

    • @TheAstroRoom
      @TheAstroRoom  8 місяців тому +1

      Some glasses/viewers are printed with warnings stating that you shouldn't look through them for more than 3 minutes at a time. Those warnings are outdated and do not apply to eclipse viewers compliant with the new ISO 12312-2 standard. The glasses in the link in the description are compliant with new safety guidelines but we would have to contact the seller on amazon so they can confirm that it is ok to use for more than 3 mins, since it should be fine. I've used them with no issues.@@hopecottrill3916
